For someone like you with a mech eng background you are a veritable asset. To think that you have prior knowledge about the CNC makes you even more valuable because that's what we will be using - 3D printer, CNC Machine etc for fabrication...and I won't be surprised if you have to lead the way.

Programming is easy. As long as you have a great tutor, you would learn it in no time. The courses at NIIT I'm sure sound great...I'm just not sure what people think about the delivery.

At this centre we will surely not just sit down in front of a projector reading, chatting and laughing, we will have classes and workshop sessions.

Someone asked me "at the end of the training, what would we be able to do"

And I said:

"I'm not coming to set up a centre that will train you so you can go get a job. No. The centre is to make you self employed. So at the end of it, trainees can regroup, having learned how to developing ideas, how to build parts, what the standards are, how to programme a machine, and how to infuse artificial intelligence into it, trainees would be able to start a production/support service line"

And what's more? The hub will be able to provide the shared facilities for the various spin-off groups so that you won't need to buy big machines just yet.

Good evening all. Kind of excited when I saw this thread. Might be hard to believe but I resigned at my workplace last month due to my increased passion for artificial intelligence and robotics.

Currently I'm learning from beginner level to understanding ai and ml from online resources.

Would be really interested in this project or any other related opportunities. Currently also looking into studying overseas just for this.

Would love to sign up if not engaged with other stuffs before the startup. Thanks @cacawa2.

I am quite happy that Nigerians are now going into this field but I have one advice for anyone who is interested in AI and the advice is to throw away your windows oS PC and switch to linux preferably Ubuntu.
I have done some small things with regards to AI (very small) but these days, I am mostly interested in building Chatbots (thats my new hobby till these year ends).
I have also dipped my hands in computer vision using opencv on raspberry pi and linux system. I wish it will continue to grow.

here is the link: install opencv4 on RPi but you have to be patient cos it takes quite some time to complete and follow the steps strictly.

You can't compare the ease of setting up a linux system for ML to windows OS. You might probably get frustrated before you get to the finish line.

@Cacawu, and every knowledgeable person on this thread. I'm not quite sure where to start, but I can very well say I'm interested in this AI and robotics stuff. The question I have is where should I start from. I have a laptop(not so great, but manageable), and I also have internet access. But not so much a broad knowledge of programming language except that they follow a particular line of logic. I'm interested in helping my country, are there resources I can lay my hands on? I'm an undergraduate student of biochemistry—final year. I'll like to see if this program can help put my versatile mind to use.

Ok I have seen the link. I have been following that guy's tutorial since and no success yet. That guy is pro in deep learning and image processing. I think one of the mistakes I make is that I installed raspbian OS through NOOB. I have formatted my sd card and reinstalled the raspbian through the raspbian image file. I have send the make command and right now it is at 69%.

mine took almost a day with good internet to install. I have also replicated it on my Ubuntu OS

Finally, I have succeeded in installing the stupid openCV 4 on my raspberry pi. I am now fully armed and dangerous + ready to perform computer vision and image processing.

I'm an entry-level Python developer and I want to believe it's a little safe to say @Cacawa sounds like some career-building messiah. I await an opportunity of such and pray that may God be of assistance to him in all the geography of this journey.
