You've had your challenges
Finish with the 3rd Class. Graduate and go for International Certification Courses with Cisco, Oracle, Python and Java. When you're done, you'll be of more value than the 1st Class or 2nd Class holders in the IT World. Having a B.Sc only gets you so far, what else will you offer your employers.
Only Nigeria places so much importance on B.Sc grades (that aren't even up to standard abroad).
I think it is not really about value for the young man now...I feel he doesn't want to have 3rd class associated with his history while relishing it 40 years later. So, let him take your counsel by finishing first, then, he should return to correct that degree. His ego would want a corrected degree... Encourage him to do so so that he won't regret it later howbeit successful.

computer science doesn't really need ur grade or degree all that matters most is to look for money to do different course.

Does class of degree actually determine your success in Nigeria? I don't think so brother. Pls don't get me wrong, am not glorifying academic laziness. Brother I will advise you to pull up your self and start right now with what ever class of degree you graduated with. Build connection and link up with people that can help your dream and the sky shall be your limit. Am currently working with one of the highest paying agency in Nigeria with a 2:2 degree and have seen many of my mate that graduated with 2:1 still searching for job. Baba pray for destiny helper!!!!

my advice is just try and complete the computer science degree, whether you grad with third class does not matter. Once you finish go for a professional computer program like networking example CCIE or programming or microwave or security and hacking programs. Just goggle it to know the one you like. After wasting 4 years in school i realized that employers are looking for those that can apply those knowledge.

There is a saying, it is not how far but how well. Years ago got admission into a university while I was about 16years, I was very stupid then because I thought life was all about enjoyment so I wasn't focused in school. I eventually joined bad gang and later in my second year I fail very well as was asked to repeat that year. I couldn't stand the shame so I left the school and started roaming the street as a dropout. My parents were upset and I left Nigeria to Ghana to go and hustle just like that. Years passed by without my knowledge and before I knew I had wasted away about 5 years and I was now in my 20s. I regretted everything because I saw better suffer so I put myself together again, gathered some money and ran back home as a prodigal son to plead with my parents. Most of my friends had already graduated and some had even married and working. My parents assisted me to get admission in a private university to start all over again. I cut off the shame and mockery, dedicated myself for good 5 years again to study Law, now it's all history.

Many who graduated years before me still see me now and at the end who they see now is a lawyer though am not practicing for now because am out of the country but I can always come back, just it off and run for any political position if I choose to.

Never give up bro. It's how well but not how fast.

This isinspiring.

Am in a depressed state and am so ashamed of myself. Currently schooling in a federal university studying computer sci. Seriously I feel really bad to have wasted 5 years without achieving nothing or a degree. Even spill over still wouldn't do no good cause I don't want a 3rd class degree or every worst. Can't take the risk again.[ insult is free i deserve it]

instead of graduating with a shitty degree am thinking of starting all over again from 100lvl to study computer science or anything related in a federal university. 4 years Max

Right now i feel like an abomination and a disgrace to my family. Have tried visiting the HOD's in my school unfortunately, I was informed students from the same school can't switch to same school [Different department] i dont know why i think it's best known to them.

Mind you am in my mid 20s with no achievement or any money making skills.

I have interest in mastering programming or becoming a tech savvy guy or a security expert but i can't. aside the coding aspect physiologically am not balance. Secondly, am limited.. Am very ambitious i need help and opportunities. Am tried of fighting alone/ holding back its eating me up silently... I only smile or engage myself in a social gathering to cover up my pain.

Even if am to start all over again I'll prefer a university that offer a 4 years course I don't know which Federal university one can study comp sci within 4 years.

Please I need advice and help The truth is school is frustrating and tiring.. I need a degree my battle can't be in vain.

I know someone would have pass through my line of sorrow or even worst. Your suggestions, opportunities and help will revive me back...

Regards,

There is nothing wrong, bad or shameful in starting all over again. Be it relatonships, lifestyle, career, EDUCATION etc. Failure is the assurance that you will be great, that success awaits. The rate or amount of failure is directly proportional to success. So the more you fail the more likely you are to succeed. Just learn from your past and hold on to experience achieved from it. At least, you now realise you dnt have to party all week to make good degree, you have to study. And once you realise this by starting all over-greatness awaits. No time is late. One day we will all die and when in the land of the dead, we will regret not making life simple by not going after what we wanted and not what people wanted.

