Kaduna Assembly Passes Bill To Grant Pastors, Imams License Before Preaching by ExAngel007(f): 6:31am On Jun 08, 2019 |
The Religious Preaching Regulation law, 1984 before the Kaduna State House of Assembly seeking substitution was on Friday passed into law The passage of the bill came three years after the bill faced serious criticism from different religious bodies and individuals. The bill, which purpose is to regulate religious preaching in Kaduna State with a view of promoting religious harmony and peaceful co- existence amongst the residents of the state was brought to the House since 2016. Presiding over the plenary, the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali while reading the bill close by close said a state inter-faith Regulatory council has been established with a chairman to be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Secretary to the state. Also, two members representing the Christian and Muslim faith, respectively, to be appointed by the Governor, among others. According to the Speaker, the bill further has it that the above mentioned council shall hear and determine appeals brought before it arising from the decision of the local government inter-faith Committee and also has power to issue regulations considered necessary to guide the state inter-faith council and local government inter-faith committee in the performance of their functions under the bill if signed into law. He further mentioned that the bill when signed into law, stipulates that in each of the 23 local Government areas of the state, a committee to be known as the Local Government Inter-faith Committee has to be established According to him, the local Government Inter-faith committee shall consider and recommend to state Inter-faith Regulation Council all applications for the grant of licence to religious preachers as well as screen and recommend preachers for the grant of license among other functions. The supplementary provision explained that all cassettes, compact disks (CDs), flash drives or any other communication gadgets containing religious recordings from accredited preachers may be played inside a private dwelling unit or vehicle, entrance porch (zaure), Church, Mosque and any other designated place of worship. It further stated that any person who plays religious cassette or uses a loud speaker for religious purposes between the hours of 11pm to 4am in a public place, and uses a loudspeaker for religious purposes other than inside Church or Mosque commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years or pay a fine of less than N200,000.00 or both. The bill added that any person who publicly insults or seeks to incite contempt any religion, by making false statements in such a manner as to be likely to lead to a breach of peace, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than five years a fine of not less than N100,000.00 or both https://dailypost.ng/2019/06/07/breaking-kaduna-assembly-passes-bill-grant-pastors-imam-license-preaching/ |

As a born again Christian who is meant to speak the truth at all times, i commend governor El-rufai for this bold move. Christianity especially needs serious regulations from authorities nationwide. In every street of the federation especially in the south, there are minimum of 5 churches per street yet our ways and morals are steadily declining. We are a bunch of religious bigot but UnGodly people. Many fake pastors are springing up daily giving fake prophecies and commercializing the gospel of our lord Jesus. The principles of true Christianity has been bastardized by the money conscious hawks parading as pastors. All they preach is money and prosperity, the teaching of love, tolerance and soul winning has been abandoned for commercial Christianity, Yet we wonder why our society is morally bankrupt. We Christians are not tolerant of other religion. We forget Nigeria is a secular state and the Nigerian constitution allows for freedom of worship. Any seperate beliefs from ours is considered evil and our intolerance is likely to spring up religious crisis if not checked by the government. Our extremist views are the reasons why a pastor will just wake up and set fire on a traditional worshippers shrine because he considers the shrine as Evil yet we hypocritically condemn such if a church is attacked by non Christians. What happens to the concept of live and let live? Why can't we Christians mind our business for Christ sake? Why do we threaten any one with a contrary view and belief with Hell fire and destruction? An Ogun, IFA, Sango or other forms of traditional worship is automatically hated and labeled Evil spirit by we Christians yet we pretend to preach love and tolerance. The bible admonishes us to love our neighbors as ourselves but all we do is pray for the destruction of contrary views and beliefs shouting Fire fire fire up and down. What is the definition of religious extremist? Look in the mirror my fellow Christian brothers. We are a selfish bunch who doesn't care about the convenience and health of our neighbors as long as we worship in noise pollution. How do you explain blaring loud speakers in the middle of the night in the name of night vigil when others are sleeping after a long day's work? Must everybody be a Christian? Why can't we look inward and be considerate for Christ sake and stop the massive noise pollution associated with our mode of worship in this part of the world? Why do we portray God as a deaf and dumb who must be shouted at before our prayers are answered? Can't we worship and pray in minimal noise or perhaps silence? We Christians need a massive reorientation to restore sanity because our present ways and values is not Christ like. I hope the Federal government and other states emulate kaduna state government and pass laws to regulate religious rascality in churches and mosques. Enough is enough |
