This is for you. It's an experience of pompido in kiel.
There are 2 tertiary institutions in Kiel namely Christian Albrechts University and Fachhocschule Kiel (University of Applied Sciences) and both have great quality of education. CAU is the more recognized and highly rated of the 2 (Top 30 in Germany) wink but it is research based, so if this is your forte then by all means. If you are more practically oriented, IT systems development/business management and co that would grill you in readiness for the professional working life, then FH it is. This of course is based on perspective and of course do a proper research about your course of choice and its course contents especially (There can be serious K-Leg if you do the naija style of following the better named courses as them fit shock you when you enter grin).
Both schools are linked and so FH students have access to facilities at CAU like the Library, sports center, fitness center.etc. There is also the semester tickets that cover the whole of Kiel (train, ferries, buses). Only difference is that CAU students get a rebate on the direct bus to Hamburg airport (7euros instead of about 15euros and 12euros for the round trip). FH students have to pay the full charge but that is nothing to worry about because the airport is not a frequent trip and there are alternative ways of going on long trips for really cheap

teelaw4life: Good afternoon good people. Having gone through the posts, I'm about to start preparations for next year's summer (March) semester seeing as I'm late for 2019 winter.
I'm starting the process from scratch i.e. Toefl, transcript request etc.
Can anybody please help me with an estimate of the total amount I should expect to soend throughout the application process?
I kniw toefl is 72k, transcript request is about 35k but beyond those, I have no idea of how much I might need.
I'm asking because I'd like to know what I'm getting into and how much I need to put aside.
Thanks in advance. from my own side and its really what i did, i did not write TOEFL or IELTS i use language of instruction that i collected from my school and i did not apply through uniassit. i applied direct to schools that asked for direct application without uniassist. This is about Jena, thuringia. From Pauluche
Jena is NOT exactly the way people painted it. It is a city not some suburb. There are student jobs in Jena, Erfurt, Nora, Weimar to mention a few. All you require is good command of the German language. Without German knowledge, the probalilty of you getting a job in Jena is slim you may have to go out to the other cities which I mentioned earlier.
Having a student job here is more profitable than having it in the big cities. Why? On the average a prudent student will not spend more than 380-420 euros per month. House rent 180, insurance 83, feeding and other petty things make up the balance.
Now how many ''big cities'' can average that? I know of people who pay 450-550 euros per month on rent alone.
Even if you decide to not work, you can still save as much as 250 euros per month.
Finally most Nigerians and indeed Africans in Jena have jobs. We all know the nature of student jobs.
I know of a friend who borrowed 1.4million naira. He earns around 400-450 euros per month from his mini job. As I write this, he has been able to send 4600 Euros home in the space of seven months! How did he do it? He's been living on his earnings and hasn't touched the money in his block account for seven months!
Anyone who hasn't gotten a Job since they got here probably haven't put in enough effort in getting one or they have no knowledge of German.
I recently decided to prove to myself that there are jobs in this city by going out in search of a job. There was virtually no place I stopped by that they didn't consider giving me a mini job so what are we saying?
Conclusively, if you are to risk borrowing, ensure that: You are knowledgeable in German. You have a fair idea of the job condition in that city
The city you intend to live in is relatively inexpensive.
Hadampson! Hadampson!! Hadampson!!! How many times i call u You are the main man! It seems you have a compilation of posts about the various cities. You have been most helpful, bro. Please, refer me to a post about Baden-Wutterburg. My eyes are there. Thanks bro 2 Likes |

