Northeastern: Let's be more tentative; Does a move to allow the forces of demand and supply to determine fx market rate amount to a free floating process? ...YES. Is the CBN looking to align with this process? ...YES. The signs are already there. decelerating liquidity stance in the fixed income space and downward rate environment to attract inflow. Again, given the present fragile nature of the economy and 'everything surrounding it', it has less of a choice to allow for the convergence of the rates window sooner, rather than later !! Will this have any impact on the markets. ...YES. Depending on the market space/asset class in question, it could either be positive or negative(I already highlighted this earlier) While no one can tell when exactly that would be, or the degree of impact it would bring, the key is to gradually position ahead of the 'feast'. That said, I agree with u on the need for cautious optimism. Which was why I said that the move in isolation is not enough. It has to be supplemented by some other key decision-making and there has to be some palliative measures in place to curb any possible side effect, including inflationary ones. However, the move is a positive for the equity market space as it means a little more reduction in risk premium for the foreign participants(clarity in capital flow) and general liquidity boost from redirected initially housed fixed income excesses. ...but even then, one has to ensure they permute from amongst the right pick of coys. If u are an "old bird" in the system, u would agree that OPPORTUNITY beckons !! Nigeria is simply a portfolio country and once u can spot a great 'gap in the medium' to bet against/tap from it, DO IT !! As investors, this should be our sole concern. Salah |

stcool: If naira is floated and you are able to get $ @ 360 and let say it floated around #600 am sure you would be happy you have made a bigger kill! But when you change the $ to naira @ 600. Will you spend the money in another economy? Remember there will be serious inflation so in the long run nothing change unless you are spending your change naira in another economy and not in Nigeria |

aremso: It is not about patriotism, it is being pragmatic and proactive. If you keep all your assets in naira, you get poorer every time the naira is devalued. Having a strong currency is not by wishful thinking, as long as we are not doing what is necessary to have a strong naira the naira will continue to weaken either we like it or not. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

aremso: stcool:Remembered crude oil price drop as low as 27 per a barrel, with Nigeria supply of crude oil to international market reduced to half, due to pipe line bombing. This led to reduction of inflow of dollars to Nigeria, remember that crude oil are sold in dollar. Nigeria supply of crude oil per day has increase above 1.5 million unlike when it reduces to about 800 thousand, which ushered Nigeria into recession. Naira was sold as high as #500 + , the major things being crude oil Nigeria export reduces in quantities, while the importation didn't reduce as such, the importers travel to other country like China with dollar to import goods, this lead to reduction of dollars, the level of dollars that moved out was higher than the one coming in, which lead to higher demand of dollar. The purchasing power of Nigerian was reduced, because then many state government find it so difficult to pay their workers, like Osun, Zamfara, Ekiti state etc. Even to Carry on with capital project. The amount of money in circulation reduced, companies share was affected. If the quantity of crude oil Nigeria supply to the international market remains high, with crude oil price at 60 dollar and above. Am not seen dollar moving up to #500 soon, even if it moves up to that and one happen to sell his Zenith at #20 to buy dollar at #360 and keep, and later exchanges it back at #600. That mean by them Zenith will be selling at #100 with Nigeria naira been worthless. As naira increases price of commodity will equally increase, including share price. I remembered when 1 liter of kerosene was sold for 30 kobo, and highest denomination them was #20. The 50 kobo note and #1 note then has high value, compared with #5, #10, and #20 note of today. So therefore as naira move up to #500 against I Dollar, other commodity will move up, the amount of gain companies makes will also move up in figure. 3 Likes 1 Share

Mpeace: Be like say Speculators wan cause panick ..wan naira to 520 again Emeifele has been boasting part of his achievement in bringing to naira from 520 to 360 and taking naija out of recession Will it take it back to 520 ?? |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by pluto09(m): 3:23pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
lancee: Emeifele did nothing to bring Nigeria out of recession. We came out of recession because oil price recovered. If oil price goes lower again, the naira will be devalued and we might get into recession again. |
