So many educational institutions have changed names in Nigeria and heaven didn't fall. Unilag wouldn't have been different. By the way, I'm also an Alumnus of Unilag and any name change wouldn't affect my certificate. Jonathan did the right thing but hateful Yoruba people took to the streets in protest. There are other cases too. Jonathan removed subsidy and increased fuel price, hateful Yorubas took to the streets and occupied everywhere.