Only difference is that CAU students get a rebate on the direct bus to Hamburg airport (7euros instead of about 15euros and 12euros for the round trip). FH students have to pay the full charge but that is nothing to worry about because the airport is not a frequent trip and there are alternative ways of going on long trips for really cheap prices.
Housing is kind of reasonable here though it could easily become a nightmare (as moi experienced). The studentenwerk handle student accommodation for both schools and there are cheap to mid-priced rooms available (availability is higher in the summer as there are less applicants and intakes in both universities). Early application is usually the best thing to do but there are also other options that would suffice till one finds right footing.
Working as a student here is just like any city in Germany, available but conditional. Ability to speak the language even if it is the pidgin version (like Williamso would call his) would make things a bit easier. Another thing is that everyone needs to realize that you have to bear your cross and so do your own research, ask questions and talk to people about what you need. For example, when we got to Kiel, we were played all the work stuffs and what we needed to do to start engaging (mostly meant that we would wait a few months). The funny thing is that when men started digging, stuffs that even those we met here didn't know about were available and now they kind of say we came and raised the ginger level. Hustle is usually at its peak in the summer months (In Kiel, the Kieler Woche is it for men ooo, we die well )
Yes, you have to worry about your next renewal as Kiel only gives a year's permit but still egal as you will learn....... (open ended tins)
Abeg bring your food oo,as much as you can carry so you get to ease yourself into the bread/potatoes eating mentality here and of course save yourself some cents by eating in. There are afro-asian stores here so noodles, titus, kote, croaker fishes are available. same with palm oil, plantain, yams et al.
There is a strong Nigerian community here starting with the Nigerian Students' Association to the Nigerians in Kiel Association (them dey host very bad party every December), so you are sure to get all the help you need right from naija.
# For more information about the city, contact pompido, aibee01, topeajis and willy2000.

Hi Intending Potsdamers, This is for your orientation. Potsdam is a capital city. Just about 15 mins to Berlin. Its not a super interesting place to live in; - It's a major abode of old and aged people who can't keep up with the youthful life style of Berlin. So they migrate to Potsdam cos it's kinda peaceful. - The houses a quite cheap but very hard to find. Ranging from 270 upwards. Depends on your choice of apartment and what you are looking for. - No tourist or recreation places to visit. Speaking from personal view, clubs are also hard to find (clubs are the major places to have fun, as far as i know) People mostly go to berlin to have fun. It's not like there's fun there sha. - if you mingle with the right people, potsdam could be fun for you. - UniPotsdam student ID covers transportation in Berlin and Brandenburg. (yes, you can move upandan fr free in these places) - German foods are blank. No spice, no taste, total waste of energy and emotions. - Nobody cares about you, so mind your business. Even if you fall from a stairs - they wouldn't care, it's not their business especially when your skin is black. But some people could care though. - No one cares about your dressing as well - but it could pose a sort of attraction when you wear some pretty short dresses (i mean extra short and revealing) cos of your black skin. People literally look at you in disgust and become ashamed on your behalf. Although, right now, alot of people are walking about shirtless and bras alone. Wch is kind of a soothing sight to behold.. Even when they are not endowed - Education is quite cool. Depends on your program. Mine is okay but very intensive. (you can't select how many courses to take in a semester - means that you spend exactly 2 years.. Except if you fail. And if you try to prolong the program.. People won't take you seriously cos also all the professors can recognise you. Especially during labs cos we're less than 25) In some program, you can select and even prolong the duration of your program till Jesus Christ comes. -Different faculties in different campus. E.g. Art and languages are in main campus AM neuen palais. - Work is very very hard to get.. If you don't know German. Tbvh. Except you go to Berlin. Wch is not so far. But still hard to get kn berlin as well. It's good to know German. It's the in-thing now to get a job. - Afro stores are available as well. Berlin and Potsdam. But bring your food (it can't be overemphasised. Especially when they sell packet of Maggi here for 5€.) - oh yes.. Resident permit is 1yr. Yes.. 1 yr. That meins you have to blocked your account again or show some funds in your account for renewal of the permit. I don't know how much exactly. - people move to Berlin cos of this. Berlin gives 2yrs. But housing is freaking expensive there. About 400€ upwards. Then you have to move from Berlin to Potsdam fr classes - close to 30-45 mins depending on where you are. - Sadly, i know nothing about Brandenburg or cottbus. Even though part of the region in Potsdam. I hope this helps. Pm your questions or ask them here. PS.. I could reply late. 22 Likes 2 Shares |

I want to drop this off my chest.
Please, before bringing any news here make sure you verify the authenticity.
Many of us are victims of last month misinformation that made us cancel our appointments and now getting another date seems like what I don't know(very depressing thing) Yesterday in the group someone posted GUYS CHECK YOUR MAILS DATES ARE ROLLING OUT. this turned out to be false. Many people were running helter skelter to check their mails... At the end of the day I found out that it was just one person that got the AD and it was in Abuja.
Another one said a gal was turned back because she booked category A because she couldn't provide full univ transcripts(dem say dem say, you were not there)
Please, I don't want to hear SOMEONE SAID, SOMEONE DID THAT. I'm not saying we should not share but please verify..... 3 Likes |
