During a Sunday School session in a Christ Apostolic Church at Surulere, Lagos, a matter cropped up about someone who saw her dead father in dreams, giving her instructions on some matter.

Several suggestions were made to explain the phenomenon, with the Pastor dismissing it as demonic because it contradicted Heb 9:27, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."

The Pastor rather confidently generalised and categorised as evil all stories of departed souls being seen in unfamiliar environments, and the tendency for families to name new babies after a departed relation, in the belief that such were reborn. Can such cases be pinned on demonic body thieves?

Preferring to only listen, I wished I could tell the church that Jide Kosoko, yes, the Nollywood actor, had his maternal lineage enmeshed in such a story. His cousin, my friend, told me. And I am told the man produced a movie on the subject.

Today, a lady, told me of her Dad, a wealthy Igbo businessman, was matchetted to death in ethno-religious riots in Zaria in the 1960s. When the man's pregnant wife delivered, the baby girl bore dark marks all over her body that looked like machete cuts. That baby grew and always told her siblings and mum that she was their father and husband and had returned to continue the assignment of catering for them, which he was prevented from doing by his untimely death.

Can dead people return with repaired bodies? The Bible cites one instance, Matthew 27:52-53, "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."

Really, do we totally understand this subject of dead people having a second chance at life? Have we exposed everything about the cycle of life?

Abi, did the Bible not say in 1 Corinthians 13:9 "For we know in part..." and " Deuteronomy 29:29 "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law"?

What are your thoughts? Share factual experiences, please.

biblically, once some died that's all. but there is something of note in the book of hebrew concerning having trait or information from ones ancestors. HEBREW 7 : 8-108-10
8 In the one case, thetenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.9One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham,10because whenMelchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor. the soul is not coming back; but the spirit. John came back in with the spirit of Elijah. so the possibility of carrying over the information from past life is possible is not at the same time. note the behaviour of some children or people, all most similar with their ancestors. not really the soul of the any of the ancestors but one of their spirit.

Am I mad? Is my spirit mad? I'll rather just commit spiritosuicide. Isit not even better to be gathering your firewood for your bunk in hellfire than to come and face Buhari, Myetti Allah and this Zoogeria?

I don't think the mystery of reincarnation can be solved anytime soon. Since d reincarnated person would never pose for photographs or DNA testing

Nice topic.

To me, I think death puts an end to the life of humans and animals as well. When a person dies, that's the end of it all. I don't believe in reincarnation.

I wonder why humans have so many beliefs where the soul of man goes to or what happens to man after death but has none as regards the end of animals

I've heard rumours of reincarnation and they don't seem to cease but I haven't witnessed any myself and I'm certain that everyone on this thread haven't had an encounter either, they are all hearsays. So I don't believe stories of reincarnation. To me, when someone is deceased, they cease to exist.

Base on our two major religion perspective (both Christian and Islamic), it is not possible they called it demonic but base on our traditional religions and believe it is possible

I don't have any biblical backing but from what I have seen and experience so far, reincarnation is real, the world is really mysterious....

2018 and above really thought me about spiritualism and Co...

Modified

The 1st encounter I had was that of my aunt (dad's younger sister)... I dreamt of an accident that killed a co tenant of mine, his car was hit out of nowhere, he didn't die instantly after the 1st somersault, then the 2nd somersault made him sustain a neck injury, I was beckoning on other neighbours including the man's wife to help me take the man to the hospital but they were all looking at me like nothing happened, then I had to get a wheel barrow to take him to the hospital (all these were in the dream).. The 1st hospital rejected him telling me that they can't treat him and I had to take him to the next hospital, which later took him in, I was like let them commence treatment, lest I forget, that particular hospital was very crowded and for sometime I started looking for a doctor to ask about the man... A man approached me and I told me that I don't belong here that I should leave asap, that he would relate with me If something good comes out of it.. I gave myself sense and left and was like after all, why would I carry the matter for head since the man ain't my hubby.. I left the hospital and met the man wife but she cared less about the incident..

I had another dream pertaining my kid after the 1st dream which made me cry and woke up and also found myself crying... I called my mom and narrated the dream to her but for our selfish reasons, we only prayed against the death of my son as I saw it in the dream.. Only for my mom to call me 2 days later, that my aunt died in an accident as exactly as I saw it my dream, the 1st hospital rejected her that she should be taken NAUTH but on reaching there, she was confirmed dead.. (A car hit her car out of nowhere and she somersaulted and a neck injury with other internal injuries)....

On reaching mortuary to see her, I went unaccompanied, BELIEVE ME I saw my aunt sitting on a rock near the building of the mortuary, she was looking at me eye to eye, I was frozen to death.. And since then I blamed myself for her death...

