This is an interesting topic.

I am seeking a masters in business analytics. But I am wondering what state I should go to study. I want to quit my bank Job in Nigeria and resume in September or so.

But ppl tell me my priority should be to get my papers.

Huh...Are you sure about that?

I was under the belief that most Americans live in the cities because of the availability of more jobs and higher wages.

That's why I said I've always felt ... that's my opinion after living here for almost 20 years both in small towns and big cities. the average american isn't motivated by money to move from their small comfortable hometown. places like nyc and san francisco are obviously exceptions but in chicago you would likely run into more people native to that area than transplants

Agreed. I've always felt like Americans that live in expensive cities do so mainly because of family ties. Why will I come from Nigeria and go to where is expensive? but to each their own sha...

You are right though, cant imagine myself living in California, New York or even Chicago.. A friend told me he pays $2000 + for his apartment in California, shocked..

Really,

Interestingly there are a large populations of Nigerians in these areas. A friend once said the same thing until he got an offer in Northern California and left his house in Atlanta for the job. He later said he was just wasting his time there.

Central California is better when it comes to cost of housing compared to it's Northern and Southern neighbors but then I don't consider those things as very important as they are covered with the pay. Minimum wage in Atlanta is 7.25 while in San Francisco is 15. That means at the minimum level the person in San Francisco earns more than twice the person in Atlanta

Yes, but the cost of living in San Francisco is twice that of Atlanta.

Beautyaddy rightly said it all.. The cost of living in California cant be compared to that of Atlanta.. February of this year i turned down an ofer to move to the bay area, it was $40k more but if you factor in the cost of living and all it boils down to the same amount for Atlanta..

Na so most of una dey Chicago dey hide abi? Well, me i dey look for new friends ooo if una dey Chicago, kindly PM me and lets meet.

OP, i will advice not to rush into making decisions. I have had people saying go into IT or nursing and i'll be making cool money but my interest never lies in IT.

As for the nursing, they have crazy schedules that can really really be stressful..

I studied Engineering and I have a passion for Engineering and i am starting classes at Darley College(76th and Pulaski) this fall.

Kindly please consider your options clearly and dont rush into making decisions.

I need your opinion about this: I have this extended family member in USA, the man is above 70y of age. Has a wife. He run a church in the united state. He also has a home in New York, already a citizen. Between he’s a very close person to my father. But I haven’t discussed it with my father or him. I need your opinion if it’s possible for him to help to migrate to US. And what’s the best possible way he can help. If he’s going to help.

Haba there are many Nigerians doing well in a Chicago.

One advantage of Chicago to me is it’s one of the the most balanced/diverse economy in the US so for married couples with different fields it’s gives them both options compared to say NY which is heavily Financial services or the west coast which is technology heavy.

And the immediate past mayor actually did a good job attracting more companies to Chicago, yeah it is more competitve than smaller cities but less competitive than the likes of NY.

abike12:

my first advice would be to leave chicago. Nigerians there are not up to much as far as legal life. I literally don't know one Nigerian in chicago that's up to much. If you are open to relocation I would suggest atlanta, houston, dallas, places with upwardly mobile black people and Nigerians, low cost of living, nice houses in the 200s, and lots of opportunity. IT is definitely having it's moment now and you don't have to spend much on education to get your foot in the door. I like that it's flexible, allowing you to work from home and have other side gigs. If it sounds like something you're interested in I can ask around for how to get started. I'm assuming you're a permanent resident...

The cold in Chicago can change someone's surname shocked. I was in Chicago around January mehn It was terrible. The snow made the roads looked so dirty, the wind and cold was just too much for me to handle. The town looked like a mess.

Hahaha yeah it gets really cold but this year's winter was colder than normal especially the vortex that pushed temperatures to -46.

The dirty snowy roads happens everywhere it snows, east coast US, Canada etc. It's part and parcel of snow, it looks nice and white then turns dirty and mushy till it melts off.

I love Chicago, great city with it's flaws.
