If you're a big waste of time - because honestly this way beyond your paygrade.
theenchanter:
like seriously, u're a mad man, that's so kenyan.

last, long and few by china was not a 2-child policy but a family planning programme, its a propaganda to make people marry late, have fewer children and increase child-spacing period, it helps to reduce birthrate from 6kids/woman to 3kids/woman over that period. it was sparked by food shortage and not economic reasons.
stop blaming economic woes on population but on the structure of the economy.

ur pop was around 9m in d 60s while south Korea was 28m, both of u introduced family planning about d same time. Today, both of u have almost d same pop, why? U introduced urs to illiterates and poverty stricken people who doesnt understand d concept of family planning and u cant force them to succumb cos they werent under military rule while S. Korea introduced theirs to educated populace.

U weren't a producing country in the 70s. More people didn't get wealthy because ur econony wasn't diverse in d 60s n 70s.. ur growth was majorly from agriculture, theirs was from selling top-notch equipments to developed nations.

They grew at an average of 10% for 33years (1962-1995) according to world bank.

They did.... were u producing electronics in the 60s? Were u responsible for over 60% of manufactured products sold in third world countries? undecided

South Korea was investing heavily on industrializing the country n not human capita, they already had an impressive human capita as at that time.

u introduced family planning in 1967, not 80s and 90s, stop twisting history.

Ur gdp growth rate is not because u controlled ur pop but because u invested in infrastructures and human capita.

dont bother to say anything about naija, we dont need it.

Our HCI is tops these parts so coupled with our rapidly improving demographics I think we've a very good chance of avoiding the middle income curse. Also since we're already well diversified and not resource dependent I honestly think we'll at least quadruple our GDP per capita to 8000 k $ by 2032 latest.
Yes we could, biggest risk we are not creating enough formal jobs, out nearly a million job being created annually only 10 % are formal, so we need to real do more to get mass formal jobs, but good thing most of new informal jobs outside farming are competitive with formal jobs of equal education. We also have opportunity with info revolution to fix many things that could otherwise take decade in few years. You can see that already in FinTech and Mobile Money.Other sector are jumping onto the digital economy because we hav sorted financial systems with Mpesa.Exciting times.By 2032 it possible to get 8000 USD per capita... we just have keep growing our per capita by reducing the population. We don't need to change anything, just manage the political risks by entrenching devolution.15 yes ago our GDP per capita was less than 500 and it has risen 4 times...so if grow at same rate...then we can turn 2000 to 8000usd without breaking sweat. Wee need to deepen investment in HCI, bridge the infrastructure deficit and increase our intra Africa trade & investment...and figure how to take advantage of all the excess labour by attracting FDI in stuff like manufacturing.

We can't risk AGOA..that already see 400M USD of apparel exports to US..EPZ.Besides I know protection of infant industries protection is great but not in an environment of corruption. We have to man up n compete even with 2nd hand clothes

Yes our AGOA quotas are far from being reached..new clothes may be expensive for most Kenyans but cheaper if we export .Rivatex and others should focus on export and reserve 30% for domestic...then they will have sustainable business...not a begging bowl.

I just had an braingasm I fantasized Somalia winning ICJ court hearing. Eventually Kenya decides to invade by water air and land. Somalia getting invaded by Kenya the international community condemning it. Kenyan aggression on Somali territorial waters sparked outrage. All Somalis were enraged and ready to fight a war. Somalis were brothers for life again. Not only that.

The Arab League immediately held a summit where Arab countries pledged financial and military support to Somalia and even deployed many Arabs on the Somali border with Kenya. Our Arab brothers finally stepped in.

Midakale because of Somali region in Ethiopia increasing ties with Ethiopia their cushitic outcry was felt in Addis. Somali region is like the arms of Ethiopia it was in pain, and when a part of body is in pain whole body feels it like a Cushitic ummah our Cushitic brothers with PM Abiy Ahmed could not see Cushitic territorial waters get stolen by Bantus and als jumped inside Somalia to defend Somalia from Kenyan land and water grab. this finally sparked Somalia and Ethiopia becoming brothers for life again like old days of antiquity when word Somali was not even existing.

