Please the seniors in the house, what city has more engineering opportunities (to be specific chemical engineering or oil and gas related)

Alberta and Saskatchewan are the oil producers. Don't be afraid to switch jobs.

Hotstepper, sorry to overstep as this has been addressed before on nairaland.
The catholic school boards accross Canada have different rules. Take the case of London, Ontario for instance. You have a French Catholic school board and an English catholic school board in this city. Each one of those school boards has its own set of rules.
Anyone can enroll their child in a French catholic school in London. A baptismal certificate isn't required by the French Catholic school board. However, to enroll a child in an English catholic school in London, the parent will need to provide a baptismal certificate.

In short, there isn't one set of rules for all Catholic schools even within the same city. Also, Keep in mind that there can be more than 1 English Catholic school board or French Catholic school board in a given city.

So, the best thing to do would be to identify all the catholic school boards in a city and then to call each one of them to inquire if a baptismal certificate is needed

Are you in London?

Have you gotten a request letter yet?

Hopefully they would get back to you soon with new PPR for you and your spouse.

Yes I got a request letter asking for the following

30$ re-issue visa fee
Schedule A
Additional family info
Spousal Application Kit (No links)
Processing fee & RPRF fee for spouse

Hello everyone, i am new to this thread, really i have been thinking of relocating but the fear of leaving my job and relocating is just the obstacle here. i am married with a child, but i just don't want to relocate with my family and then put them in a situation where we start struggling. i am a professional, i once moved to the UK for my master after which i got a job but during the recession was laid off and had to restore to doing a care job which i did for one year and moved back to Nigeria where i got a job. So this is what i am trying to avoid, please is there anyone out there that could be of guide i will really appreciate it.

Oga, if i have to be honest with you. I will advise you forget about oil and gas jobs for now and switch to other career /sector as long as this pipeline crisis is still going on in Canada if you are interested in migrating to Canada. Imagine WCS dropped to as low as $8 last year but thank God its now around $45 though still at a discount to WTI. Its because of this oil and gas job prospects situation i have been statlling in migrating to Canada because i have been finding it difficult to let go of a job with net salary of $110k CAD equivalent in Middle East as a Petroleum Engineer and migrate to Canny land with my family. Hopefully, if i can achieve my financial goals asap i can revisit this Canny stuffs.
Please kindly do your due diligence and i believe other ogas in this thread can add their input.

Hehe, so you are looking for a 110k Cad net pay before you move to Canada? OYO

Comparing apples and oranges, what middle East gives is completely different from what Canada will give you. It's not everything that you quantify. Brah, benefits of moving outweigh 10-30k cad difference.

FYI, some of us in the same middle East have our net pay above that figure you want, but, yeah, we are ready to move. Personally, I think one can hit above that amount overtime, and at the same time get other benefits that you can't really quantify.

I know but looking at the risk/rewards it doesn't make sense yet when i see the rate at which IOC's are pulling out/ divesting from Canada tar sands and the rate at which some of my friends living in Nisku and Alberta are planning to come to Middle East to take up jobs. I had to have a rethink ooo.A senior friend had to leave USA to take up a job in Middle East for half salary of what he used to earn in Texas before losing his job. He had no option than to take the job because he was about losing his mortage house when he ran out of funds. A friend was out of job for almost a year and half in Nisku and was shocked when he told me he is ready to come to Oman to take up a net pay of 5,000 USD monthly as a drilling Engineer, this is a salary i cant even take despite the guy having more oil and gas experience than me.
I have made up my mind to zero my mind off oil and gas jobs if i will be migrating to Canada. Yeah, you are right that some of you people have more than that has i have colleagues earning an equivalent net pay of $300k CAD and i have seen people in such category move but mind you i can't move because they moved since i dont know how deep their financial buffers is and the more reason i have to do my cost benefit analysis well to avoid the story that touches the heart. What pained me most now is, if i should leave my job, it will be very difficult to get a similar pay considering the ridiculous pay employers are throwing at Pet Engrs these days due to glut of Pet engrs in d market and i can't blame them as its due to the thinning of profit margins as a result of oil price crash. Even here in Middle East, people that are rehired lately are being offer less pay and they tell you, you either take it or leave it. Infact, they are now getting smarter not to make them employees by offering them consultant position just to cut cost. These are my reasons for my fear of leaving my job to consider migration for now until i reach my financial goals with enough buffers boss. Anyway, nothing is cast on stone as due diligence is very important while taking such a decision.

Hi guys, I'm traveling in two weeks.. I'd like to know if one is to bring in all the settlement funds. Or is it allowed to bring say 50% and show proof for the rest which would be in TBills. The half I want to take along would last me quite a while as accommodation and transportation is sorted. Thanks.

