afroniger:The day the project gets completed, you will see how house rents in Sagamu, Mowe and Ibadan will go up. People will start living in Ibadan and working in Lagos, by commuting daily. 1 Like |

grandstar: So because it is expensive to build and a lot of debt has been incurred, are you saying they should not build or finish the new rail line or put new coaches on the rail track? So passengers and commuters should continue suffering on that route, by using that old Lagos-Ibadan road that is always clogged with traffic? |

laudate: You are correct. E.g, 2 plots of land wey I buy for close to that axis just barely 2-months ago at Ibadan (Adron estate) at 600k a piece don already appreciate to 2m per plot as we speak. My neighbours don dey erect different different structures for there already. 1 Like |

laudate: No, what I am saying is that most people are oblivious of the cost of these trains and laying track. Left to the market to determine, no new rail will be built. |

grandstar: But Nigeria NEEDS new rail lines, as our current transport infrastructure is unable to support our logistics needs. Yes, rail infrastructure is expensive, but it is a necessity. If we want our transport system to develop, the only way we can carry goods and passengers over long distances, is to use rail. And we need to invest in such structures as a nation, in order to move ahead . |

laudate: You have a point. The question begging answers now is- are the trains cutting through the most important routes or not? A train service from Kaduna to Abuja begs a lot of questions. 1 Like 1 Share |

grandstar: They are, the north south trade is pretty much the basis- the old narrow guage was built based on that- goods from lagos(port) to the north and agric from the north to the South. Kaduna to Abuja link is part of the bigger Lagos to Kano service, just happened to be the first phase- Abuja being the capital is an obvious choice and Kaduna has the biggest economy in the North after Kano- personally Lagos to ilorin should have been the first. 2 Likes 1 Share |

That means the railways can not service the debt borrowed. The country is simply storing problems for the future. Like everywhere else railways don't pay for themselves BUT the economies they stimulate/create helps a great deal 1 Like |
