Chwukwueze reveals the Super Eagles teammate helping him improve goal.com Jun 28, 2019 2:54 PM The Villarreal youngster admits he looks up to the Super Eagles captain and counts his current team-mate as one of his idols Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze has revealed why he regards Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel as a "role model". The highly-rated forward enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2019, as he sealed his place in Villarreal’s first team and also made the country's Africa Cup of Nations squad. The 20-year-old, who has been compared to Arjen Robben due to his dribbling skills, made his Afcon debut against Burundi before making a cameo appearance against Guinea after replacing Alex Iwobi. He could not be in better company, though, with the youngster admitting that he considers former Chelsea star Mikel to be ideal role model. “All the players have been good to me but the one who stands out is [John Obi] Mikel,” Chuwkwueze told Goal. “He always tells me to always be focused and concentrate on my game because I’m still growing up. To him, hard work is the easiest way to greatness.” Obi Mikel, Chuwukwueze, Osimhen If Chukwueze gets close to achieving what Mikel has done in his career then he will undoubtedly have fulfilled the potential he is showing at present. However, the less-pressured lad is still savouring his achievement of making his Afcon bow, while revealing his Egypt ambition with the three-time Africa champions. “Playing in the Africa Cup of Nations is huge for me and a dream come true. I’ve been hoping to play in this competition as a kid and I’m so happy it’s coming at this time,” he continued. “The technical crew has been kind to me too. They keep encouraging me to do more and better because they believe in my ability. “There is no pressure at all because I play week in week out for my club before a huge crowd, so playing among the big boys is what I am used to. “We have everything to win the trophy and with luck on our side, we will achieve that with everyone playing his own part.” Gernot Rohr’s men are through to the Round of 16 with a game to spare. They face Madagascar in their last Group B encounter with the Super Eagles chasing their 47th win in the history of the competition. goal.com 5 Likes |

NFF gives Falcons coach, Aigbogun July 31 to submit world cup report By Andrew Abah, Abuja on June 29, 2019 Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby and his Flying Eagles counterpart Paul Aigbogun have been directed by the Nigeria Football Federation to make their world cup reports available to the secretariat on or before end of July 2019 as the Technical Committee is set to meet the first week of August 2019. According to Coach Bewarang, NFF head of Technical Department, the directive became necessary as the Technical Committee is to review the performance of the nation’s football teams that participated in both CAF and FIFA competitions this year. Also, Sportinglife.ng learnt that Paul Aigbogun who led the country’s national U20 team to FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland and managed to reach the knockout stage after emerging as one of the best losers is yet to make his report available to the glasshouse. “The Federation needs to review the outing of its national teams especially the concluded competitions like super Falcons, Flying Eagles, Future Eagles and other age group teams including those preparing for competitions later in the year. Like you know the flying eagles and super falcons got to the knockout stage by luck and we need to review the outing and recommend ways to do better in the future.” Said Bewarang. The former Plateau Utd Football Club Boss revealed that the Female National U20 team (Falconets) just called to camp for the All Africa Games will be closely monitored as the target is to win a medal at the games. sportinglife.ng |

Afcon: Victor Osimhen injury not serious – Toyin Ibitoye By Brendan Umoren - June 28, 2019 The injury sustained by RSC Charleroi of Belgium forward, Victor Osimhen is not that serious and may not stop the 20-year-old from making his 2019 Africa Cup of Nations debut in Nigeria’s last group game against Madagascar on Sunday in Alexandria. Osimhen injury There were fears that the ex-Golden Eaglets star was going to join the list of injured players in the Eagles camp when he went down after he was tackled in the team’s training session at the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria on Thursday morning. Osimhen was able to shake off the injury and finished the training with the rest of his teammates after receiving treatment from Eagles’ medical crew. “Osimhen is fine” Toyin Ibitoye, the media officer of the Eagles replied when asked him about the injury to Belgium based forward. “Yes, he might have picked a knock in training which is not a big deal but he was in training from start to finish,” Ibitoye said. Ibitoye further added that all the players participated in yesterday’s training session apart from the recuperating duo of Jamilu Collins and Shehu Abdullahi. Germany based Collins who has not played a game for the Eagles since the AFCON started may not be fit for Sunday’s game against Madagascar same with Abdullahi who started Nigeria’s opening game against the Swallows of Burundi but had to be Stretchered off due to injury with Chidozie Awaziem taking his place. today.ng/sport 1 Like |

andrew444: Remember when Zambia took the AFCON where were the majority of thier players playing ❓ La Liga ❓ ❓ On paper Senegal is arguably the best selection of players. However, team cohesion is another thing. Cote De Voire on paper have better players, by virtue of clubs and league. But the big question is can they play together as a team effectively. In my opinion most of the West African teams don't play the best as a team but rely on individual brilliance to get competitive advantage. For me the North African have the most organised teams add to that some world and top class players. Then put in the mix home advantage. l really can not see a sub Saharan team winning this years AFCON. 4 Likes |

gamaliel9: What's so good about that news. The Belguim league is not a top league and you really have to be in the top 5 best to really get noticed by the big club and or leagues. KC going to Belguim is not good news it really means he is not good enough for the EPL and he is failing bafly. And really he should be able to get a Championship club. But l don't think any progressive Championship club will look at him. 1 Like |

komekn: U have never hidden ur dislike for the Belgian league, what he posted was a good news to us, if it wasn't to u. Our best players today went through that route, hence the ecstasy. Onyekuru, Osimhen, Awoniyi et al never played for the top 5 best yet distibguished themselves and got recognized. BTW, the guys he reported about all joined teams that finished 1-4,how is that a bad news. Always endeavour to make proper findings before coming here to vomit. U really do know nothing about this round leather game outside the lower leagues of English football. Semid4lyfe please add this man to that list abeg mtcheew 7 Likes |

Oasis007: This is a line up, IMO that would get slaughtered by most teams in the AFCON. First of all its all attack minded. The Midfield would be completely OVER RUN, nobody on tjat midfield is a water carrier ready to do the hard work. Mikel could but way too slow. There is almost no physicality in the team, there is huge physicality in AFCON. You want your forward line up to be led by two rookie players with little experience just potential, who have essentially played thier first season of first team competitive football. That would be very very unwise. Iwobi doesn't work hard enough in his defensive duties so there will be too many gaps. Then you complement him with two players who can only go forward and lack defensive discipline and awareness in Kalu and Onyekuru. That's just SUICIDAL. Another issue you have no height, teams with little technical ability will just go police game. Ball in the air let's fight for it. That team would be used for Suya by Burundi. 12 Likes 1 Share |
