This guy is not literate. Technicality is defined as a point of law or a small detail of a set of rules, as contrasted with the intent or purpose of the rules. This is not the same as subject matter expert |

This is really really sad. About 90% of the folks on this thread i can guarantee you does not understand the question asked and does not understand the answer given and they are here hating and insulting based on their bias. Nigerian youths are truly lazy, stupid and now you can add uneducated to the list. Now, if you doubt me, i challenge all you idiots insulting the CJN to simple describe the question and the answer provided and how the answer was wrong. Lets see who amongst all you lazy idiots currently insulting the CJN can take up the challenge. Now to the few folks who do not understand and are open minded, the CJN clearly defined "Technicalities in law, talked about its origin and clearly explained its applicability in the courts. The CJN also talked about how "Technicalities" can be subject to different interpretations as well as what he as a Judge does and will do in any case that involves "Technicalities". Very brilliant and excellent answer. 2 Likes |

I think a lot of you lot are just like herds, just following the wind and outsourced your reasoning capacities.......... I see nothing wrong in Tanko's answer. 1. First off, the question is a trap, skewed to the context and bias of the asker. If it was to justify an already lost cause (Osun Election) then that in itself is inviting a bias against the CJ. He's a CJ recommended by the NJC. Asking questions about SC judgement made by a panel of 7 judges at his screening in itself sparks moral bankruptcy and pettiness on the asker. 2. You cannot just lift 2 different statements of the supreme Court in isolation and ask "what is the position of the Supreme Courts" without a recourse to the contexts within. If the SC saw a recourse to technicalities in a typical case as a way to evade justice and sees it in another as a breach of court proceedings, what is wrong in that? 3. No wonder, Chief Justice Tanko summarized his answer to a single phrase - "RULES OF INTERPRETATION". As simple as that. It does not even need you to be a lawyer to understand a logic as this. 1 Like |

All of a sudden, Tanko went descriptive like a classroom teacher yet couldn't answer the question. I guess he was being a lawyer; trying to confuse the largely dumb senators with bogus words that meant nothing. He kept repeating the word, "technicality" instead of just saying there is no hard and fast rule in the delivery of judgment. |

www.nairaland.com/attachments/9853907_20190718132849_jpeg558abd25e3b09b71f73f438ee11ccf3bWhy exaclty is this dude going on a tirade over Buhari?.... Is Buhari the National Judicial Committee that promoted the man from cradle to the level of being the second most senior supreme court justice?.... The way Nigerians blame president for everything can be amusing and just ridiculous at times. Meanwhile, I can't claim to understand the question asked and can't also claim to know what the right answer should be. As a dummy in the law, I must admit though that I couldn't understand the technicality of the explanations made by Oga Tanko; people should learn to break things down to simple language when speaking to an audience who aren't from similar backgrounds. 1 Like |

We really need to look inwards to see where we are getting it wrong in our own lives and try to work on that instead of our continuous pointing of fingers which solves nothing. 2 Likes |

Chiedu4Trump: Abaribe is arguing that the Supreme Court contradicted itself in the two cases with respect to the impact of technicalities on justice administration. The CJN didn't understand the question. What he should have done was to explain, as an expert, why the Court had to contradict itself. Sadly, he went about explaining the meaning of technicality without relating it to the context and explaining how justice will be interpreted within the context of technicality under him 1 Like |

I like the way the CJN answered the question. This was a judgement given by 7 SCJ and the senator want Tanko to explain the seemingly contradiction. I think that was a trap! CJN, being a master at law, carefully evaded his trap. PDP would have happily quoted him in the event that similar 'technicality ' stuff comes up in the ongoing Atiku vs Buhari case. With his evasive answer, no one can quote him. If anyone thinks he doesn't know what he's saying, then it means you don't know anything about technicality as it applies to law and Nigeria. 1 Like |