More stories still coming, let me attend to my kids

Before I start, if you want to know whether you are a reincarnated soul, check your dominant hand, in between the life and head line, you will see a mark 'X', it shows you are one and believe me, you should must have encountered one or two experiences of spiritualism...

So cum 2018, Precisely on February 2018, I had a dream that my mom won't survive the year 2018, as usual I cried out from my dream to reality... Believe I have known it would come to past like others because my parents are already aware of my gifts or (I call it my torments and miseries)... I hid this one from them but went on and told my siblings and a priest that guides me on this path (I have every evidence of all these)... March 2018, my mom took ill cry cry, I was devastated, reason because I told my dad and siblings the nature of the illness, so we can tackle it on time but they all choosed to ignore me... But still, it never deterred me from taken it upon myself to take care of her till the day she died, 2 days before she died, she had a dream where a man and a woman took her to a deserted place until she complained she was tired and she needed to go back before I woke her up.. (She shouted at me that I should have allowed her to sleep more) after her death, I told myself that if I had allowed her to sleep more and get back from the journey, she wouldn't have died.. Then, came the surge and left the next day...

I have not finished my story ooo

Then during the burial of my mom, on the night after her burial.. Her grave was near the window side of my room (the room is upstairs) around 2am or so, our dog started barking nonstop and because everyone was tired because of the days activities, nobody cared to come check what was wrong with the dog.. I was forced to wake up when the barking was coming from my window side and there was this cold feeling that I had immediately and I felt a presence within, I woke up and went to the verandah and lo and behold, I saw my mom standing (you can choose not to believe), but I doubt if she saw me, I ran downstairs to the place where I saw her but she wasn't there again.. I related everything to my dad and siblings and thank God, they are getting to believe me...

Hope I ain't boring you people with it sad... Indicate so I can continue about my encounter this year..

Before the 6 months memorial of my mom, I dunno whether it's because I was very much attached to my parents especially my mom as I am the last in the family, on 2 encounters, I was walking across a road, when I heard my mom's voice call out to me, at the 1st encounter, I didn't respond but just stopped to look around to know whether I can pick her out from the crowd, when the effort seems futile, I left, then on the 2nd encounter again, she called out to me again, I responded within and asked her if there's any problem, looked around again but couldn't find her.. I relayed the info to my dad and sibs as usual, they only advised me that I should always look out for myself when I'm not driving, maybe she is trying to safe me in harms way...

That reminds me, My mom died on 19th Oct 2018 at UCH, since I was the only one with her, I took it upon myself to bring her back to east the next day..... After everything was cleared and done, I was with the ambulance conveying her (just me and the yoruba guy) when all of a sudden, 2 bike men sprang out from nowhere and we had a head on collision, our car somersaulted so many times but we came out unscratched but the 2 bike men died instantly, this particular accident happened at ijebu ode (Saturday precisely around 8 am or so)... The youth of the village nearly lynched the driver and I and wanted to set ablaze my mom's corpse till police intervened, I thought my world would end that day.. (a native man my dad met told him the thing isn't ordinary, I will still come to that)..

After her memorial, science apart (sleep paralysis)... I had one on one encounter with a ghost, my brain was awake but I couldn't move my body, all of a sudden, I heard someone inside my toilet and bathroom, I tried getting up but I couldn't, I started asking who it was but didn't get any reply, all of a sudden, the curtains attached to my loo was moved over (it was too glaring) and whomever it was came and pinned my head down to the bed, I was struggling to save myself but I couldn't, I tried calling on God, I couldn't until I called on my mom and I quote 'Mum, don't allow me to die', at that moment, whatever it was released me and left same way it came in....

I had my 2nd encounter again, this time, the bulb in my room just bursted and I heard some movements in my kitchen, I just struggled to wake up and ran away from my house to my parents where I took my bath and Co....

But before this two encounters, after the burial, one old woman had approached me in the village and after the pleasantries (that their usual way of saying see how big one has grown) it was during one of the hugging that she mistakenly saw a knife injury I sustained on my palm that she saw the mark and said, I am ogbanje (reincarnated soul), I was angry with her but because the familiarity of the both families, I respected myself..

Lastly, in Igbo, we call it ịgba afa, my Dad took it upon himself to find out whom exactly I am, he wasn't around during my birth and early years (he was outside the country), he wanted me to come with him because he was once a traditional man and still believes in most of this mysteries though he is a Christian now, I rejected the offer (I don't want to begin waka this waka at this my early year biko).. So, when he came back, he told me that the man said the only one who has the answer to the question was my mom because there were alot of mysterious things that happened during my birth reason why I am experiencing all this... But lol, onye kwe, chi ya ekwe, I am a Christian but still I strongly believe in the mysteries and spirituality of the world.....

