Don't mean to sound alarmist, but I don't think a lot of people understand the history of Ruga settlements... 'Ruga settlements' came about from the deployment of fighters known as Ruga-Ruga, by Western colonial powers who used these settlement to expand their military colonial influence over Africa... Historical Companion to Postcolonial Literatures: Continental Europe and its Colonies, Edinburgh University Press, 2008. Ruga-ruga: The History of an African Profession, 1820–1918". In Nina Berman; Klaus Mühlhahn; Patrice Nganang (eds.). German Colonialism Revisited: African, Asian, and Oceanic Experiences. Of course, the name has taken on different meanings over time, but its primary origin (I stand to be further educated) is military expansionist in nature & application. So the history of 'Ruga settlements' is steeped in conquest & expansion & considering the historical events that have led to the proposed establishment of the present settlements, it is hard not to associate it with something sinister. The FG needs to be more open on this Ruga issue, especially when it had earlier claimed that the attacks were from foreigners, so the question is, is Nigeria now building settlements for foreigners? Same foreigners who have killed & maimed Nigerian citizens? 4 Likes |

blackpanda: Baseless lies!!... settlements were created in the military era, even the govt attested to it. Moreover It's not a Religious issue... it's a security issue.. Is "Ruma kuka Jangari" of 1965 still a grazing reserve or an ancestry of El-Rufai? 7 Likes

lastmessenger: Why are you just being so unreasonably stubborn? Nigeria's population is heading towards 200 million and growing !!!! The Cattle livestock required to feed that population will require grazing fields beyond that in the home State of many herdsmen hence their itinerant nature. Besides, start focusing on the positives and eschew hate that blinds you to the obvious. Cancer is killing many in the West mainly because of how livestock (meat of all kind) are farmed. In the West they are pumped full of hormones, antibiotics to be cured in Chlorine and then raised unnaturally and unhealthily in confined space because of the extreme pressure to feed more mouths. We have a traditional system that helps us eat organic Beef, essentially, and all you can focus on is the Fulani component rather than look at solutions that will preserve this beneficial way of farming Cattle? You tell me why cancer rate in Nigeria is much lower in Nigeria than in the UK for example? Nigeria 180 million and 41,000 die of cancer. UK 66 million 164,000 died of cancer and you are here talking garbage out of hate for Fulani. We simply need to all try to be solutions providers and appreciate what we have. A holistic approach is required and that has begun with this government that is trying to establish grazing ares and moving bravely to ban the Almajiri system where kids are kept out of school and uneducated to then become menaces to society. Did the PDP you lot love to worship ever propagate the long-term solution we are now seeing from the APC? All you guys do is negativity out of hate for others. We have to address the mass illiteracy in the North. Simple. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/health/309867-cancer-killed-41000-people-in-nigeria-in-2018-who.html https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/health-professional/cancer-statistics-for-the-uk There are around 164,000 cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's around 450 every day (2014-2016). https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/insecurity-fg-moves-to-ban-almajiri-system.html

SarkinYarki: Evil Government? You are the evil one brother. A government bravely proposing very permanent solutions is evil while the PDP you support is saintly with its business-as-usual approach in the 16 years the Party was in power? Herdsmen menace started today ba? It was not a problem under OBJ, Yar Adua and GEJ abi? What solutions did those PDP Presidents proffer? Go and learn your history and stop coming here to react to topics out of hate for others that has blinded your reasoning and objectivity totally. 1 Like 3 Shares |

Oshigun:listen and be attentive. History is there for us to learn from and avoid future mistakes. The antecedent of the Fulani's as a trouble making people are evident for a to see. Please if you want to ruga please ruga in your North for all I care. Are you not the same people who boast of your large land mass? Is the land mass of Niger State state not more than that of the whole south east combined together? Why looking for lands in where you cannot find it? If you want to ruga please ruga in your North. Esseite: Why are some of you so obdurately married to negativity? OP clearly explained Government plans to deal with the herdsmen menace permanently. I am saying that the benefit for us all will be positive. We should focus more on bringing pressure to bear on Government to act quickly rather than be negative only considering this government is pursuing some very innovative solutions previous PDP government never bothered to think about let alone suggest. A holistic solution which will deal with the problem of encroachment into farmlands and an inclusive plan which will integrate both farmers and herdsmen into modern way of farming and grazing needs to be sought to find a lasting solution to the incessant crisis. The Federal Government is working on a 10 year mediation plan, stemming from recommendations from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the private sector, as well as from the National Economic Council (NEC) being chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. |

