In about 4-yrs our GDP will be 150B dollars and our budget 60B.In 10yrs our GDP will touch 300B dollars and our budget around where South Africa is..100B dollars.And there is nothing that can bring it down because it's on autopilot cruising.The beauty of having non commodity broad based well diversified non mineral economy and in investing in people (already Africa best human capital), infrastructure and social services.

Very true.In Kenya you don't have to import technical stuff.kenya-Indians or Black or Blue Kenyan can get all local talent they need.The Kenya-Indians only have few Indians relatives handling finance...but in Nigeria, Dangote and every manufacturer ships equipments with shiploads of Indians.Now easily 1M in Nigeria.In Kenya you just ship equipment with drawings and you have enough local talent to fix it. What is the point of owning the factory when all key staff from general manager to technician are foreigners. Only the capital owners like Dangote benefits from all the Abuja protectionist policies. The rest of Nigerians unfortunate not to escape the zoo are getting poorer and poorer as Dangotes gets richer and richer running essentially Indian shops.Those 1m Indians don't have roots and repatriate their earnings..Kenya-India are like your Lebanese...5th generation investing like any citizen.

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has won a Sh5.2 billion tender to drill geothermal wells in Ethiopia, marking the second win in the landlocked country in under four months.

Business development director at KenGen Moses Wekesa said it has reached an agreement with an independent power producer (IPP), Tulu Moye Geothermal Operations Plc, located in the eastern region of Ethiopia, to drill wells and offer geo-scientific survey.

“We bid and the first bidder fell off. We were the second best evaluated bidder. The IPP has now engaged us in discussion. We have negotiated and settled,” said engineer Wekesa during the recent energy debate convened by QLand Energy Communications Consultancy.

“We will be providing geo-scientific survey and drilling eight geothermal wells. One geothermal well costs about Sh650 million.”

This will be the second such tender for KenGen in the horn country after it announced February that it has won part of a Sh7.6 billion contract to supply geothermal drilling services to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).

KenGen said it would be supplying about 30 percent of the component of phase II which translates to about $ 6.2 million (Sh620 million). Mr Wekesa said the latest win will deepen KenGen’s vision to diversify revenue streams, riding on experience in the energy space. “We have over the period developed a very solid experience in human capital especially in geothermal and we have been seeking opportunities to export our expertise,” said Mr Wekesa.

It is now eying Rwanda and Djibouti for geothermal project, having hosted Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Olkaria geothermal fields in Naivasha last year.

Safaricom is the only Kenyan business listed on the prestigious ‘Forbes Global 2000’ list of the leading 2000 public companies in the world. The firms are ranked based on their sales, profit, assets and market value.
Safaricom posted $2.4 (KSh240) billion in sales in the last financial year with its profit hitting $623 million (KSh63 billion).