NB : The only gift I know that I am very good in, is the ability to tell the sex of an unborn baby... Which I have never for one day failed at it... Please i won't attend to anyone in this case biko....

I forgot to add that after the 1st encounter with the spirit which pinned me down, for the first time in my life, I had a 3 day non stop episodic headache, took malaria drug and Co but yet nothing happened till I told my priest friend who is aware of my predicament, he told me that I should use anointing oil which I did and that was the end of the headache..

In conclusion, I doubt if spirits move about at night like people assumed... I can categorically say that, they like serene environment especially during the day when everyone must have gone for their daily business

Should You Believe in Reincarnation?

THE Greek philosopher Plato connected falling in love with the idea of reincarnation. He believed that after the death of the body, the soul, being immortal, migrates to what has been called the “realm of the pure forms.” Bodiless, it remains there for some time, contemplating the forms. When it is later reincarnated into another body, the soul subconsciously remembers and yearns for the realm of forms. According to Plato, people fall in love because they see in their beloved the ideal form of beauty they vaguely remember and seek.

Identifying the Source and the Basis

The teaching of reincarnation requires that the soul be immortal. The origin of reincarnation, then, must be traced to those peoples or nations that held such a belief. On this basis, some think that it originated in ancient Egypt. Others hold that it got started in old Babylonia. To create prestige for the Babylonian religion, its priesthood advanced the doctrine of transmigration of the soul. They could thus claim that their religious heroes were reincarnations of notable, though long dead, ancestors.

It was in India, however, that belief in reincarnation came to full bloom. The Hindu sages were grappling with the universal problems of evil and of suffering among humans. ‘How can these be harmonized with the concept of a righteous Creator?’ they asked. They tried to resolve the conflict between God’s righteousness and the unforeseen calamities and inequalities in the world. In time, they devised “the law of karma,” the law of cause and effect—‘whatever a man sows, that shall he reap.’ They worked out a detailed ‘balance sheet’ whereby merits and demerits in one life are rewarded or punished in the next.

“Karma” simply means “action.” A Hindu is said to have good karma if he conforms to social and religious norms and bad karma if he does not. His action, or karma, determines his future in each successive rebirth. “All men are born with a blueprint of character, mainly prepared by their actions in previous lives, though their physical traits are determined by heredity,” says philosopher Nikhilananda. “A man is [thus] an architect of his own fate, the builder of his own destiny.” The ultimate goal, however, is to be liberated from this cycle of transmigration and be united with Brahman—the ultimate reality. This, it is believed, is achieved by striving for socially acceptable behavior and special Hindu knowledge.

The teaching of reincarnation thus uses as its foundation the doctrine of the immortality of the soul and builds on it using the law of karma. Let us see what God’s inspired Word, the Bible, has to say regarding these ideas.

Is the Soul Immortal?

To answer this question, let us turn to the highest authority on the subject—the inspired Word of the Creator. In the very first book of the Bible, Genesis, we learn the accurate meaning of “soul.” Regarding the creation of the first man, Adam, the Bible says: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) Clearly, the soul is not what a man has but what he is. The Hebrew word used here for soul is neʹphesh. It occurs some 700 times in the Bible, and it never refers to a separate and ethereal part of a human but always to something tangible and physical.—Job 6:7; Psalm 35:13; 107:9; 119:28.

What happens to the soul at death? Consider what happened to Adam at his death. When he sinned, God told him: “You [will] return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) Think of what that means. Before God created him from the dust, Adam did not exist. After his death, Adam returned to the same state of nonexistence.

Simply stated, the Bible teaches that death is the opposite of life. At Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, we read: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going.”

This means that the dead are unable to do or feel anything. They no longer have any thoughts, nor do they remember anything. The psalmist states: “Do not put your trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.”—Psalm 146:3, 4.

The Bible clearly shows that at death the soul does not move on to another body, but it dies. “The soul that is sinning—it itself will die,” the Bible emphatically states. (Ezekiel 18:4, 20; Acts 3:23; Revelation 16:3) Thus, the doctrine of the immortality of the soul—the very foundation of the theory of reincarnation—does not find any support in the Scriptures. Without it, the theory collapses. What, then, explains the suffering we see in the world?

I think this is a very good topic. Reading act 2, we see that God had promised Christ that He won't allow His body to rot in the grave so He rose Him up on the 3rd day His body didn't rot because he was embalmed. But why did Christ care if His body will rot in the grave or not, after all, his spirit and soul were now free and they are immortal? perhaps there's an attachment of all three, body, soul and spirit, they all like to be in the same place? when Christ died Matt 27, the word states that the saints who were resting rose again, entered the towns and people saw them. Did they rise up with rotten bodies? no way, their bodies were not rotten because people would be terrified of them, how come it wasn't if they had been there for a while? perhaps the ones who were still fresh? only God knows
