skypper:
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, have jointly called on Nigerians to defend their ancestral home lands against the Federal Government proposed RUGA cattle settlements.
This was made known in a communiqué issued yesterday to highlight details of a meeting between the monarch and Novel Laureate at his (Soyinka’s) home in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The meeting was centred on the state of the nation.

Oba Ogunwusi and Soyinka, in the communiqué, said their call on Nigerians to defend themselves became crucial as the Coalition of Northern Groups gave a 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to pass the Ruga project for Fulani herders despite being suspended after many Nigerians went against it.

The report read: “In this regard, the recent ultimatum delivered by a sectarian order to the President of this nation to set up the so-called Ruga cattle settlements across the entire nation within a stipulated time, despite the national outcry, should be acknowledged as an entitlement under the bounty of freedom of expression.

“In return, we exercise ours and call upon Nigerian nationals across state demarcations to defend the sanctity of their ancestral lands. This birthright has never been annulled, not even under colonial occupation.

“Among such issues of urgent import are the ongoing insurrectional movements that derive from religious fanaticism and intolerance, exemplified by Boko Haram and allied tendencies, as well as aspects of commercial enterprise.
“In which some groups consider themselves especially privileged, singular, and above the laws and entitlements that are binding on other sectors of commercial and industrial undertaking. We have in mind destructive forms of social transactions that characterise groups such as nomadic cattle herdsmen, and their umbrella groupings in the nature of Myetti Allah.

“We confess ourselves increasingly distressed and appalled, that the hitherto harmonious cohabitation, even routine collaboration, among the productive arms of society that Nigerians have taken for granted even from pre-colonial times, have deteriorated to unprecedented levels of barbarity, contempt for human lives and a defiant trampling on the civic entitlements of other productive sectors such as farmers, the providers of both food and cash crops.

“This abhorrent, yet consistent pattern of sectarian, and homicidal arrogance is obviously not merely counter-productive but inhuman, criminal and divisive.

“We consider it a primary imperative of national existence that the constitutive parts of the nation take steps to preserve and enhance their distinct cultural identities, including tested and relevant pre-colonial values, their spiritual apprehension of phenomena and worship, all without detriment to the principles and ideals of mutual co-existence.
“To this end, we undertake to create state-of-the-art ethnic museums for our people both at home and in the Diaspora, where present and future generations can access their histories and cultures vividly, as living expressions of their very humanity, not simply as relics of eras vanished forever or irrelevant to the present,” the communiqué added.

1. Have you ever accused the fulani of this same disrespect since they have their Sarkins all over the country where they are found in large numbers? The Sarkin Fulani of Lagos (the former FCT) formed a major dicourse in the past week...
2. Has any Eze Ndi Igbo come out to contest or rub shoulders with the Obas and Ooni and other recognised and respected traditional rulesrs in the SW? Has any Igbo man anywhere asked any SW state governor or Yorubas generally to recognise Eze Ndi Igbo as one of the chiefs in Yoruba land?
3. When your leaders and state governors want to interface with other ethnic groups in their domains and vice versa, how do you think it is facilitated? By contatcting them all individually or throough their recognised leaders? Eze Ndi Igbo outside Igbo land is no king but just a leader/rallying point of Igbos in that region. What is the fear?
3. Are you aware that you also have Oba Yoruba in other states in Nigeria? Are you also being disrespenctful? If you are not aware, educate yourself...
4. No man's land comment, has it ever divested any Yoruba of his abcestral heritage? Has any Igbo man in the SW lifted even a stone talkless of arms to enforce a 'no-man's-land' policy and driven any yoruba out of his or her land/property/home?
5. Have you heard, perceived or seen any Igbo man demand compulsory settlement in any part of yoruba land as a matter of right and entitlement without complying with the rules/laws of the host community or sttae government?

Calmly answer these questions then ask yourself whether this disrespect y'all claim is real or a figment of your imagination.

Igbos migrate strictly for business and pay their way through. Has any Igbo man destroyed another person's property or business, massacred and raided communities or killed people in any part of Nigeria just so his own can thrive? The answer is a resounding no and that cannot be said for the fulani. You cannot compare the commercial activities of the Igbo that start from scratch to build with any help he can get to the fulani herdsmen that express an entitlement and right to all parts of Nigeria with unbridled murder and destruction, leaving disaster in their stead. Is it a crime for the Igbo man to own property out of mutual, private business between himself and others? Mutual benefits were derives, why begrudge the Igbo man his whilst you fail to see that the yoruba seller for instance also made a lot of money from that transaction? Can the same be said of the fulani herdsmen?

