Buhari's Government Is Driving Nigeria Towards Disaster & Instability — Obasanjo by Correctgist(f): 6:47pm On Jun 11, 2019 |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the President Buhari-led government is driving Nigeria towards “disaster and instability”. Obasanjo said this in an exclusive interview with Premium Times at his Ibogun Olaogun ancestral home in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, last month. The former president fell apart with Buhari ahead of the 2019 general elections and endorsed the president’s closest rival and his estranged vice president, Atiku Abubakar. Speaking during the interview, Obasanjo noted that although the country has made considerable progress since the new dispensation began in 1999, the pace at which it is currently moving shows the nation may be inching towards disaster and instability. “I think we have no choice but to be on the path for sustainable development. The progress we are making may be questionable Is it fast enough? Is it steady enough? Is it stable enough? Are we taking two steps forward and one step back or one step side-way? You can question that, but we have no choice but to be on (the) path for sustainable development. Any other thing will be a disaster. In fact, the pace at which we are going now is tending more and more toward disaster and instability and unsustainability. No Confidence in the Economy’ The former president argued that there is no confidence in the Nigerian economy today. Rather, he said, the gains recorded in the past have been frittered away over the years. Speaking on what went wrong, the former president explained that Nigeria has failed to do what is right to instill confidence in domestic and foreign investors. The ripple effect of the nation’s indecision, he said, manifests in the state of the economy. Nigeria slipped into recession in 2016 after several contractions in the economy, amidst an unstable naira and rising inflation rates. By the second quarter of 2017, the nation slipped out of recession. Although the government claims that the nation has been put on the path of sustainable growth, unemployment figures have also ballooned within the period. Baba, please behave like true elder statesman, this same message you came out publicly to say, can maturedly be passed across through the appropriate channels instead of trying to instigate matters that is capable of heating up the polity... Anyway, as for me and every well meaning Nigerians we shall not witness any disaster nor instability ... 29 Likes 4 Shares |

Oladelepsy001: Absolutely. Something is wrong with Obasanjo. Can he not find a single positive thing to say about this government? Is he blind to the infrastructural strides being achieved in roads and rail, and even airports? What about the various welfare/poverty alleviation programs and micro credit schemes? The agricultural revolution? I haven't heard him say a single thing about those developments. He just wants us all to focus on the negative. Why? 60 Likes 8 Shares |

my brother you 're absolutely correct. Obasanjo is more interested in bringing buhari government down. we in the south east can attest to infrastructural developments expecially in area of roads unlike past regimes including obasanjo government. 50 Likes 5 Shares |

What's most painful is the government is doing opposite of what it oughta do No new infrastructure but discouraging foreign investors Low life expectancy rate, highest rate of insecurity EVER Even the corruption they said they're fighting is a total hogwash. Pure witchhunting No new jobs but massive sacks. Now I hear ministry of Education wants to kick out ALL teachers without TRCN. So a Bsc holder without job that's managing teaching will be sacked cos he/she has no NCE, B.ed or PGDE. So even if you are a first class graduate with Bsc u are not qualified to teach Primary school but minimum requirement to rule the entire Nigeria is SSCE. All they do is invent new ideas that will kill the common man 16 Likes |

Am getting 2 hate this man day to day. Is he the only past living president in Nigeria? Atleast we still have the likes of Gowon, Babagida, Shonekan & Abdulsalami, so what is Obasanjo's problem about Buhari? Can we call this jealous? Obasanjo brought us to wia we are today, the democracy corruption we experiencing today began with him. Is beta this old man go sit down 4 one corner before he die of high BP. Meanwhile, congratulation to our new elected senate president, deputy senate president & speaker of the house of Rep. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Town crier. Obasanjo I feel your pain. You have become so irrelevant nobody even care about your existence again in Nigeria. All you can do to become relevant again is to launch attack against Buhari. We know Buhari is a disaster but what right have you to say that? Tell Nigerians where you hid the 20billion dollars you claim you spent on power? Where is the product? Baba, go and sleep or start from your ward to local government to senatorial district to state level and keep gaining some relevance again. May be in the next 20 years you will have won back the relevance you have by thine own selfish hand thrown into the deep blue sea. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

But you guys knew he was a dullard yet still campaigned for him while ganging up against Jona. As soon as interests refused to realign you start talking about how inexperienced he is on economic matters. Trust Me, if Buhari use two oil block slap obj, he will start singing like a cannery.
