Here we are calling onyekuru and osimhen quality players....not knowing that other countries do not even have an idea of who they are or where they play...if you want to know whether a team has quality players....ask a casual football fan outside the general sphere

If we ask someone from poland for example, how many African players will they name?

That is African football in general....average teams with a sprinkling of quality players....when we meet better countries...we fizzle out

Here the average countries in world are the favourites

What u said,is d truth, its only we d avid supporters of super eagles get to knw our players and d kind of qualities each of dem possess, ask an average Nigeria football lover of d street, dey can't even tell u d clubs dey play for,let alone of knowing dere qualities, most especially d older ones, some will even tell u dey only knw MIKEL grin grin grin and ask if he's still playing for Chelsea grin grin, and dis ppu don't joke with eagles match grin grin,na 4 only this thread we dey c our players as one big special talent cheesy

The only big name player in algeria remain mahrez, mikel should have been called but he his no more playing at the level of before, so many europeans football fans know mikel, and also so many european fans knows iwobi, that guy cant tell me he doesnt know iwobi, he can only say iwobi is not world class, an arsenal regular player cant be unknown

even for senegal team ask an european they will only call mane not everyone knows koullibally

for morocco they will only call benatia because he played for juventus ,bayern

Tunisia is NONE

Ivory coast maybe zaha, but is zaha popular than iwobi? if zaha is known then iwobi is also known

If we are to go by the words of boutabout then african only have very few big names which are not more than 8

Let me end here for now

Brahimi will never be ranked at the same level with mikel, i repeat never, you cant compare portugal to the epl, How many african players can have 249 epl appearance for chelsea and win much trophies? Brahimi ke

What hr said is a fallacy. Even though iqm not a supporter of Mikel in this team, brahimi will not achieve half of Mikel's accomplishments

Brahimi has consistently put up a good shift at Porto. He can be ranked in that level, just as mikel did with Chelsea. For brahimi His stats will attest to this.

Na wa o....una go just siddon dey insuly Mikel

Who is Brahimi? Which Algerian player in the last twenty years can smell Mikel if na name?

Na wa o....AFCON winner, UCL winner, Olympic bronze medallist, FA Cup, Premier League.....please, make we no insult Mikel anyhow, just because he came to AFCON with small boys

And both aren't actually big name players

And Algeria has only Mahrez who isn't even World class.

if we ask any African, how many Polish players they know, you will get nothing

Most Africans don't even know Lewandoski is polish.

The Major reason is so that he will have an edge to the other guys (Salah and Auba) come awards time (whether CAF or Ballon D'or)

He shouldn't deceive us with his trophy parade bullshit.I'm sure he is going to try to hard tomorrow and make mistakes. Tuniia might end up winning

I just have this feeling that Mane will f**k Senegal up with his selfishness today .He already missed two penalties and the coach said he will keep taking the penalties...

As an African if I asked u to name 5 players from the Polish national team without consulting the internet, can u do it?
Can u mention 5 players from Denmark, Czech republic or even Serbia?

its not by name but quality.. And judging from club performance, Onyekuru and Osimhen are quality players! They don't have to be known all over the world before we can establish that fact!!

We have quality players out there!!
If the average Nigerian football fan out there doesn't know their names, it doesn't mean they aren't good abeg... Talent is always raw until well nurtured.. who knew Mikel when he was with Lyn Oslo? Who knew Victor Moses when he was at crystal palace?
I have a friend who is a barca fan and he didn't even know who Chukwueze was until the AFCON started...
Not everybody have the time and luxury to follow football that well to the extent of knowing the names of all the players in the team they support..

You may be surprised that some die hard Chelsea, arsenal and barca fans out there can't mention the name of 20 players in their team offhand...

AFCON2019: Algeria Coach, Belmadi, Blasts Nigerian Media

The expected hostility that may happen before, during and after the semi final match between Nigeria and Algeria Sunday may have started to play itself out Saturday when the coach of the Desert Foxes, Djamel Belmadi, took a swipe on a question asked by Nigerian media at the pre-match conference.

A Nigerian journalist, Chisom Mbonu-Ezeoke, had asked the coach to comment on the incident that happened in the last match against Côte ‘d’ Ivoire when his defender, Sofiane Feghouli, simulated by forcing his hand on Wilfred Zaha and fell down waiting for the referee to blow for a foul play inside the box.

The short video clip of the incident had gone viral but when asked about the scene the coach simple turned the journalist question down and instead questioned her professionalism.

The media room was raging with anger when all the Algerian media men applauded the response but it took the coordinator of the programme some minutes before normalcy returned to the room.

“Gentlemen of the press, we need to be conscious of the fact that we are journalists and not fans, the clapping is disgraceful and tomorrow in the press gallery we must conduct ourselves and ensure that we don’t turn the arena into a fans pavilion, “ the Media Coordinator, Ibrahim Sani from Ghana remarked after the incident.

Meanwhile Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr was earlier asked the same incident and how he intends to take care of expected simulation of the Algerian players.

“Honestly I did not notice the incident but all I know is that FIFA frowns at such things hence we leave that to referee to handle. All my energy is channeled towards how we handle our match plans and the tactics we intend to adopt,” he remarked.

Kenneth Omeruo also said that as a defender, they have instruction from the coach to minimize or eradicate fouls in the vital area.

“We will be very alert to any form of antics from the Algerians and every one of us would be ready against the unprofessional match plan they may want to adopt,” he said with enthusiasm as he left the arena to join the rest of the team in camp.

The clown just lost my respect. I hope they get disgraced. This just made me angry. Chisom Mbonu is one of the most professional journalists in naija and I smell an undertone of sexism in the coach's response.

People are more relaxed about facing Algeria than they were when we faced Cameroon and South Africa...

But I'm sure the boys aren't that relaxed... they know what threat Algeria posses...

But on a serious note, the Algeria team we faced during the world cup qualifier wasn't much different than this..except that this one is more organized...

Super Eagles Training – Rohr Ponders Dropping Chukwueze For Kalu, Iwobi For Mikel & Musa For Simon

Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that during the last training session of the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their game against Algeria later today coach Gernot Rohr experimented with some ideas.

The coach tinkered with his selection for the last game which was the win over South Africa by altering the lineup during the session but with same formation like the one used in the last game.

Samuel Kalu was played as the right winger of the team with Samuel Chukwueze dropping to the B team while on the other flanks Moses Simon took the spot of Ahmed Musa.

In midfield, the coach also played John Obi Mikel in place of Alex Iwobi as he was lined up alongside the duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo for the team that has most of the regulars.

Owngoalnigeria.com also noticed that Ola Aina played as a right back for the B team with Jamilu Collins now fully recovered and back in training holding onto his spot as left full back of the team.

I hope this news is fake

Gernot should better respect him self o
