Wema nko?

Wema won't go under, I assure you.

It is the former Owena bank and the SW Governors (Former Western Region) would just pull funds out and dump in it.

Wema knows its existence is always protected and that's why they aren't aggressive in growth or innovation.

For the lazy readers like the guy above me, here is the reason why CBN decided this recapitalization

"Speaking on strategies to achieving these priorities, Emefiele said the CBN would implement its agenda under various initiatives.

This, he noted, would enable the bank to achieve macroeconomic stability, exchange rate stability, financial system stability, financial inclusion, access to credit, lending to MSMEs, consumer credit and mortgage lending among others.".

Instead of you to explain in your own words, you’re still bringing it out verbatim.... Olodo

This is good so long our money is safe, but who made the naira this weak angry, just imagine how they're comparing the capital base of banks based on the rate at which dollar was from 2004 vs now.

FG should also compare dollar rate then vs now while taking decision on Workers payment, welfare et al. While the politicians enjoy huge wage, great number of Nigerians live below $1 a day.

Image how long it took to upgrade the minimum wage, compare their wage then vs now with dollar then vs now.

God bless Nigeria
God bless good people
God give our leaders understanding and wisdom to lead.

The numbers they're quoting about Nigerians living on less than a dollar a day is highly bogus.

A dollar is worth about N364 on the black market. Families living below that cannot afford medical treatments, drugs and even nutritious food.

So where are these emaciated, frail, ailing, quivering mass of starving wretches falling down and dying in their millions everyday?

Summary. They spent last four years deceiving themselves and our currency devalued. At first, they had to adjust petrol price which made it all a waste of time. Now they have to strengthen the banks all over again. We still lost jobs massively in between so we really have nothing to show for this last 4 years. TSA was pointless. So is all the noise about foreign reserves increase. Further maths is different from math last last.

Economic management is a complex beast. See how everything interconnects? I think these guys thought Okonjo was playing abi? They were taking decisions independent of the big picture and always prepared to blame PDP after every misstep.

Just say you want to continue the policy of Soludo which you have found unbeatable. He has said it will be 100B in 15years. What will have been right is to acknowledge his foresight and intellectuality.

We will only be left with just 5 banks.

First Bank

GTB

Access

Zenith bank

Other Banks

Are you saying banks didnt recapitalize before Soludo?
Recapitalization is a textbook process known to all individuals in the banking industry.

Now I know we need divine intervention in Nigeria. The capitalisation exercise was carried out before has crippled many banks. Some of the banks that met the requirements eventually died-Intercontinental,Bank PHB,Diamond etc.Any fresh recapitalization will catapult many banks into the ocean. Let's strengthen our economy and things will work out fine.

No brother, you getting it wrong.....recapitalization of the cash reserves is not same as the objectives he wishes to actualize....the 5 priorities he stated are not the strategies he would use to recapitalize the banks capital base. He jus needs approval from the governors committee on the amount they want to augment the current capital base with.

Oga, nor be by name o, go and check their financial reports before making any list. Diamond had a better name, but we all witnessed the end result. Heritage would certainly go down unless something is done urgently. Las las many will form merger, while others would be relegated to the likes of WEMA and other regional banks.

Last time I checked, Sterling bank has a bigger shareholder equity than FCMB. You should replace Sterling bank with FCMB.
