June 12 isn't complete unless d mandate is served. If recognising that an election was won, then those that won d election must b allowed to assume power. Kingibe is still alive. Buhari should step down 4 him so he can actualise d June 12 mandate

Was it Buhari that stole the mandate?

If you are looking for hypocrites come to nairaland. When GEJ named Unilag after this same Abiola some years back, the same people praising Buhari now condemned him then.

Yes, it doesn't change the fact that Buhari will remain your president till 2023.

History will be kind to PMB; the president who finally healed the June 12 would. Obasanjo would be agonizing shamelessly in pain wherever he is today. The senate in 2003 passed a resolution naming the Abuja stadium after MKO but Obasanjo refused to implement the resolution.

Jonathan also had the opportunity of implementing that resolution but he opted to play to the gallery by naming University of Lagos after MKO thereby reducing him to a Yoruba hero despite the fact that he payed the ultimate price for Nigeria’s democracy.

You may call it anything bro but when supposedly "good people" don't do what is right and needful, "evil" men will do it and take credit.

The pogrom your Ojukwu, Ezeogwu, Ironsi etc caused by killing northern and Yoruba leaders and elders in the first ever coup in the history of Nigeria.

What is this one saying?

the tens of thousands that were killed participated in the coup?

You no get sense

Pogrom was BEFORE the war.

assuming that the igbo soldiers killed the leaders
an eye for an eye is justifiable
kill the igbo officers as well

But not only were igbo officers killed, a pogrom followed forcing igbos to flee IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY

Economic emasculation of the igbo man followed after the civil war as well and you think all these were justified?

Nigeria is a country filled with evil people

So I am not surprised someone is thinking like this

Medicine after death. The man won and should have been president, not some stadium we can hardly maintain. Buhari's mentor abacha incarcerated him, killed his wife and many of his supporters.

Congratulations to Nigeria and to the yorubas in particular. From a nutral Nigerian from the land of the raising sun. S/E really have a lot to learn politically.

we should have more political awareness in the South East

that is for sure

With how much stake we as Igbos have in Nigeria

we should have much more influence politically and as a lobby group than we currently have.

But let the country first take steps to heal the wounds of the war first

I posed that question to the person that asked Buhari to step down for Kingibe.

Buhari's government is legitimate. It cannot step down for Kingibe to reclaim a stolen mandate. However, it has done the right thing by legitimizing the victory of 1993.

Why Obasanjo doesn't want to believe a name called Abiola exist. Buhari loves Yorubas and he's handling power to them.
Life is so funny at playback. It was M.K.O Abiola that sponsored the coup that removed Buhari as a Military Head of State.
This great move would go down into history for generations yet to come.Buhari has his own short coming in administration and everybody does in our private lives.
What made it so exciting is that most of the National Leaders from Ogun State of the late Abiola( Obasanjo,Diya,Shonekan) does not want
President Buhari to give him this national recognition.
If you envy a Man while alive, most you keep such attitude even in death.I was just 7yrs.old when the June 12 incident came up,but I heard the late Abiola was a core Philanthropist.
At the inception of Lautech in 1990,M.K.O was appointed as the first Chancellor of the great University and he single handedly paid the first six Months Salaries of the new Staff despite him not coming from Oyo State.
The evil and good that Men does lives after them. If only all African leaders would be more concerned about leaving big legacies behind like the late Nelson Mandela,Africa would become the envy of the World.

I'm not talking of renaming stadium or whatever

But remembering all those who were killed unjustly is a good step
like a memorial day

like the one in Rwanda

Those innocent women and children did not deserve to die in such manner

And igbo people did not deserve the economic emasculation of the 1970s

I think that is long overdue too.

June 12 should be our democracy day tho, because of obvious reasons.

The most sensible comment I ever read on nairaland today. You deserve an OON . Government should look at civil war and remedy some remediable damages done by Gowon and his boys. I am full blooded AFONJA.

LoL, see how we have turned ourselves to. Someone built a stadium and another renamed it, who did well? If there was no structure there will be noting to rename. However, governance is a continuum and we must all agree that both leaders have done well in this regard.

Justice at last! Recognition eventually.

If you are pained by this development, it means you never loved democracy neither do you respect the Yoruba people.

That will put food on your table
