AutoMoTech: on the contrary, it makes a whole lot of sense.... just that I feel the mechanic should indulge in ownership more but I also still feel I am asking for too much. like u said, "u don't manufacture cars" this is a very very common line for situations gone south.... it's a grey area bro..... but I'd feel better if a mechanic who inspected a ride for me should be able to stamp his feet and say.... if this vehicle gives u any problems ranging from X, Y and Z.... bring it to my workshop.... but like I said, I still feel like I'm asking for too much.... it's something that I don't even have answers to.... I just brought up the scenario to the mix so we can also know that issue still dey when COMPETENT mech goes to inspect vehicles for a potential buyer.... it's not a perfect solution to buying naija used.... |

AutoMoTech: in the light of all these... Get to know all or at least some things about the ride one wants to purchase.... involve a competent mechanic who has a long history of satisfied customers buy the ride and pray that nothing happens and the villagers don't remember you to the floor members.... I think Gazuzz has a thread on buying naija used cars sha.... it has helped a lot of buyers so far... as for me, I am. trying my possible best to learn all I can about rides and I do this in the little spare time I have.... and for me to buy a car, brother at least I'd have covered like 50percent of everything regarding the ride.... you can imagine that I bought an 06 Camry just after selling off my 03 Camry.... I could have bought something else within that price range... but I was just hesitant... much to the distaste of my friends and colleagues..... but inside me I knew why it's a me thing sha I hate taking uncalculated risks and I heard that the higher the risk, the higher the returns.... but my brother.... not for me oh 1 Like |

tetralogyfallot: I have used the very same car since 2012 and I dont think my problems would even be half the number of yours. One thing someone rightly mentioned here is the possible abuse of your car by Kazeems. If there's one thing I know in my years of using my Focus, they do NOT take abuse well at all! Oh and yes, those Kazeems can misdiagnose the hell out of a car! Five fuel pumps?! How?! Were you pumping the fuel out of an oil well?! 4 Likes |

obekediamondfuto: oh! Now i get it your point perfectly. Yes for sure, the mecha ic shld be d first point of call and based on whateva the fault might be you can agree if to proceed to the seller or not. As a professional my word and my reputation is everything. Wc means I should be able to confidently "suggest" that the customer to buy the car based on certain variables. That means for me to give the go ahead, the car must pass if not all atleast 95% of tests i carry out. Like you said it a grey area truly, but then just to give yiu a better chance at buying a good car and not a lemon. 1 Like |

AgentGoat: sir there is a difference btw the job and the product. My point is this, if you employ Gazzuzz to inspect a car before U purchase, U av a higher chance of buying a good car rather than a lemon. Why? He knows this cars, he has the experience, the knowledge and skill. Baba wont even touch a kazeemised car. But then does that mean the "better car "wont ever ever develop a fault? Thats not possible na. Bt to a large extent he will be a able to guarantee certain things just like daddy Obeke stated. But an outright guarantee say the motor no go ever spoil? Thats impossible. That was my humble point sir... 2 Likes |

billy187: as in bro 5 pumps o... and they didnt consider running a deep scan tho spot the possible problems. My thot is there r various faulty components contributing to that cars wahala. They should take it one step at a time. Diagnosing based on symptoms and other gathered data rather than guess work and throwing parts at the car. 1 Like |

As my grandpa used to say, only 2 things can kill a man so quick.. 1, BAD CAR. 2, BAD WIFE. There is nothing bad in buying a Nigerian used car,you just have to be lucky enough even after inspection. Dispose the car b4 it kills you,a bad car can be compared to cancer, stay clear. 2 Likes

AutoMoTech: Guarantee on what specifically? It’s a law in the USA to offer warranties on used cars and services. |
Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by elshanAutos: 6:48am On Jul 03, 2019 |
Always buy a Nigerian used car, but ALWAYS have a professional mechanic to inspect before purchase. If your mechanic isn’t charging you for his time to inspect that car? Discard him. Some of the best deals you will ever get are on Nigerian used cars. Lastly, “sweet soup” ... in 2017 I bought a Nigerian used perfect Honda Accord 2007 for 1.150m for personal use. Yes I paid that much for it as a dealer. You will always experience whatever grade of car you buy, as bush baby can only give birth to bush baby. Be rest assured unusually cheap cars are usually no good. Sorry for your ordeals OP. |

Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by obekediamondfuto(m): 6:53am On Jul 03, 2019 |
UnitedAlliance: Well in a country like Nigeria where 50 percent of the people trying to sell a naija used vehicle are strictly selling to trade off their problems with the ride, I don't think the seller can offer any form of warranty.... In fact they cant even guarantee that the ride will take u home same day 1 Like |

elshanAutos: I’m not sure what you found funny in my comment. Some of us takes automobiles seriously. I suggest that you educate yourself so you can come across as an informed and responsible adult. There is as such as federal and state used car laws. At minimum. |
Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by Nobody: 6:59am On Jul 03, 2019 |
obekediamondfuto: I responded specifically to this statement. “On the guarantee thing even even big car dealerships in the abroad dont ever give guarantees.” Warranty in Nigeria will require a dedicated approach. Not easy but possible. |
Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by elshanAutos: 7:02am On Jul 03, 2019 |
UnitedAlliance:I suggest you adhere to rule 21 of nairaland, and ENG 101. Have a nice day. |
Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by obekediamondfuto(m): 7:03am On Jul 03, 2019 |
UnitedAlliance: I totally concur with this.... Not easy but possible! And that's a hidden goldmine But on the issue of guarantee/ warranty .... It's just that one is documented and the other isn't.... Giving guarantees shouldn't be a problem, it's just a promise na.... So me I'd take a guarantee from someone with something to protect and warranty from someone new |
Re: Don't Ever Buy Nigerian Used Car. by elshanAutos: 7:04am On Jul 03, 2019 |
UnitedAlliance:Also, note; guarantee is the actual assurance itself, whilst warranty is usually a written guarantee. |

UnitedAlliance:The warranty/guarantee is only valid if the car is serviced by the brand authorised dealer and car still under the manufacturers guarantee. |
