I, a Nigerian national and my husband (Swiss) reside in the UK. We have tried registering our marriage at the Swiss embassy in London for almost 2 years now but have been told that I need to obtain my FULL birth certificate from the NPC in Nigeria before any registration can be documented in Switzerland (apparently my abridged cert. is not acceptable). As you may understand, my husband is quite upset that while our marriage is recognized in the UK (where our union took place) and my country of origin, in Switzerland we are not even considered married!

1. As I am originally from Delta state but was born in Lagos, do we go to the NPC in Lagos?
2. We have been advised that I would need to go to court to swear to an affidavit declaring my age. Is this a fairly straightforward process?
3. Is it realistic to expect to wrap up this whole process in 1 day i.e. getting both the affidavit and birth certificate?
4. As the B.C is required for out of country/external purposes, would we need to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja to have it certified before submitting to the Swiss embassy in London?
5. What is the cost, on average, for the entire administrative formality?

I would like to hear from those who have personally gone through this process.
Very easy just goto any council or secretariat as we call it here in warri and make sure u go with an affidavit with 12k and after 1 week u get your birth certificate
Cheers and many thanks in advance.

Please Nairalanders, I was born in Warri but my Birth certificate processed by my mum bears Oguta in IMO state where my mum resides. Will it affect me in future in terms of documentation?
If yes, should I go for another or continue with Oguta as my Place of Birth?

Yea. Affidavit. I did mine recently. The company should accept that. Because the cost and stress of getting a new birthday certificate no be here o unless the company doesn't want to give you the job. Even government agencies accept affidavit.

How much does this cost please.

Joysmart:
Since you're above 18 years old you won't be issued a birth certificate rather they'll give you an attestation of birth certificate.
To get that you need
1: 2 passport photos
2: photocopy of identification
3: An avidavit sworn on your behalf by your Mother, Father, sister, brother uncle etc but the person must be older than you.
If you're not in Nigeria you can send someone to do it for you in which case the person will have to bring one passport photograph and a means of Identification.
When all these are ready just take them to the State Office of The National Population commission in the state you are.