The Igbo man is not your enemy, stop and think. We have a common enemy, even the Ooni has recognised the problems of expansionist fulani herdsmen.

Shut up there!
You have ibos all over Nigeria and in every village you have built enclaves where you trade. You even carry it around as a sign of pride for your enterprising nature. Tell us why your land is not available to fulani to build his trade as an entrepreneir?

I used to think like u but then i realized the foolishness in it, the cowardice. It's not about money or land its a lot more than that. Its about preserving our lineage, fighting for our rights, securing the future, protecting our children and generational heritage, preserving what our great ancestors lived and died for... Running away to another man's country will not help us. Even if u eventually become nationalized there and your children do not know about their origin because u decided to keep it that way, believe it or not one day they will ask questions and begin to trace their steps back and if they do eventually only to find out they were marginalized due to certain events and inaction by their forefathers at a time in history which now leaves them no place because their tribe/ group has become insignificant.. Can u imagine how they would look at ur old broken tombstone ?
people that asked u to fight where are their kids? let me tell u Nigeria is a colonial mistake like soyinka rightfully said I can tell you categorically that Nigeria can only be better or good if we experience another civil war or we better still we break d country if not d children or generations u so much care about Wil keep on fighting

Bottom line is that the learned habit of hating on the Igbo just because is what has played out here. As long as the ownership of any land by the Igbo in yoruba land was not by govermnment demand/policy but by mutual, valid exchange of value and simple business/commercial ventures, your arguments hold no water. Sayonara!

By your logic, If the fulanis buy the land whether it was bought for them or they paid for it themselves, they can do what they want. There you go again displaying the exact mentality that makes you terrible visitors. Not everything is about property and money.... that's why everywhere you settle not just in Nigeria you cause friction!!! Respest your hosts, it's a simple concept!!!!

No one owes you any respect as far as the right to life, property and business ownership in line with the law are upheld at all times. Igbos will not stop having leaders and representatives by whatever name/title outside Igbo land and neither will your own people stop too. It is a normal behaviour anywhere; there are Nigerian groups outside the country too. Your concept/idea of respect just stinks of hypocrisy. No government should ever support or project or favour one tribe over another! If you cannot see and understand this without drawing baseless comparison with the life and business of the Igbo man, you have a long way to go.

Of course it is a thing of great pride and achivement! Who wouldn't be happy at doing good or being successful? Is that not what we all strive for? Did your government ever come to any community of yours to demand land for the Igbo man? If no, it will not happen in Igbo land that FG will demand or appropriate land for another tribe especially one known for destruction and killing. If you don't value your lives, we do ours and good enough your leaders are wiser than you are and that is why they have unequivovally condemned the fulani ruga crap. An entrepreneur owns and funds his business, what is the role of the FG in the fulani man's business? Did Igbo man not pay for whatever land he has?

Re: Ruga: Ooni Of Ife, Wole Soyinka Tell Nigerians To Defend Their Ancestral Lands by studentofTruth: 6:27pm On Jul 08, 2019
The Nigerian problem is the Yoruba dichotomy and Islamic hegemony
A Yoruba Muslim would sacrifice his ethnicity for his religion, so he invariably will be on the side of fellow Muslims — the northerners. That's, he would rather be on the side of northern Muslim than fellow Yoruba who's a Christian.

A Yoruba Christian, on the other hand, will sacrifice his religion for his ethnic group, so he would rather side with a fellow Yoruba (who's a Muslim) than a fellow Christian from other regions.

So muslim northerners draw Yoruba Muslims to their side, and the Yoruba Muslims in turn draw their fellow Yorubas who are Christians. The result is that the balance is tipped to the North Muslim. The Southerners are left thinking and shouting Yoruba betrayal. It's not their fault. It's just nature — blood is thicker than water and religion breaks bonds, just that Christianity can't!

Until the Yoruba Muslims seize to stand with Buhari and his agenda, the northerners will keep having it their way.

Secondly, how is this going to work....are they gonna be confined in that space and not go about cos the grass there will finish and the next thing the idiots will do is start moving about again.. I mean...it’s not like they are gonna get 300million acres

Lol... The grass there would finish...

Your post really cracked me up because you are actually trying to give the government a benefit of doubt...

RUGA is Fulani word which means encampment, the government was not planning to invest 1 kobo in those land... Just get a large piece of land, put them Fulani there, Fulani do what they know how to do best Massacre.. They call it reprisal attack...

All in all in a dumb Idea of dominating Nigeria with the sword.

That's how them fulani roll all over africa..
Same tactics same pattern same failure... At the end like the case Central Africa Republic, Mali they end up been massacre in retailation when their atrocity becomes unbearable.
