Truth is he never read the content of that news only the headlines. Lazy youths. After they have been out of school for weeks due to strikes and co what else are they taking break from? Some of these kids on nairaland are irritating and unproductive. People like that boy make you cry for this country.

It's better he does a single term, makes an impact on the system and goes away, than spend two terms with nothing to show for it. Until politicians begin to work on leaving a lasting legacy and impact, instead of playing politics of re-election with the lives and well being of the citizenry we'd not make much progress. And you sir, need an urgent reorientation of thought.

To those that comment rubbish without reading, he only cancel the 3rd term break. They've had a lot of breaks this term coupled with the recent strike in the state.

He did not mention strikes but too much public holidays. Sincerely, this kids needs the regular breaks. Most schools in advance countries gives schools so many breaks during school terms with or without public holidays, just to keep the students refreshed most times. It actually helps a lot.

This is an amazing decision! This Governor knows what he's doing.

He understands nothing about education.We need to stop some of our religious holidays and introduce a complete week of break into our education system. We need to make our education system more fun. With all our seriousness & toughness, we still not inventing anything.

I can understand his reason.. I'm a corper in oyo state and my ppa is one of the public secondary schools and we've spent alot of days this term on strike or public holiday. It's just for this term and it's for the sake of the students.

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced the cancellation of Thursday and Friday mid-term break for public primary and secondary schools in the state.

The Governor hinged this decision on the fact that students of public schools in the state had stayed out of their classrooms for several days as a result of recent industrial actions and public holidays.


This announcement was contained in a circular with reference number, Edu1070/Col.VI/27, dated June 11, 2018, signed by the acting permanent secretary, state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Idowu Adeosun.

Adeosun pointed out that the directive did not affect private schools in the state.

Teachers and heads of schools were consequently to utilize the two days to make up for lost grounds in their lesson plan for the third term of the ongoing 2018/2019 session.

“I am to inform you that in view of the number of days the students of public primary and secondary schools have stayed out of classrooms for the reasons of public holidays and strike actions, the mid-term break for the third term of 2018/2019 academic session is hereby cancelled,” the circular read in part.

DAILY POST reports that the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) recently suspended a two-week old strike while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had also suspended a 24-hour long strike on May 27, 2019.