One of the best advice... PGD is now two years though
Techcrunchng:
My man, a bird in hand is better than 9 in forest, since you are almost done with the first degree try and grab the certificate irrespective of the grade.

With third class you can apply for a one year PGD after which you can do your master's degree to solidify your certification, or better still, you can go for a second degree after the first degree.

Don't waste the certificate you struggled for 5 years because of third class which can take you to high places.
Besides, some that graduated with first class haven't gotten good paying jobs, try and acquire some skills, develop your entrepreneaurial skill and the sky will be your limit.

Regards,

Bro your idea is good cos it's never too late to start all over again but remember that Nigeria of today is no respecter of degrees, the last time I checked our president said your certificate doesn't guarantee you a job in this current economy. So my advice is if the third class is within your reach get it and call me for job, I will be willing to get you one,100% assured. you can contact me on 08060995086 or e-mail temifirst2015@gmail.com.

my brother let me tell you my story

I left school in 2015 because of 1yr extra year. I was admitted in banking & finance in 2009 but because of D7 in economics was given philosophy (graduated with second class lower 3.34 because of academic one side, hustling another side), that's how my dream to be a lecturer was almost cut short

after finishing with service in 2017, I had to sat for waec GCE 2017 to correct my silly mistake because people advise me then to go back and resit for another o level instead of accepting philosophy but na me know what I went through to get to that stage. I made the o level with all major subjects

I obtained utme 2018 got 234 but wrong selection of utme subjects fvck me up. I sat for this yr utme 2019 with (278) to study political science in unilag

I'm telling you all this for you to know your shame will be your glory tomorrow. care less about what people feel/think about you, follow your dream

I really don't care what people think or feel about me and that keep me going..just focus and make hay while the sunshine
Stay strong bro, it's just a matter of time. So far as you're motivated and dedicated. Life and health are what we pray for.

Regards,

It’s not worth the depression bro. It happened to me too in fact I dropped out after 500 I was 25. I went back started again and got the highest graduation grade and continued with an MSc.
You doing Computer Science so its so nice because if you can use the time you stay alone and worry to learn skills it will help you.
Register for courses in web development learn front end and back end like your life depends on it
Bro hard work pays. You will become skilled and of course the money will come.
For me I even became too smart after I dropped out. I think it’s the same when you have the will.
I finished my second bachelor 30. I still met up with my peers. It takes a lot of hard work, focus and determination but it’s 100% achievable. Stop thinking and start taking actions (develop ur self with skills/ master it)

whether you like go back and finish with first with first class, no employer will employ you on the knowledge u got from university. If you are going for a job in networking they will look for whether you have cisco certification not your uni cert. I finished from microbiology but right now am in the process of acquiring my ccna and ccnp certificate

Regards,

The mistake you're making is that you feel your degree or your result will dictate your future. It need not.

If there are people who didn't go to school are doing well, why not you?

I'm glad you came here to seek advice. The Bible says in the multitude of counsellors, there is accomplishment.

Why don't you add a skill like Oracle to compliment your computer science degree? You can learn how to design landing pages and advertise on Fiverr.com. You can make over $1,000 monthly from it if your price is cheap.

You can also go for Masters. Added to your degree, it can take you pkaces

Next year I will apply for Associate Cadet at Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron so that after 9months I will get Diploma in Nautical Science (OND) that will make me a cadet and after a year of been a cadet I will seat for My OOW exam and if I pass I will become a third Officer onboard and my hope of been a Captain will mature one day. I'm kinda like in the same shit you're in now. 5 years wasted. Also in in my mid twenties.

I believe I failed because I was too scared(I know it sounds silly though but it's true) so I wrote jamb again which I passed, and I'll be writing Post Utme next month. I also applied for a different course.

I honestly do not know where the money will come from to train myself in school but I'm not going to be afraid again this time. At least I owe that to my parents for failing them the first time.

I also do not have any good skills but I can type really fast and I just recently got some little graphic design skills. Have not started getting jobs though but I believe they'd come.
I have also saved some.money to use to.get a laptop by next month when the monthly contribution I'm a part of pays me.

We should link up though. I'm Dave
