Grade as in are they the best league in the world ?

I will not rate them as the best because of the high technical play of the Spanish league. But when it comes to grade of players, you find the best players in the EPL on like Spain where the crust of quality lie in Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He was training with the EPL team and he is one hundred percent a product of the system.

He is not an Epl player

He never had a taste of the Epl

It's just like telling me Nicholas bentdner is from Denmark league when we all know he left their academy to Arsenal academy

But if those eibar and co always win those Epl team when they meet in the Europa league apart from the big boys

You would have said in terms of finance

How was Tyrone against Serbia? Wasn't he poor? See his rating below.

You can't use one match to nail a player.

Did you say Aina hasn't given any impressive performance in the GWG?

What do you say about this rating by ESPN? Is 7 not impressive enough?

Nigeria Vs Libya

SUBS

DF Ola Aina 7

This looks to be a day of slow starts.

Introduced within the opening 20 minutes, he looked tentative and gave the ball away a few times, but grew into the game.

Such was his confidence in the second half, that he he stripped Mohamad Abdussalam right inside his own box with a strong tackle just before the half-time whistle.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/nigeria/story/3668599/nigeria-player-ratings-vs-libya
Aina has 4 in this rating. POORER than Ebuehi

the thing is how many players were gotten from previously poor u20 squads?

the 2001 squad you cited obodo is the only reasonable player who went on to do something tangible in the super eagles.

contrast that with fanny amun's "fumble and womble" 1995 squad how many do you remember doing anything impactful with the senior national team?

i can concede that these current squad of u20s are not total right offs but if more than 2 players from this current set go on to be future stalwarts of the super eagles i'll be very surprised

Icon4s:

Believe it or leave it. Some of those Flying Eagles players will still graduate to the Super Eagles. Foreign born or Nigerian born.

Like I said before, there is no Flying Eagles set that has not produced players for the national team.

People have been tagging Aigbogun's Flying Eagles as the worst. I see them as people who are either miopic, mischievous, sentimental or a two young to have followed the Flying Eagles from decade to decade.

Do you know that JJ Okocha and Tijani Babangida's set of 1993 Flying Eagles did not even qualify out of their AYC Group? I don't even want to mention the 87 Flying Eagles that got whipped by Brazil 4:0, Italy 2:0 and played 2:2 with Canada. That team which is the worst Nigerian team to any FIFA tournament had likes of Siasia, Etim Esin, Okosieme, Odiaka, Ugbade, Willie Opara all of who progressed to play for the Super Eagles.
The 1997 Flying Eagles could not even qualify for the AYC as they lost on away goals rule to Sudan. That team had a certain Gbenga Okunowo who later played as a RB in Barcelona FC.
What of the 2001 Flying Eagles that had Batholomew Ogbeche, Christian Obodo and Justice Christopher? They could not qualify from the 2001 AYC Group. They even lost 4:1 to Ghana in their last group game. I can go on and on.
Every Flying Eagles set has always produced SE players. So please don't be so quick to write the 2019 Flying Eagles off.

I guess you're right about this.

Look at the coaches of club sides that made top 6 this season. Nome of them are English coaches. Even for previous seasons. Except for Ferguson, no other English coach commands my respect (southgate is getting there sha).

They are overhyped by the media. My verdict on Rodgers will wait till the end of next season because when a new coach is just hired, they tend to do well in the first few matches, good or not.

Icon4s. It isn't about just graduating to the Senior team. Its about playing excellently when they get there. Besides, you're quoting from ancient history. Times have changed and with the kind of coach we have in Rohr, 90% of those guys may not make the SE.

It is not about ancient history. Osimhen, Chukwueze and Nwakali's set didn't even qualify for the AYC have they not made the SE?

BTW if 90% don't make it that means10% of the 23 man squad will make it which means 2 or 3 players that's ok. After all how many of the Iheanacho's 2015 U20 are in the SE today? The AYC/WYC is every 2yrs so if we pick 2-4 top players from each set we are good.

I am not expecting up 50% of them to make the Super Eagles.

So What of Okocha and Tijani Babangida of the 93 Flying Eagles that performed woefully

Nduka Ugbade and Samson Siasia were part of that shambolic 87 Flying Eagles. Etim Esin too who could have been a great player but for his indiscipline.

Football is a very funny game. We dey watch.

The way peeps have been saying it as if the team is a total write off.

We are often too quick to forget or we fail to realize that only very few players progress from youth to senior teams. If 2-3 players from this 2019 Flying Eagles make it across we move on. 2 years time again we select another few and move on.

that particular team had talented players kanu, taribo west. i remember watching their games as a child they played good football plus they were unlucky to be drawn in a tough group with ghana and cameroon who funny enough were the eventual finalists

i don't think sia1 went to the world cup then. yes different squads will produce one or two players but obviously talented ones tend to produce more

Actually not come to mind immediately.

I have too admit not many but those who have are top notch. Eriksen at Tottenham, Schiemechel at Leicester currently. Can't think of any more.

And in reality they did not come direct from the Danish league so in actual fact I can think of NONE.
Daniel Agger from Brondby to Liverpool
Peter Schiemel also from Brondby to man utd

Thanks for reminding me of Taribo. He was also part of the 93 Flying Eagles. Kanu didn't make the AYC team as he was dropped due to small physique then. He then joined the Golden Eaglets.

Yes we later discovered we were drawn in a tough group because as at then Cameroon had never qualfied for any Youth Competition (U17 or U20). So Ghana was the only rated team aside Nigeria in that group. But Cameroon shocked us 1:0 in our opening game.

Fast forward to 2019 i Know that if Nigeria should crash out in an AYC Group that has Ghana and Cameroon we will tag them the worst team ever no matter how they play. Because the only thing that can passify us are goals and victory.

And as for Siasia, he missed the 1983 WYC because he was preparing for WAEC. He then featured in 85 and 87. Then it was U21.

i'm not one of those thou must win proponents when it comes to age grade teams. if we lose but show promise in terms of game play and talent of players paraded i will be content. that is one reason why i wont be harsh on amunike or manu garba even though they didn't excel too much with the u20s because they for the most part paraded genuine talented youngsters who have time to improve

Kanu Nwankwo did not make the 1993 AYC team. He was dropped from the final squad and was redeployed to the Golden Eaglets.

Rodgers is an average coach what else do you expect from him ?

Pep Guardiola:
"Before Leicester were a counter-attacking team, now with Brendan Rodgers they have another way to play, they can control all parts of the game so I think Brendan has showed his incredible quality as a manager.

"In two months, his team is already playing the way he wants to play. Of course with incredible quality, with so fast players, honestly I've been really impressed."

In a short stint with Leicester City, Rodgers was able to prove his identity and show he is not your everyday average manager.
