The Lagos State Government on Tuesday resumed the construction of the ten-lane Lagos-Badagry Expressway ten years after its commencement.

Performing the flag-off, the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, stated that the return to the road not only marks the fulfillment of a promise made during a recent visit on June 2, 2019, to the people of the State by the Sanwo-Olu Administration but is also designed to bring relief to commuters who experience hardship daily on the road.

Speaking at the site office of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), contractors to the project, the Deputy Governor noted that the Sanwo-Olu administration would honour all the promises made to Lagosians.

He further stated that the project covers specifically the Agboju to Trade Fair segment as well as the rehabilitation of the Eric Moore – Mile 2 stretch.

Hamzat said, “We must obey the law, citizens co-operation is critical to what successes we will be able to record during this tenure. We must also monitor the project and report progress and observations to us.”

Hamzat further commended the co-operation of the Federal Government as both the State and Federal Agencies will be present along the road up to the Seme border.

He explained that Lagos State is handling Eric Moore to Agboju while FERMA will do four-lane maintenance to Agbara while the Federal Government has awarded Agbara to Seme as a six-lane Highway.

He said the State Government will deploy Taskforce to clean up the area and ensure a free flow of traffic.

It should be recalled that the notion to expand the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, a major gateway connecting Nigeria and other neighbouring West African countries was conceptualized in 2009 by the Babatunde Raji Fashola administration to ease traffic in the region and upgrade the infrastructure from four (4) lane into ten (10) lane dual carriage.

It's a step in the right direction. But this Sanwo olu gra gra too much.
Imagine trying to arrest and seize bikes around mile2 tincan axis.. Why not wait till the roads are completed b4 enforcing okada ban there and some other unmotorable places.. When the road is good, The less reason to enter bike..

That means commuters will continue to endure the very bad portions of the road from Trade Fair to Iyana Iba.

Why would they flag off reconstruction of a road that is under construction? Kai Nigerian politicians with eye service and paparazzi this road has been the biggest scam of all time it's already 11years and counting. An honest government would complete the project in 7years at worst. The painful part about this country is that the only time we had serious minded projects that were conceptualized and completed in due time and with good quality was during the military regimes. These politicians are just greedy and selfish. I would not be surprised that the contract cost would have been reviewed countless times during the years prior to now. Our problem is that we have wicked leaders and stupid followers in this country. Everyone here is screaming developmental strides and I keep asking which developmental strides are we talking about. It is so bad that the major infrastructures in Lagos that have stood the test of time are those built during the military regimes when Lagos was the capital territory of Nigeria and also the infrastructure built by Lateef Jakande, then save for the few by Fashola. Why is It that Lagosians are not asking the right questions from these APC politicians?

It's so unfortunate we are having idiots as leaders and it's our collective error. How can a governor(Ambode) out of hatred for an individual (fashola) suffer millions of people and yet nobody can call him to order. The painful thing is that person still celebrate him. Sorry for us

4ck all the governors that have ruled Lagos in the past 10 years since the road construction started. angry

I traveled that road as a student in the sorry state it was back then and it was under construction. I've since graduated, completed nysc and even worked for few years and just few weeks ago I traveled that road it is still under construction and in a more sorry state than it was when I last traveled the same Road. In fact some part of the road have potholes so big a whole truck will get stuck.

Now look at this new unserious government cutting ribbon not to commission the completion of the road but just to continue from where the past two governors stopped. Smh

I know it's a federal road and all, but what exactly did Ambode do for 4 years that he didn't even get the FG which is now being piloted by someone from the same party?

How many years exactly does it take to construct a motorable road gan sef?

Later we will say Lagos is moving forward under the progressives, the question is how?

Who did we offend in this country?

Oga, mention the 'bad' Delta road you know.
Lagos - Badagry road will easily be voted the worst road in Nigeria today.
