Read about Isaac,Jacob,even Joseph in the Bible,Mary was called his wife yet they weren't living together yet, because he has met all the necessary requirements,in the sight of God they are married.
The most important thing is approval of the girls parents and bride price( which is known today as Traditional marriage).
