Should this be too much to do nwa teacher? You teach sss 3 maths, kudos! grin. I have produced countless students that have gone on to massacre exams in further mathematics and mathematics with 90%+ of them scoring A1 even though that is not my own subject. In my subject, I have never produced a B2 in an external examination. You can take that to the bank.

You are correct, but your diagram will confuse other people. Your 3d is just like 2D. You should indicate that C, A and D are on the same plane (Horizontal ground) buy carving out the 90• angle symbol.

Who ever set this question should be called to come and draw the diagram that best interpret what he meant. I am not a mathematician, and will never brags, insult or argue with anyone on this. I passed all my Engineering Mathematics undergraduate courses with flying colours, and to me ooo, this diagram best interpret the question only for the angle of elevation which is not placed at the right observation point (D)

It isn't merely one point that is due East of another(read the question again). It is the tower that is due east of point C, ie on the right side of C. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D is 35 degrees. I have pointed out that little mistake in d diagram. I"l post another one to show the correction. From the perspective of the diagram, points C and D as well as the tower itself are all on the same horizontal ground.

Notice the correction: the angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D (not point C in the previous diagrams) is 35 degrees

This is not possible bro because the tower is due North of point D and as such cannot be 35 degrees. When one point is due north of another, it has ot be straight up and cannot make an angle of 35 degrees.

This is not possible bro because the tower is due North of point D and as such cannot be 35 degrees. When one point is due north of another, it has ot be straight up and cannot make an angle of 35 degrees.
The tower is north of point D, ie directly in front of D. It is not the whole tower that is at an angle of elevation of 35 degrees from point D. It is the top of the tower(point B) that is at an angle of elevation from D. You seem smart at Maths and should be able to understand the difference with ease
The only mistake you are making is that you did not think about the fact that the top of the tower was the initial reference point. I have attached some diagrams on the first page. Check them out

I was trying to correct a wrong idea u had: the tower is north of D, meaning directly in front of D. But its not the whole tower that is at an angle of elevation of 35degrees from D. Its just the top of the tower, ie point B. Its clearly detailed in the second diagram. You seem good at basic maths. You can see the difference

SOLUTION

Question says;
C and D are observational posts on the same horizontal ground at the foot A of a vertical tower AB. The tower is 18m due North of D and 24m due East of C

Question should be
C and D are observational posts on the same horizontal ground AS the foot A of a vertical tower AB. The tower is 18m due North of D and 24m due East of C
After correcting the grammar, this is how it should be solved.

STEP 1

Mark a dotted point as the point D and trace it up to another dotted point. The second dotted point represents the tower. This should be a straight line. why? Because the question says the tower is 18m due North of D. So, label the line as 18m


STEP 2

From that second dotted point which represents the tower, draw another straight, dotted lines to the left and put a dot at the end to represent C. Label it as 24m. Why? The question says that, the tower is 24m due East of C


STEP 3
From the question , we know that points C and D are on the same horizontal ground. So, draw a straight line to join points C and D


STEP 4
Draw a straight line to join the line /CD/ from our initially dotted point that represents the tower. THAT STRAIGHT LINE YOU HAVE JUST DRAWN IS THE TOWER AB


STEP 5

We know from the question that the foot of the tower is A and the top is B. So, label the bottom that is now on the same line as /CD/ as A and label the top as B. You will then observe that the diagram is in line with the question as C,A and D are all on the same line.

I will attach the necessary pictures when I get on a phone I can snap with or when I can sketch. I am on the laptop now.

Note that in the diagram, a straight line was drawn fom D to the tower point to show that the tower point is due north. The line is not the tower

If I tell you the number of students and maths teachers around the word that have failed this particular question you will not believe, when I presented the solution, the only way the comprehend is when it was in 3d dimension,
Students will not be ask to draw 3D, but only does that understand 3D formation of it can translate it towhat u did their.
Note my diagram is same as, @Razor017 diagram.

Most times, students are taught only two dimensional bearing problems, but three dimensional problems like the one in the post are completely ignored.
You are very correct, when I presented my solution a lot of maths teachers(not only Nigerians) and students in our forum was confused,

Now that the diagram has been drawn
MY RECOMMENDATION,
MATHS TEACHERS SHOULD HELP THEIR STUDENTS UNDERSTAND 3D CONCEPT.
a lot of students did not answer a question in the just concluded WASSCE mathematics examination and they tag it wrong question,
Asking questions like why why will angle at a point be more than 360°
Were as that is a plane not a point.
Thus they Skip the cheap geometry question
Attempt my other shapes.

It cannot be well illustrated on a white board for students. I may teach in a privileged school with all the necessary facilities like Interactive Flat Panels and necessary software to make an illustration. However, less than 5% of schools have this.

I did not look at your 35 degrees well before. I have seen it. The only problem we seem to have now is the 2D versus 3D approach. I wish you guys are close by.

If the students have done technical drawing, the will be able to easily understood the concept sir.
If the haven't they can still understand with a good 3D diagram in the blackboard and explanation,
