The research, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology , found that those who attended religious services at least once a week as children or teens were 18 percent more likely to report being happier in their twenties than those who never attended services.



If that isn’t enough of a benefit to wrangle your kids into church clothes on a Sunday morning, the researchers also found that kids who went to church were 33 percent less likely to use drugs in their twenties, were less likely to have sex at an earlier age, and less likely to have a sexually transmitted infection. In addition, people who prayed and meditated daily either at church or on their own reported greater life satisfaction, were better able to process emotions, and were more forgiving.



Researchers were even able to connect church attendance with lower likelihood of smoking and an increased likelihood of voting! Taking your kids to church doesn’t just benefit them, either. It can have positive benefits for the community at large, as almost 30 percent of kids raised in church were more likely to do volunteer work . If you just can’t get yourself to drag your kids to church—or just aren’t in the mood for a fight on a Sunday morning—they may still be able to reap some benefits if they take some time to pray or meditate on their own.



According to the study, people who prayed or meditated on their own schedule had lower risks of substance abuse and depression later in their lives. The next time you’re trying to get your kids to church on Sunday, go ahead and cite this article—and then maybe bribe them with a trip to get brunch after services. Propanganda to steer up unncessary controversy, in a country like USA where social amenities are provided,jobs are plenty, education is A+, human rights exist , and people can feed ,you attribute the happiness of a child to the church??, what about Nigeria ,one of the most religious nations on earth? how come we are a population of 200 million where 44% are between the ages of 14 -30 and we aren't declared the happiest nation on earth?? What a load of crap.

Some even claim the church is our moral compass, but my country has more church branches than all the educational institutions combined ( primary to university level) and yet IMMORALITY is at a all time high!! Who are we actually disceiving.

Taking responsibility, facing and accepting the realities of adulthood is the number one cause of unhappiness amongst grown ups. The coverage their parents offer that made them cruise life without any sense of responsibility has been outlived. Believing in God in such case is soothing, its a re-establishment of the idea that someone, somewhere cares for you, and make sure you are fine. And this, makes people happy.

Who does not know. But atheists will deny anything deniable. My atheist lecturer at the university told us how he was allowing his wife take his kids to church and then it will get to a point when he will takeover from there. In me I thought why wait until a certain time. Why not start telling them even as kids that there is not a God?

No, that's not true.
They are too judgemental and and so aggressive cos of bottled up emotions when growing up. Because they can't express themselves around their parents or adults due to some biblical teachings, u see such manifesting in their adult lives in various ways.

I once was in attendance at pastor enenche's sermon one day when he was judging and condemning a small girl of 8 yrs who after seeing her mother's beautiful 'gele' while conversing with her friend in their sitting room told her mother she looked beautiful.
That was her sin. Acknowledging her mother's beautiful make up. This man summarised what the little girl will be till she die.
I at that time believed this man( we worship them, remember)
But my mind was very troubled. I began to question such teachings. Where u make children hush hush around you.
That's how they boldly don't ask you about sex and we normally see the result. Maids feast on them and they hardly tell especially the boys. Boys are worst cos they Grow with twisted mindset about women. If we should conduct a poll here on how many boys were used as intimacy gadgets by their "aunties" it will reach a staggering 75%.

There is some truth in this. However, what you see as happiness is actually a facade. Church and religion as a whole promotes pretense. Growing into adults, humans perfect this pretense even if they are dying inside.

I grew up to believe that being unhappy about one's state is a lack of appreciation for and faith in God. We should always be happy and in all things give glory to God. I believed it all.

Those who aren't very religious are much more sincere with themselves are are more likely to be seen as sad, than the religious who mask the emptiness, disappointment and frustration with smiles and songs.
