It's for money laundering

Example you as a governor want to hide N2 billion you diverted from your state from efcc so you open a front company and list importation as the business using fake names

The so called company can set about importing anything from pens to water now cost for important is let's say $2000 for water in your books you put tractors and engine parts at $100,000 for projects in xyz state

These items are usually abandoned all they need is the paper work

It's all political.money laundering

News like this makes me ask if we Nigerians are ready to move our country forward. While we hold leadership accountable, citizens must live up to their responsibilities. To attempt to clear rotten fish into the market is a big shame.
Imagine someone importing water into Nigeria ! I learnt that most of those imports were to launder illicit/drug money.
so you believe this people? Money never enter hand

How will the fish not spoil with all the stress involved in clearing containers?

This shows that so many Nigerians are absolutely clueless and have no idea whatsoever how certain things work.
Items like fish, fresh vegetables, and the likes are loaded into specially built containers.
By your warped logic, if it spoil due to time to clear container, why did it not spoil during its 1 month+ voyage?
smh!

Always deceiving public, how can 21 containers of fish spoil? Which country ship the fish without export quality check. Nigeria officers think they can deceive everyone. The real truth here is that the particular importer is not suppose to import the fish because there are already known big importers in government that believe the frozen fish business is reserve for them alone. Instead of you to import and make big profit, you should come to them and buy the one they import and make penult as profit, that way the NAFDAC and custom can guild the containers till you finish selling all. This is real problem that hinder average youth to grow economy higher, because they can use union to make you remain in one level by stealing money you suppose to go home with at end of your business in the name of paying union fees, then if you raise money somewhere else and import the goods they send signal to custom, nafdac or other agent to ceased your goods or container to make sure you remain slave in the business or you quite. This is reason many youth fall out of many business and become jobless.

I distwith with you Wait first what did you register your company for and secondly when you want go and register with custom what did you tell them you want to be importing and how long has he been on the see before you clear it because frozen food don't stay long for clearing on port I know that and even sheep that is coming to Nigeria custom already know that frozen food are coming just for NAFDAC to do there own checking so it didn't concern custom again so far you have already register and inform them concerning association when you are in Rome you also behave like a roman so far you know the rules and regulations why can't you follow it or leave those that already in the business alone or you think you can just break the market like that abi sorry is not done anywhere like that

You are correct on this. I remember during Goodluck Jonathan tenure, a young man imported cement and the NPA seized it, during his findings he learnt dangote was behind it. After series of meetings and begging he was told either forfeiture or receiving the face value of the goods he should choose one. The guy choose the later, got into debt and almost gone bankrupt.

All these monopolistic businessmen in Nigeria will always be there to make things difficult for an average Nigerian who wants to make it legitimately. it's either they spoon feed you or shut you off.

You are very correct.

To make a container of frozen fish get rotten in Nigeria port, they simply remove the electricity supply to the frozen fish container.

So in this case, they probably had removed electricity supply to all the 21 containers and this can only have happened at the Nigerian port.

This is obviously not true and can’t happen. No terminal operator will willfully cut off supply to the refer containers at the terminal. Each of those containers carry temperature reading device and the point of drop in temperature can easily be read, such terminal operator will pay seriously for such

You guys should stop sounding like illiterates, this is one of the thing killing this platform, people with barely any knowledge of an issue trying to confuse people

It has not nothing to do with *stress of clearing containers*

Either it’s already gone bad from country of supply, storage problem on the vessel transporting the containers or power problem at the port of discharge ( Tin Can )

Obviously it’s not a container problem as 21 reffers can’t go bad on one consignment

Cold room container problem

Re: NAFDAC Intercepts 21 Containers Of Spoilt Frozen Fish In Lagos by majamajic(m): 10:21am On Jul 05, 2019
too bad,

I think the fish got spoilt here in Nigeria

1, lack of electricity to the containers
2, delay in clearing

one way or the other the seized fish will still find its way back into the market !!!

Because they know most Nigerians have inferior complex... once product is from outside the country to them it's the best.

It is simply incomprehensible that the importer will import 21 containers containing rotten frozen fish.

At which point did the fish get rotten?

A Reefer vessel will always maintain a Reefer container at the required temperature for the duration of sea passage.

Any departure from maintaining the correct temperature means the frozen fish getting rotten poses a major health hazard.

Whilst the Terminal operator may not willfully cut of power supply, they rely on Epileptic power supply by PHCN. No light from PHCN means no light to Reefer containers at the Port.

Too bad, some of these countries come to our waters in the ocean, catch the fishes and take it back to their home countries to process and we go back to them and import, very pathetic.
Imagine importation of bottled water too, if it's possible for Nigerians to import air that they breathe, they'd gladly do so because it's imported air. We love everything imported

And the importer(s)of these fish were thinking of profits over human lives they were going to endanger! angry

The Indians are the major supplier of frozen fish and some of them are mischievous, some bring these rotten fish, freeze them and repack. Some of the fish we eat in canteens are spoilt ones. Some got spoilt as a result of epileptic power supply to their cold rooms. The Hausa people that now hawk fried fish only patronize the spoilt one because they buy them cheaply and sell to the unsuspecting populace. We're into frozen fish business so I know better.

our love for imported things is just too much that is one of the main reason why the country is short of employment opportunities, for a business man especially those rich business men and women this country especially the rich billionaires who are Ijaws who call themselves king and queens of water without a fishing vessel, they left that aspect of the economy to local fisher men who catch in small quantities in their locally made boats, what about if a buoyant business man sponsor an exploration of Nigeria water to know the species of fishes available and quantities, purchase a small fishing vessel for a start catch big and sell to Nigerians we consume crazy amount of fishes in this country daily not to talk of yearly our water is not well explored or should I say it has not been explored at all other countries not African countries go to their fishing shores and see the way they run fishing and fishing business you will be amazed, there is a program on Natgeo about fishing if you watch and see how they run the business and the prices of some species of fishes in unit are sold to big hotels and restaurants you would wonder if it is cocaine they want to sell I have not left the shores of the country but they have several times and eaten expensive sea foods they know the deal it won't hurt if you take a step in a business direction that has not been tapped or less tapped compared to what it could offer
