The bolded has been giving us concern on this thread..

Abeg Gurus, what do you think

why should this give you concern.........

except if you are confusing what the term means student personal funds

If it is more than the school cost of attendance then it is a good thing . If i say the school cost of attendance is 20k but the student has shown me evidence of student fund of 40k . Surely there nothing of concern then , other than it been a good thing . I ask for 20k the student has 40k .

Visa approved this morning 6:30am. Zero funding, no AP and SOA wasn’t all that rich. Would post my transcript once I am settled.

hello guys ! good afternoon, i've been a silent reader of this forum and ive read many of the transcripts here, however most of them do not fit my own case, i will like specific advisory for what direction I should be prepared for a visa interview being admitted as a credit transfer student in Energy economics, University of central oklahoma, graduated with a B.Sc in geology, December 2016, finished NYSC in 2018, wrote GRE (311)and TOEFL(94) couldnt secure a masters admission from university of oklahoma in energy economoics last year , then reapplied for credit transfer (more like direct entry here in Nigeria), and secured admission for fall 2019. ive paid half my tution, and i have funding for the full fees available in my father's SOA,
PS: im applying for only oklahoma schools because i have family there, which reduces many costs
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by olasijiayo: 4:06pm On Jun 24, 2019
please enlighten me on the possible grey areas that may be surrounding my application and what i can work on, thanks in anticipation

The problem with this is ........university of oklahoma is not the only school in the world. With that GRE score why would you limit yourself to that school or nothing . A VO can interpret is this is not a serious student , a serious student would have applied to various schools and only use direct entry (going backwards) as a last resort and then to add that you are targeting that state due to family there .

However Interview is subjective so VO might not scrutinize it too much and you might be able to sell your story and get a visa. Just dont tell it , all the bolds how you just wrote it now.

so do you think i should just say i transferred some credits without necessarily saying i graduated from the program because they might wonder why another BS, im honestly trying to change career but not deviate too far from my first love, energy economics is the economics for the geologists petroleum engineers and the likes in that field

I20 said funds from father, yours is a relative right? you might be asked why the relative is sponsoring you, prepare for that, and hopefully there is enough funds in the SOA to cover deficit and still have some balance left, so that VO don't assume relative wants to empty their account for you.

Visa delayed today :
VO: Why do you want a doctorate degree?
Me: the doctorate degree is expected to raise my educational capabilities in research and teaching. Before now I've taught mathematics. Further mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A level and pre-varsity centres. Such a profound program with will enable me(cut in)
I didn't even imagine you were going for a PhD until I got to an advanced level of your transcript. Bro, your refusal was too clear as you weren't prepared at all. The situation is not hopeless. You need to go tidy up and then refire.

3.3/7 UI Geology?! That GPA is around 2.9-3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Something ain't enticing on your application packet or maybe you didn't target schools that match you profile. There's something we call Ambitious, Moderate and Safe... Last 60 hours? What did you have?

Which schools did you apply to. Try using the WES iGPA calculator to determine the most likely conversion of your GPA.

Probably you applied to schools too ambitious for your profile.
Some people with second class lower got admission plus funding this Fall. School selection is key

I finished from UI too and I can assure you that if you look well, you can secure a PhD admission with your profile.

3.3/7
311
94.

The key to this hustle is don't stop looking till you get what you want. Leave family out of this, fend for yourself first... If you get a fully funded admission, I'm certain those fams would be proud of you too. Don't limit yourself bro.

As God liveth, you can get a FULLY FUNDED admission with that profile. I'm serious. Just make google your friend and always reach out to professors. Disturb their life.. I say that a lot. Knock until you break those door hinges. Nothing is bad in wishing your potential supervisor a merry Christmas or whatever celebration it is. Just use your resources wisely bro.

Do you know your letter of recommendations can open doors for you? Make sure you trust who recommends you... A professor can write "he's God fearing and honest" - a paragraph LOR and you expect to get funded with that? If it's possible, let them draft and let you cross check before they send it.

I see you get a better offer bro. Don't limit yourself!
