forgiveness: I mean long aerial balls. When you send them to Chukwueze his control is superb. The ball sticks to his feet. I wonder how he developed such professional first touch at such a young age. Ighalo, Musa etc often have poor first touches. I have not even seen Mikel or Ndidi control the ball the way Chukwueze does. I observed this long ago. 1 Like |

After seeing that picture of offside VAR overlooked, i wonder how some people still argued that the SA player was not offside The ref was too lazy to go check the VAR monitor and the VAR room refused to show the position of the players as at the time the ball was kicked by Tau Thank you OP for uploading that pic which shows VAR can be used to defraud teams irrespective of protests. I remember one of our players pleading with the ref to go take a look at the VAR monitor but the dumb ref refused and gave the goal. VAR must be neutral by showing all angles to the goal instead of focusing on the latter part. |

Mickael2: my guy, the player was in the box for the sole purpose of getting on the end of the set piece and to you he wasn't interfering with play? na wa o. so does this mean that until the ball reaches your leg you are not interfering with play and cannot be called offside? What is the reason the linesman's flag was ignored by the ref when he flagged the offside at least 2/3 seconds before the ball hit Ighalo? I like a debate but i don tire so no more from me on the matter. I think we have all shared our views well enough for the understanding by either school of thought. That we continue disagree cannot be helped. |

forgiveness: No its not. Events overruled the snapshot position when the ball bounced off Ighalo. Ighalo literally passed the ball to the Southie player who scored. |

Mickael2: The moment the ball was kicked, he moved towards the ball and that should have been counted as offside. It shouldn't have been after it landed on Ighalo's back. 4 Likes

wayodude: As a final word. For a set piece there are two sets of people, those who go to contest for the ball and those who wait for a flick on or a knockdown. Now you may be in the box but your movement is away from the ball anticipating where the flick on would land then that means you were not interfering with the ball when the freekick was taken but your interference starts during the second sequence of events, that is when the flick on was made and you start moving towards where it will land. The second set of people are the ones that actually go to flick the ball on. Those are the ones actively interfering with play. Now back to the case study, the dude who was offside was in the box yes, but he respectfully told himself the truth and ran away from the ball towards the back post hoping he would no longer be offside during the second sequence. So in that case was he interfering with play? No. 1 Like |

breezy147: The moment the ball was played, he already challenge for the ball in an offside position. The other events can't overrule that fact. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 10:50am On Jul 11, 2019 |
breezy147: Thank you. When someone plays a freekick you don't just flag any player who is in the box offside. As a matter if fact some players stand in an offside position deliberately when a freekick is taken then they move backwards hoping for a knockdown. This guy here moved towards the back post waiting for a flick on, he had no business with the freekick, I don't know why that is so hard to understand 1 Like |

komekn: Coming from the number 1 hypocrite on this thread. You have several times belittled Chukwueze's talents, labelled Osimhen a super flop and always had an unkind word for every promising Nigerian youngster not English born and you now wanna take the high horse of "caring for the lad"? Chriskels is right about this: anyone still taking you seriously is really as hypocritical as you are. Chuks' performance and Osimhen's rise are victories for we the true fans who believed in them and had kind words for them from the beginning not for you who changes words as a chameleon changes color.... 5 Likes 3 Shares

Offside offence A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or interfering with an opponent by: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball *The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used or gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has: rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent been deliberately saved by any opponent A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save by any opponent) is not considered to have gained an advantage. A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area). In situations where: a player moving from, or standing in, an offside position is in the way of an opponent and interferes with the movement of the opponent towards the ball this is an offside offence if it impacts on the ability of the opponent to play or challenge for the ball; if the player moves into the way of an opponent and impedes the opponent's progress (e.g blocks the opponent) the offence should be penalised under Law 12 a player in an offisde position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence an offence is committed against a player in an offside position who is already playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the offside offence is penalised as it has occurred before the foul challenge Cc forgiveness wayodude |

oloriooko: You are very wrong on the final assertion that the RSA player's goal was not offside. The fact that the final touch on the ball was made by the Eagle's player negates the offside act of the RSA player. An Eagle's player cannot claim an offside when his back pass to the goalkeeper is intercepted halfway by an RSA player. However you could be correct VAR is a tool destined to destroy soccer. It is an oppressive and colonial tool which is designed to defraud teams with good prospects in a competition. 1 Like |

forgiveness: I can't believe this Is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball? That SA player was moving towards the far post without any intention of playing the ball na. Haba, he was not the one that contested for the ball with Ighalo, he was not obstructing Ighalo and he did not have any intention of playing the ball rather he got involved in the second sequence of events which started from when his teammate contested with Ighalo and he sent the ball backwards to him. |