Last but not least Baba Turkey stepped in with their advanced military they destroyed Kenyan air and water military completely humiliating the Bantus.

After this ordeal Kenya was completely sucked dry like Somalia after Galbeed 1977 war NFD rebel group decides to go nuts and other angry Bantu rebel groups hungry at the dumb regime for failing. Then Kenya becomes new failed state while Somalia a emerging developing country with a bolstered experienced military and solidarity.

Assuming that happened, then Kenya's allies would step in. The likes of Israel, Britain, France, USof A and ofcourse the mighty Jubaland grin. Don't forget Uganda (museveni grin) and Ethiopia would never side with Somalia in a million years. And don't be a fcking racist. AFTER YEARS of fighting through sanctions and proxies, America and Iran have come to the brink of a direct confrontation. On the morning of June 20th Iran shot down an American spy drone over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claims the aircraft was flying over its territorial waters, while America insists it was above international waters. Although Donald Trump growled that Iran had made a “big mistake”, he soon tried to downplay the incident. “I find it hard to believe it was intentional,” he said before a meeting with the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau. The president suggested that a “stupid” Iranian officer could have approved anti-aircraft fire without the approval of his superiors.

But by evening Mr Trump had approved his own response: air strikes on radar and missile batteries in Iran. Congressional leaders were summoned for a White House briefing. American warplanes were being readied or, according to the New York Times, already in the air. Then Mr Trump abruptly cancelled the strikes. “We were cocked & loaded to retaliate,” tweeted Mr Trump. He called off the attacks when told they might have killed 150 Iranians, he said; that was “not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone.” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps later said a second American spy plane, carrying 35 people, had been flying near the drone. “We could have shot down that one too, but we did not,” said a senior Iranian officer.

How to interpret the latest events? Perhaps all this is simply a head-fake from a president who built a business career on bluster. Indeed, Iranian officials claim that Mr Trump warned them of the strikes in advance. In a message passed via Oman, which has acted as a mediator in the past, he reportedly insisted that he did not want war and called for negotiations.

Or perhaps his apparent volte-face reflects the turmoil in Mr Trump’s national-security apparatus. He campaigned on ending American military adventures in the Middle East. But his national security adviser, John Bolton, is a longtime Iran hawk who has advocated military action in the past. America has not had a permanent defense secretary since James Mattis stepped down in December. On June 18th Mr Trump announced that his acting defence chief, Patrick Shanahan, was also leaving amid allegations of domestic violence involving his wife and son.

Confrontation in the Gulf has been building for more than a year, since Mr Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal that Iran signed with America and other powers in 2015. The accord had lifted some economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for limits on its nuclear programme. As the Trump administration sought to choke off Iran’s oil exports through renewed sanctions, Iran kept up its end of the bargain until May, then announced that it would begin stockpiling low-enriched uranium in excess of the prescribed limits. It expects to breach that threshold later this month.

It has also seemingly pursued an aggressive, albeit shadowy, response in the region. In May saboteurs blew holes in four oil tankers anchored off the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. Two more tankers were attacked as they sailed in the Gulf of Oman on June 13th. America blames Iran for both incidents (investigators have not made any formal conclusions). It released photographs that show sailors from Iran’s navy removing what appears to be an unexploded limpet mine from one of the ships damaged earlier this month. The Houthis, a Yemeni Shia militia that receives assistance from Iran, have launched several attacks on Saudi infrastructure with missiles and drones, striking an oil pipeline and an international airport, and missing a desalination plant.

