Rezos017:This is still wrong bro. What angle is supposed to be made by a point due East of another point? |

castro316:Were you not the one that started insults by asking for my maths grades? You just come online to talk anyhow without even knowing whom you are talking to. You produced a diagram that does not follow and I made a simple observation. Produce a simple diagram that has A,C and D on the same horizontal plane and satisfies the question. Should this be too much to do nwa teacher? You teach sss 3 maths, kudos! . I have produced countless students that have gone on to massacre exams in further mathematics and mathematics with 90%+ of them scoring A1 even though that is not my own subject. In my subject, I have never produced a B2 in an external examination. You can take that to the bank. |

castro316:You are correct, but your diagram will confuse other people. Your 3d is just like 2D. You should indicate that C, A and D are on the same plane (Horizontal ground) buy carving out the 90• angle symbol. Good work |

Rezos017:Bro, in your diagram, C,A,D are not on the same horizontal plane. |

naturalwaves: So why were you so quick to say my drawing when your aptitude reasoning is high. This is the statement my teachers used to punish me that year which I found out was very bad thing to say In an academyof "learning" |

Rezos017:Who ever set this question should be called to come and draw the diagram that best interpret what he meant. I am not a mathematician, and will never brags, insult or argue with anyone on this. I passed all my Engineering Mathematics undergraduate courses with flying colours, and to me ooo, this diagram best interpret the question only for the angle of elevation which is not placed at the right observation point (D) |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Rezos017: 2:19pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
naturalwaves:It isn't merely one point that is due East of another(read the question again). It is the tower that is due east of point C, ie on the right side of C. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D is 35 degrees. I have pointed out that little mistake in d diagram. I"l post another one to show the correction. From the perspective of the diagram, points C and D as well as the tower itself are all on the same horizontal ground. |

Notice the correction: the angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D (not point C in the previous diagrams) is 35 degrees 1 Like

Rezos017:Yes, I know Rezos017:Sure. Rezos017:This is not possible bro because the tower is due North of point D and as such cannot be 35 degrees. When one point is due north of another, it has ot be straight up and cannot make an angle of 35 degrees. Rezos017:The only mistake you are making is that you did not think about the fact that the top of the tower was the initial reference point. I have attached some diagrams on the first page. Check them out |

At natural waves: I was trying to correct a wrong idea u had: the tower is north of D, meaning directly in front of D. But its not the whole tower that is at an angle of elevation of 35degrees from D. Its just the top of the tower, ie point B. Its clearly detailed in the second diagram. You seem good at basic maths. You can see the difference |

Oh I miss the conversation you guys did a nice job |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 3:41pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Abeos:That is not the diagram because u draw it in two dimension Which is the reason why our students don't understand 3 dimension, |

Rezos017:U did the correct job, But u miss something you interchange the angle of elevation check |

naturalwaves:U did a great job, but a good 3D diagram will be better understood. |

Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by naturalwaves: 4:20pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Mrshape:Were the students expected to draw a 3D diagram for the straightforward sketch? Let me see the diagram you have. |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 4:29pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
naturalwaves:You call it straight forward because you already understood the ideal, If I tell you the number of students and maths teachers around the word that have failed this particular question you will not believe, when I presented the solution, the only way the comprehend is when it was in 3d dimension, Students will not be ask to draw 3D, but only does that understand 3D formation of it can translate it towhat u did their. Note my diagram is same as, @Razor017 diagram. |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 4:33pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Rezos017:You are very correct, when I presented my solution a lot of maths teachers(not only Nigerians) and students in our forum was confused, I have to draw the 3D perspective clear before they were able to comprehend |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 4:38pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Now that the diagram has been drawn MY RECOMMENDATION, MATHS TEACHERS SHOULD HELP THEIR STUDENTS UNDERSTAND 3D CONCEPT. a lot of students did not answer a question in the just concluded WASSCE mathematics examination and they tag it wrong question, Asking questions like why why will angle at a point be more than 360° Were as that is a plane not a point. Thus they Skip the cheap geometry question Attempt my other shapes. |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by naturalwaves: 4:50pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Mrshape:I see! Doing 3D imaging and teaching the concept is a bit advanced for that level considering the fact that 95%+ of secondary schools do not have the resources to teach such. It cannot be well illustrated on a white board for students. I may teach in a privileged school with all the necessary facilities like Interactive Flat Panels and necessary software to make an illustration. However, less than 5% of schools have this. If I get you right, do you mean to say that I gave the correct 2D analysis and imaging while you guys gave the 3D solution? |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by naturalwaves: 4:53pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Rezos017:I did not look at your 35 degrees well before. I have seen it. The only problem we seem to have now is the 2D versus 3D approach. I wish you guys are close by. |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 4:55pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
naturalwaves:Yes you and abeos gave the correct 2D representation, while Razor017 gave the correct 3D in his last diagram. |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Mrshape: 5:00pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
naturalwaves:If the students have done technical drawing, the will be able to easily understood the concept sir. If the haven't they can still understand with a good 3D diagram in the blackboard and explanation, Were resources limit most is teaching Longitude and Latitude without a globe, |

You guys should try my other shape question it is an SSS1 question |
Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by naturalwaves: 5:03pm On Jun 12, 2019 |
Mrshape:Okay. Abeos made a mistake in his labelling though. |