You have a point though, ready to go back to school? Adopt this tactic, go get an MBA from a top school in Canada (say Rotman or Ivey), then switch to Investment Banking or Asset Management, post MBA. Finance is fvcking rewarding in North America, guys in that space (post MBA) take home minimum of 120 cad (excluding Bonus). Mind you, a top MBA is very important!

Thanks boss for this info. I will note this down and put it in my plans. No be my fault that i am trying to be over careful, its because of so many dependants that i have and need to support monthly while also struggling for my own financial goals. Some may balme me while i am supporting people, its because i was also supported by a maternal uncle right from JS2 up to Msc level abroad. So i have to also give back to others.
Btw is the 120k CAD gross or net as you know in Middle East, gross is net as we don't pay tax.

That's net Bro. I kid you not! I have guys working with firms located on Bay Street taking home 250cad annually. Everything is about strategy and maybe some element of luck.

Middle East is not a bad place, but that region does not have the soul I really need to see, moreso, it's tough to become a PR. I know UAE won't even try it, except you have HUGE investments.

And I agree with you on the 'give back' stuff, very important!

Wow, dats awesome net pay in Cannyland. You are absolutely right, Middle East is not a place to plan long term because you can never get Citizen status and the more reason i am just staying till i get a better offer or something in the range then i leave and never look back. I have been battling with this migration challenges for almost 5 years now and what even made my stalling worse was when a white Canadian colleague was laid off in 2016 from my company and was just rehired back Jan this year to the Middle East as a consultant with just 60% of what he used to earn then before he was laid off and now very calm and sober compared to what he was known for before laid off. I was shocked when he told me he was at home for over a year with no job and bills to pay and telling me he can't complain now even if they give him a lot of sh*t as he now know what it means to be out of job. This is a Canadian guy from Edmonton and not an immigrant. Then i realized i have to fight for financial independence first before anything as life could be miserable and depressing irrespective of where one lives if someone doesn't have the financial muscle to live a good life. The 1st priority in life is food, shelter, clothes and sex for all human being, then after achieving that, we start looking for security of lives and other things. This is the more reason while capitalist invests in a war prone/torne countries because their goal is profits before any other thing.

It is allowed to bring a part but you must have a way to prove you really do have the money back home as they occasionally ask for proof. I even advice leaving some back home if you have family ties there. You wouldnt have to look for who to exchange with when you need to send money back home to them. Also, you can sell at a better rate to individuals over time as compared to bringing in USD and converting at ridiculous rates with banks here.

Thanks smartkester for pointing this out, i just noticed i actually misconstrued you for the guy as you were the one asking about oil and gas related jobs. Think old age don dey set in for me oo or i need to see my optometrist. Anyway, i will advise you look into Renewable energy related jobs and co as i guess oil and gas jobs does not worth it anymore in my own opinion especially in Canny land with high cost of production which resulted to thinning of profit margins by IOC's.

Landing gist
I have always been encouraged by the landing stories i have read here and believe its only fair i share mine.

Got hungry, thank God i brought some snacks and yoghurt cos wasnt in the mood for the food. It wasnt so bad just didnt feel like eating their food, hubby and son ate most of the food. Son ate mostly the chicken and bread and lots of biscuit. Mercifully he slept thru most of the flights. Hubby handled all the toilet breaks for him and he was good. That was a life saver for me. As for me, just like u are told to note all the emergency exits in the plane i noted all the toilet locations on the plane as a frequent flyer(visitor grin). I drank only water on the plane and a lot of it which helped. Another great thing was having compression socks on. It was a great relief for me. Even though i shouted when i had to pay 10k for them, they were worth it. We finally landed at toronto. By this time i was tired of flying and just cldnt wait to get off the plane.

.

do the airlines allow yoghurt and snacks in handbags or carry on bags?

Hello Salford & other gurus in the house
Please I want to ask based in the construction jobs mentioned below , which of the provinces in terms of ease of getting a job would you recomment to a couple of construction project manager background and hr experiences.
Thanks in advance
salford:

They have very similar cost of living.

As per jobs, depends on your field. There are more IT and construction jobs in Saskatoon. Saskatoon is a little more populated. However, there are lots of administration jobs in Regina being the provincial capital. Generally speaking, for a good shot at decent jobs, I would think Regina, for aethestic purpose, I would choose Saskatoon. Both cities are similar. It's like comparing Edmonton to Calgary.

Do you think having a bank statement handy (showing transfer of funds to an investment company) and a letter from the same company stating their client has said funds in their "care" would suffice?
