seguntijan: Abiola actually sponsored the coup detat that dethroned and imprisoned Buhari and Idiagbon (as his deputy) and ethroned Ibrahim Gbadamosi (later change to Badamosi as an Hausa) Babangida. U really need to forgive and partially forget d sins of your helpless enemies... Now I understood why Obasanjo has been very crazy with Buary going ahead to recognised MkO Abiola because same Abiola Sacrificed was first benefited by Obasanjo who choose to never recognised or HONOUR such sacrifice. It is because of MKO sudden death that allowed Obasanjo to be choosing as PDP PRESIDENTIAL Candidate and was allowed to win d election with a very strong influenced from d members of numerous groups known as G-18 and G-34. “Is Obasanjo the messiah now? He is not the messiah we are looking up to. As far as I am concerned, Obasanjo has become a spent force. He wants to be recognised as the one directing the affairs of the nation at every stage from the time he was military Head of State, civilian president, through the late President Umaru Yar’Adua time to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s period. He has the feeling that he knows it all. “We should be careful about Obasanjo. I have my reservations about him. Yoruba must come together but not behind Obasanjo. Obasanjo can’t lead us. I can’t recognise any invitation from Obasanjo. “The honour that was conferred on Abiola by President Buhari should have been done by Obasanjo. He didn’t do it. We thank President Buhari or doing this. We should support him and not Obasanjo’s agenda. Obasanjo should go into retirement. He only wants to be seen and heard.''
HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY!!! Obasanjo is more valuable to the Yoruba people than Buhari. Don’t ever make the mistake of believing that Buhari has the interest of Yoruba people at heart. |

franchasng: Not really. Igbo peoples' anger against Yorubas didn't start today, it started between 1966 - 1969 when Ojukwu and Awolowo had an unofficial agreement that as Ojukwu declares Biafra freedom, Awolowo will declare Odudua freedom so that there won't be any need for north to drag or fight so that Nigeria will peacefully divide in 1966/67.
Ojukwu and other Eastern officers believed and trusted Awolowo because Awolowo always stood for Yoruba interest and always against Nnamdi Azikiwe and Akintola and co who preferred Nigeria remaining one, so they believed Awolowo will declare Odudua republic and make the division of Nigeria easy and peaceful without war.
This was the reason Ojukwu facilitated the release of Awolowo from jail at Enugu where Tafawa Belewa/Azikiwe jailed Awolowo for treason, and Ojukwu gave him special escort back to Western region.
But Awolowo got to Lagos and Gowon offered him mouth watering political appointment as Finance Minister, Awolowo reneged on the unofficial agreement he had with Ojukwu.
So when Ojukwu declared Biafra as an independent state amidst a widespread pogrom against Igbos living in Northern Nigeria, Gowon first didn't want to go after Biafra until British government told Gowon not to accept it, so Gowon declared Police action to return Biafra back to Nigeria and that was how he mobilized Nigeria military to invade Biafra and return them back to Nigeria and the war broke out after several negotiations at Aburi Ghana failed.
And when the war started, Biafra was gaining ground, almost winning the war before British government and Egypt stept in with massive military support for Nigeria, and Nigeria also sold Bakasi oil rich land to acquire military weapons to defeat young Biafra which was proving difficult for Nigerian army, until Awolowo again suggested a harsh hunger policy to Gowon, which involved changing Nigeria's currency so it will be difficult for Biafra government to import food and drugs for her citizens as the war intensified and this led to mass hunger and malnutrition in Biafra land, causing Biafra soldiers to start turning to saboteurs leaking secrets to Nigerian soldiers just to get food to eat.
This torn Biafra apart and Biafra government officials and commanders started persuading Ojukwu to surrender to avoid further hunger and deaths of Biafrans, at the end, Ojukwu was forced to board a flight to go on exile in Ivory Coast while his vice from today Akwa-Ibom, Philip Effiong surrendered Biafra to Nigeria, and the war ended.
So Igbos saw Awolowo as a great betrayal that betrayed Biafra and Ndigbo, that was the beginning of the distrust Wow 6 Likes |

Abiola won in my state (and overwhelmingly in my community and LGA). Presidential election result in oyo state in 1993 between the 2 parties: 641,799 vs presidential election results total of apc and pdp in oyo state 2019: 731,919. Difference of just 90000+ ....................................
Compare to Kano presidential result of 1993 total of the 2 parties: 324,428 vs 2019 presidential results total between apc pdp: 1,856,361. Gigantic difference of hmmm hmmmm.... Sorry I need some water. Difference 1,531,933.....................................................
Can someone please explain what cause this skewness of data. In 1993 ondo state had more than 1 million voters but in 2019 provided less than 600000 votes. Comparing the 2 presidential results a lot of questions surface that will surely leads to a lot of theories here and there. 2 Likes |

Realdeals: In an excerpt of the National address by the then Military head of state General Ibrahim Babangida annulling the June 12 1993 Presidential election. IBB, despite acknowledging the election to be free and fair, still went ahead to annul it, read the excerpt below… ”It is true that the presidential election was generally seen to be free, fair and peaceful. However, there was in fact a huge array of electoral malpractice virtually in all states of the federation before the actual voting began. About 2.1 billion naira was spent by both presidential candidates. We have authenticated reports of electoral malpractice against party agents, NEC officials and the electorate, who were manipulated through offer and acceptance of money and other forms of inducements The conduct of the election, the behavior of the candidates and post-election responses continued to elicit signals which the nation can only ignore at its peril… To proclaim and swear in a president who has encouraged a campaign of divide and rule amongst our various ethnic groups would have been detrimental to the survival of the third republic.” General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida former Head of State, Federal Republic of Nigeria Excerpt from his national address on the annulment of the June 12 presidential election, 26 June 1993

But Babangida bleeped up all the same .....and the annulment of that election marked the end of monetary inducements in our elections thereafter?