The attacks on shipping threaten freedom of navigation in a waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes. Firing anti-aircraft missiles over the Gulf poses another risk: the region is a busy air corridor full of jumbo jets, particularly from large Gulf carriers like Qatar Airways. In 1988 an American warship mistook a passenger jet operated by Iran Air for a military aircraft and shot it down, killing all 290 people on board. After the drone incident, the Federal Aviation Administration warned American aircraft to avoid Iran’s airspace over the Persian Gulf.

America and its Gulf allies will feel the need to restore deterrence. An American aircraft-carrier group, B-52 bombers and extra American troops have already been sent to the Middle East region. But air strikes against Iran could just as easily do the opposite. Shooting down the drone sends a message about Iran’s capabilities. The aircraft, an RQ-4, is built to fly at up to 18,300 metres (60,000 feet), almost twice as high as a commercial airliner. That Iran was able to shoot it down suggests its air defences may be better than America thought.

Still unclear in all of this is exactly what Mr Trump wants. He has suggested that he simply wants a tougher nuclear deal. His secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has outlined a set of demands that ask Iran not just to limit its nuclear work but realign its entire foreign policy. Mr Bolton, as a private citizen, called for regime change. Critics of the deal argued that the president’s “maximum pressure” campaign would force Iran to renegotiate. But it was always more likely to end like this—in steady escalation, with no end in sight.

Talk of quick ships tunaround,Kenya is among Africa's best!

New record witnessed at the Port of Mombasa:

Container vessel Hugo Shulte arrived at the Port of Mombasa on Monday and docked at Berth No. 21 with a total 1750 containers out of which 799 on board were SGR cargo. By yesterday afternoon all the SGR cargo had been departed to the Inland Container Depot Nairobi (ICDN) via SGR while the ship was still at the Port.
The second vessel MSC Capri also arrived late Monday in the second shift with total volumes of 800 containers and docked at Berth No. 17. This ship had 200 boxes for SGR. All the SGR cargo on the vessel had been transported to ICDN(Inland Container Deport Nairobi) by yesterday morning.
“That gives us 100 percent efficiency in what we call ex-hook railage meaning cargo is discharged directly from the vessel onto the SGR wagon to build a block train of 100 containers which is quickly departed to the ICDN,” said Head of Container Operations Mr. Edward Opiyo.
He said the daily evacuations of SGR cargo had reduced movement of cargo by road by more than 50 percent hence saving roads from damage and carnage.
“This has also helped us to manage the yard population in the Port thus maintaining our efficiency levels,” he added.

Mombasa Port(KPA),Equity Bank and Safaricom are now examples of brilliant case studies Havard University is keen to learn from!

The Harvard University has chosen the port of Mombasa as a case study for port operations.

The University has also chosen Safaricom and Equity Bank in their research of successful African business.

It has sent thirty five of its business professors to undertake the study.

They first landed at the port city of Mombasa and toured the port before embarking on a journey to Nairobi via the Standard Gauge Railway passenger train.

In Nairobi, they will today visit Safaricom and Equity Banks. according to the itinerary.

Receiving them in Mombasa, Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director, Daniel Manduku, said Harvard settled on the port because of its recent record-breaking performances.

This coupled with its geographical position and connection to more than 80 ports globally also attracted the scholars.

Manduku said the port of Mombasa is this year expected to hit an all-time high profit of Sh15.4 billion, making it the only government-owned institution to post such a high return.

He said the port is currently doing an average of 225 cargo trains from Mombasa to the Inland Container Depot in Embakasi, Nairobi.

“I do not know of any port in the world that evacuate cargo using 200 cargo trains per month. At the port of Mombasa, we are now averaging about 225 trains per month. It is a case that is worth to study,” said Manduku.

The scholars toured the port just a day after US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter visited the facility.

The US government has funded the installation of 11 state-of-the-art radiation portal monitors at the port of Mombasa to curb on illicit trade.

The US has also built a central alarm station and provided portable monitors to ensure any radiological or nuclear materials are promptly detected and analysed.
