It will be forfeited because the money or properties are gotten illegally. A wise one will always send money back home and acquire less properties because of the illegality of their residence 1 Like |

Free properties for friends and landlords. They don't have bank accounts so I guess they should have their monies with them or have a friend who keeps for them. |

When someone is deported it depends on what they have and the marital status Say for example Mr A was arrested and detained before he is deported there are always some legal works done and it takes some days before they are removed finaly so family and friend can visit and help with some personal or financial property. If in the US unless is house is paid or loan assumed by someone else the house will be foreclosed to the lender. Cars on loan will also be repossessed My 2cent 2 Likes |

It's still there. You just have to move it/sell it, as long as the money and property are legally yours. Now, depending on the country (e.g. India), one might need to be a national to purchase property - if this was done under pretext, then the property is forfeit. |

I think your question is incomplete. Deported base on what? How long has the person stayed? Does he/she has a family? Did he/she worked atall? Or working to earn money? Does he/she has a house where he/she leaves? Besides the money worked in a country is still their money. And if you were caught on a criminal offence, you don't have any money or property to claim. That's how the law works. If also you're an illegal migrant in that country, when caught, they assumed you are not supposed to exist, telling them you have money at home or property is like a robber telling the owner of the house where he kept all the money he stole from him because he must surely claim it back. So, if your family or friend is not fast enough to hide few things, na sorry be your name. It's also risky for them. 5 Likes |

FlutterDollar99: You can just send to your own bank account in home country... don't need to involve family at all. Ideally use it to buy treasuries or timed deposits so some bank employee doesn't start getting ideas. |

/ If a house, the bank takes back the property after obvious default on payments. If in an apartment, the management will auction off the property on eviction. If a car that is financed, repo guys will tow it back to the lenders choice of storage for onward auction. This is when good friends come handy. He can write cheques and send to a friend to clear his bank account and forward to him. If he is married, it shouldn't be such a big of a problem. The wife will assume all responsibilities. The only caveat is that the marriage may be as good as dead. 2 Likes 1 Share |

That'e a very loaded question. It really is dependent on the situation. If the person has an account in the bank and assuming that he has no body to give a power of attorney to retrieve the money for him, then the money stays in the account until the Bank turns over the funds to National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators which every state in the US acting in the best interest of consumers, has enacted an unclaimed property statute that protects a persons funds from reverting back to the company if you have lost contact with them. These laws instruct companies to turn forgotten funds over to a state official who will then make a diligent effort to find you or your heirs. Most states hold lost funds until you are found, returning them to you at no cost or for a nominal handling fee upon filing a claim form and verification of your identity. Since it is impossible to store and maintain all of the contents that are turned over from safe deposit boxes, most states hold periodic auctions and hold the funds obtained from the sale of the items for the owner. Some states also sell stocks and bonds and return the proceeds to the owner in the same manner. As for the property, if the house is paid for meaning he does not owe any mortgage, then all he has to worry about is paying taxes on the property. If taxes are not paid, then the city where the property is located would put a tax lien on the property and if not paid after a period of time, the city usually sell the tax lien to investors who would pay the tax and after a period of time usually a year or more depending on the state in question then the house is taken over by the investor who paid the tax on the said property. But assuming that the house is not paid for, then the Bank or the mortgage company [the legal owner] would take over the property if the mortgage is not paid when it's due...usually monthly. If he's renting, then the landlord would dispose of his property and then rent the apartment to another tenant. The above scenario is what usually happens in cases where an individual unexpectedly has no access to his bank account or abandons his property and that would be applicable as well when an individual is deported. 5 Likes |

FlutterDollar99: It best they open a domiciliary account where the money will be paid into. I won't advise they keep it in Naira due to the tendency of the currency to depreciate in value. |

nothing happens to your money and property. the government does not care about all that. they just want to remove you physically from their country. if you have money and prooperty, when you have been deported to your country then starrt making phone calls to trusted people to help you withdraw your money and send it back to you and if you have a current account just use your online banking to transfer all your money into your bank in nigeria. so to answer your question, nothiing happens to your house or money. it just remains there till you find a trustworthy person to sell the house for you and send you the money |

I am just reading some comments and laughing, some people are here just making assumptions. Based on what I have personally observed, everything depends on the country in question. In some western nations from the moment you are detained to be deported, kiss every kobo goodbye. Even if you send someone with an ATM to withdraw the money, it won't work. Your account is one of the very first things to be blocked. It's a horrible experience and the worst thing is that you can't fight it. |
