Good Morning Nairalanders!

I finished my national youth service in 2015 and was couldn't get a job until last year that I decide to open a business, and as God will have it the business has been growing.

Now I am in a dilemma between accepting a police job (note, it's not a graduate level position) and growing my business.

I don't want to reject the job and regret later and I also do not want to accept the job and wish I didn't.
Those in the know should tell me how easy it is to be upgraded to a graduate level position after entering with O'level and how a constable earns.

It's obvious so many people want to know my nature of business. I am into buying and selling of wares and must confess it's a good business, (though I am not where I want to be, I can say the future is bright).

Bro if ur biz has future prospects i did advise u ditch the job since it's a non graduate position. You will probably be working at the roadblocks which will not be palatable.

What buisness are you into that is making you give a thought into accepting a police job that isn't a graduate level job?

If you are very ashame to give us your business description then I don't think you should reject the police job.....at least if you accept the offer you can say, "hey, I'm a police officer!"

OP please don't sell your soul to the Nigerian Police force cos I heard they're a soul and conscience sucking agencies where even tough pastors and imams joined and lost their sanity

Business over Salary anytime any day. I wish u can see the future of your business you won't be contemplating this.

Do you know what it takes to upgrade employment status/level? It can take between 6-10 years...

Whereas, you are already doing something (profitable I guess). There's nothing as fulfilling as being a business owner, being your own boss. Learn more, plan and pray. As a business owner you have no limit. The only thing that should make you trade that opportunity should be a better placed opportunity not a constable.

Unless they are positioning you around International Airport where you can be collecting Bribes & Obtaining cash from innocent passengers for no reason. Nigerian Police force work is the most useless work in this life.

You said you already own a Business that is doing very well and now you're contemplating whether to accept a Police Constable Job? Not even a graduate entry job ooo. An "O" Level job... I see you don't know what you want in life really... As for me, if i were in your position, whatever will make me quit my blossoming business for a salary job has to be really worth it.. I mean the job has to be up to my standard as a University graduate at least and i must be sure the pay by month end is way better than my overall Business profit by month end...

You need to give us the clear picture by stating the kind of business . If you are the business type I will advice you not to take the job. Everyone cannot do salaried job but if you chose to be an entrepreneur you need to be ready to work hard and you will get paid accordingly.

It will be very difficult as a graduate to be upgraded based on your result, unless you are connected with 'who knows who'. It will take you ten years before you would be upgraded to the Sergeant cadre..




I don't k know the nature of your business, but I would advise you take up the job.

Sometimes, one source of income may not be enough for sustainability sake. You can get the police job while maintaining the business as side hustle

Combine the two & look for someone(marry or ur wife) to temporarily manage it while be on training & try influence your posting to the state of business. After all, your offer seems to be through lobby & man-know-man.

No such conversion in Police. Rather you resign & compete for higher position. Mind you that at this point, u have edge over others because of your network & ogas you have worked with.

Accept the job boy.

Gid bless you ooo... I am a new business owner myself. Graduated 2015 and finished service 2016.. I later decided to go learn a skill and finally working with it noww. There's still a lot to be done in the set up and i haven't started getting customers yet. But like you said, nothing beats being one's own Boss... And one should never despise days of little beginnings... I believe the future is bright
