People could listen to you talk (or let you talk) out of respect and not necessarily because of thhe wisdom in what you say. Same way you just have to listen to a superior or parent talk, even if they aren't making sense.

I only get to see this show at night, but I could tell, especially from his session that he isn't one of the smartest people around, judging by his ability to convey information.

You could be mentally, emotionally and intellectually strong without being intelligent , these are merely behavioral and points to a strength in character and composure.

Personally, when I listen to people talk, I look beyond the accent, gesticulations, voice and focus on the substance.