Oshigun: Islamization of Nigeria a solution to what exactly? Why is the govt avoiding sending the herds men to Kano where the govt has offered them the endless Falgore Forest which can host all the cattles in Nigeria ..But instead Buhari opts to create the equivalent of a Local Govt Areas for Fulanis in all 36 states as a solution, NO that's is no solution but broad daylight expansionism using deceit..At a time the govt should be disarming the heavily Armed terrorist Fulanis that have killed over 25 thousand people and bring them to Justice they are instead carving out Illegal Local govt areas for them in each state so in a few years they can take over such states using violence and population explosion.. All states especially those in middle belt and South must reject these unholy RUGAs which are end up going to be Terrorist camps as big as Local Govt Areas .. Nigeria'ns will reject this deception called RUGA with all our might 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Another indicator of how some Southerners (wont mention any name) can think progressively and will lead Nigeria well while others cannot and will be a disaster at the centre with their natural proclivity for hating others and never seeing the big picture. To you we should all form vigilante groups and then kill each other like savages. Two wrongs don't make a right. Look at the name below Ogbeni. Oshigun: From the attached picture... we had Ruga settlements in 1965, 1987 etc during the military era.. where are those settlements today? What villages are they called today in Kaduna? You said the PDP never did anything about it, but the mayhem was not this much with killings about.. "a child only misbehaves when its parents are in support." This may not be my stand, but Nigeria has gotten to that stage every tribe has gone to protect it's own which is reflex because it seems "the parents of the spoilt child are in support of the child's beheavior". 2 Likes 1 Share

Oshigun: You can fool yourself all you want to but we know your Agenda and You Will will fail . If given Fulanis the equivalent of a Local Govt in every part of Nigeria is not Islamization what is ? What's is the difference between objectives of Uthman Dan Fodio and what Buhari is doing? You should be ashamed of yourself, at a time when other govts are taking of how to deliver 21st century infrastructure to their people you are here supporting the buiding of archaic terrorist corridors call Rugas whose primary aim is to hand over Nigeria fully to the Fulanis .. when it comes to other infrastructure Buhari will always claim there is no budget or money yet now he can source money to expedite the building if these unholy RUGAs .. you are shameless and very wicked for at a time you should be clamouring for electricity your are here clamouring for Rugas .. don't you think if the govt put these Ruga interest into electricity Nigerians will have better electricity supply in no time 10 Likes 1 Share |

there is no too many talk here, the south easterners dont need your RUGA! is that too hard to comprehend? if we dnt deserve a sea port,an international airport,a federal government appointment, senate president or even president just because u claimed our land is land locked,or because we didn't vote apc, then also do us good by denying us the RUGA! u claimed that niger state is bigger than the whole of south east, still u want to take the little we have from us?we will resist this RUGA poo with the last drop of our blood down here in the East,,you can establish ur RUGA in the north, southwest or south south, but dont dare try that rubbish in the east..be warned! 5 Likes |

blackpanda: I don't think he sounds arrogant, his questions are correct, FG should start the program from the core North like Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Kano, Kastina, Yobe, Kebbi etc. they should start the pilot phase there, when we see the viability and how it will benefit other parts of the country before diving into it. Every policy in Nigeria is always presumed to be beneficial to the masses until after implementation that is when we get to feel the pains. If truly RUGA is very good as claimed they should test run in their states. 5 Likes |

I wish nigerians can wake up and think logically instead of knee jerk emotional reactions based on bias and zero evidence. This is a project that will put food on the table, money in the pocket and jobs for d unemployed. But all these people can focus on is Fulani tribe. Sad really |

blackpanda: Actuall, the North needs this cos they suffer poverty, hunger and joblessness. Establish the Ruga settlements in the core Northern states and carry the Almajiris to work there. The government said the fulanis herders causing trouble aren't Nigerians. Why does government now want to give Nigerian lands to non-Nigerians. You too, think. Does it make sense. 7 Likes |
