I am creating this thread for some insight into this category of long term visa(6months) for job search. Please share your Experiences.

The job seeker visa for Germany is a Long-Term Residency Permit, which allows you to stay in the country for six (6) months and look for a job.
If at the end of the six (6) months you have found a place of employment, you will be given the Germany work visa or a Germany work permit and you will be allowed to work and live there.

Please note that having a job seeker visa does not allow you to start working immediately in Germany. It only means that you can visit the country and look for a job during your stay.

In order to obtain this visa, you need the following:

Be eligible to apply
Compile all the necessary documents
Fill out an application form and book your visa appointment

Eligibility of applicants
There are several criteria that you need to fulfill to be eligible to apply for the Germany job seeker visa. These are as follows:

a Bachelor of Master’s Degree from a German university or an equivalent foreign degree
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in your related field of study

Show proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay during the time you are in Germany

Have travel or medical insurance for your entire stay in Germany or until you get your Work Permit

• Any additional evidence of your preparations to secure a job that can already be provided.

• Prepaid courier envelope by any major courier service

Hello everyone, I've been following this German job seeker visa for a while. But I have certain questions that I've not found answers for.

As regards the proof of fund, I understand it's 720 euro per month and the visa is valid for 6 months. Now, say I want to be in Germany for just 2 months, that means I need 1440 euros in block account. Will they grant me visa on such arrangement? Or is it compulsory that I have 4320 in block account irrespective of whether I won't stay up to 6 months?

- Some questions they asked:
1. Why do you want to move to Germany? (Be honest... culture, stability, )
2. Where are you going to live? (share your address and proof of accommodation)
3. What companies are you planning to work for in Germany (Do a lot of research on your industry. Register on Xing.com, LinkedIn, mention companies in Germany you are interested in)
4. What will you do if you don't get a job in Germany? (Make sure you say you will come back to Nigeria)
5. Tell me about yourself? (share your educational and employment history)
6 Do you speak German (if you don't, demonstrate your plans to learn the language asap because it is very important)

Tip:
- Be confident
- Don't lie
- Have your facts and documents as proof
- Dress smart

If you want to be there for two months, maybe you should just apply for a Visiting visa. The Jobseeker visa is for 6 months only and from what I know, I don't think you can pay for a shorter period. But I am not too sure.

Just being curious about getting a job, is there a minimum of how much that must be earned to get the work permit? And is it similair to the UK tier 2 Visa in the terms of the companies limitations of employing people. While researching I saw one you get a work contract you can apply for the work permit but that was a post in 2016, is it still the same?

if you don't find a job within the 6months you will have to return to Nigeria, so u need to make adequate plans, but atleast one can find something doing even if it isn't that big then gradually you move up.

yes you can study and work, but that will be limited hours for students.

And you made mention of having someone in Germany i believe the person will be the best person to guide you and answer most of your questions so please try and have good communication with him/her.

Good Day everyone, I intend to move to Germany in search of greener pastures, with the hope that an uncle of my will be getting a job when I get there and I will enroll in a part time school.... But he told me to get visa done by myself ND flight to come over that he has no idea how has been in Germany for more than 25yrs
and he can't send me invitation for now. Basically now I don't know where to start from.? What type of visa am I to get? How much is the visa ND how long will it take me please some should help m confused?

Booking an appointment was hard for me. You have to check every day and book as soon as you see an available slot. Some of the guys outside the consulate may be able to help.

As soon as you book an appointment, get all your documents ready before the day. I booked an appointement 2 months in advance.

After I had the interview and submitted my documents on the same day, it took them 5 days to get back to me. They asked me to get another medical insurance because AIICO wasn't accepted (then I went to Fintiba). After that, it took another 5 days to get my passport back.

You need to have the complete amount in your blocked account before the appointment date if not they won't approve your visa. That is your proof that you will have enough to survive while you are in Germany.

Engineering is in demand in Germany. This website shows that there are more than 1,700 openings at the moment: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/jobs/job-listings/
You have to check each job description to see if they require German language proficiency. You can start applying for jobs from Nigeria as some companies help with relocation (if they really like you). I will also recommend starting German classes in Naija before you travel. It's cheaper and it will help you integrate better and get many more job interview invitations. B1 German proficiency and above is usually required for most jobs.

Yea this is very long, i haven't called the embassy, in India it is also difficult in getting appointment depending on your region, i was to get it there but felt i should come home and relax with family and do it with ease only to get to nigeria and see that waiting period.

I was told that I would hear back from them in within 4-8 weeks but I heard back from them in a week, so you never know. If you are in Lagos, I would also recommend asking the protocol officers outside the German Consulate for guidance. Nothing to lose at this point.

I got my visa in 2018 and have traveled already. My background is in IT. I don't know your background but I believe if you can prove that there is a requirement for your skillset in Germany, then you should be fine.
