You must be very lucky. Most times, your device will not skip an update for you, so if you skip 3 updates, you'll need to download the 3 of them before you get to the latest updates.
It's actually been long I used the official miui ROM but what I remember from using it is that the updater app rarely even skip an update unless that update is discontinued so before you even see the next update automatically, you'll have to install the current one

Author should relax and skip unimportant updates. Although attention should be paid to security updates, they may very well save a life

I never said the relevance of the OS, the bone of contention is that of the author devices not to flash an unimportant update, there's a high chance that the only way for him to flash the most recent update is to do it manually

your bootloader is locked. You'll need to open the phone and use testpoint method, you also need someone with authorized account for testpoint flashing. If you are lucky and mi account is bound to the device, use mi unlock tool to unlock bootloader it should unlock, if not edl/testpoint route with china fastboot rom is the only solution
