Chinese don't speak English, Korea, Russia, Denmark, , Finland, Japan and so many other great countries. Just like Lpo said and I quote "you can naver build a great nation or economy with a borrowed language, " Nigeria should stop teaching in English, go and research this, all British colonies that dump English language are doing well than those that embrace it 1 Like 1 Share |

Jayslicky:Hello Mr English. If truely you believe Mr President can't communicate fluently in English, that means you don't understand English yourself. You will need to find another country where your President will speak the type of English you understand 1 Like 1 Share |

lexy2014: Actually, no. If you pay close close attention you will notice he meant that productive Chinese people do not speak English.... but they don't need to speak English! They were taught in Chinese. The Nigerian man is taught in English so he needs a high level of proficiency in the language to be effective. |

NUJABEZ: So is it d lack of proficiency in English that has made many brilliant Nigerians still roaming d streets looking 4 jobs? |

lexy2014: No, it is not. However, it could be a symptom of the underlying issue i.e lack of grounded knowledge in first principles. English language is a first principle in Nigeria. A graduate that doesn't have a good grasp of the English language in the Nigerian context is half-baked, because that particular weakness brings into scrutiny the level and depth of his understanding. A Chinese man taught in Chinese since birth would not be assessed on his language proficiency because concepts in mother tongues can be understood intuitively. |

I served in Ifo LGA and won't forget in a hurry how during a literature class ,a student wrote "Sizwe Banzi went to defecate a urine (I taught ss2 and ss3 in a public school in ayetoro, yewa North,Ogun state in my nysc days. I can attest to the fact that though my ss3 students were about writing waec/neco exams, more than 80 percent of them could neither speak nor write in English language even though they "copy notes". I have always wondered if it is the same waec, neco and jamb that every part of the country is writing!!!
Rilley: I wouldn't know if quoting you brings food on your table but I will respond to u for d last time, mark my words- last time, unless you buy some sense later on, maybe you do that for fun or you are actually jobless....just take a chilled break and be sensible. Nairaland isn't a place to showcase senselessness. |

Damod88: A symbol of mediocrity. Neo-colonization & self enslavery. We need to come out of this shell. Where is India today in term of development? How many productive Indians speaks English. Ability to speak English is not a symbol of success nor success itself. After all you speak English what is your end product worldwide? |
Re: Nigeria Will Soon Produce Graduates Who Can't Speak English — Senator Okorocha by Sunmolar(m): 10:09pm On Jul 18, 2019 |
NUJABEZ: You spent a lot of years learning English, while Chinese & Indians are learning technology without knowing English & yet they're more productive than you that is proficient in English language. One day a non English speaking Indian may appoint you as a marketer. |

Sunmolar: Can't you just get the point: they don't need English!!! Mention one Nigerian school that instructs in Yoruba or Igbo or Hausa language. Meanwhile there are thousands of Asian schools where English is alien to the curriculum, and their native languages is the language of instruction. We need English to learn, they do not need English. |

NUJABEZ: I was told that every Wednesday, schools in Anambra state teach in Igbo. I am not sure how true this is. The governor of Imo state is about to sign a bill into law to make the Igbo language compulsory in all schools in the state, similar to the bill signed into law in Lagos state on Yoruba language. 2 Likes |
How many productive Chinese can speak English? Yet they make footprints worldwide.[/quote This is because we are not yet aware of the many bene2of using Mother Tongue tk tea h our children and to make them develop useful enterpreural skills. Nigerian education still has a long way to go. We re simply a Certificate oriented country without due consideration of Skills and abilities. 1 Like |

NUJABEZ: Maybe you've not come out of your closet yet to know that a lot of schools in the north doesn't make English language a priority. A senator should be able to tell us how to make development & advancement in technology a priority to govt than speak about 'high scores in English' language. How did we even arrived at that problem of graduates not been able to speak English fluently? |

NUJABEZ: Early this month or late last month, I met a lady. As we got talking, she informed me that she is an industrial chemist, a B.Sc holder. I was like wow! That's great. I then asked her if she could make liquid soap for washing plates. She said no. I asked if she could make izal. She said no. Then I told that I could show her where they sell d chemicals& they will teach her how to mix& get product. But guess what, she is very proficient in English& those that were going to teach her aren't proficient in English. D same story goes 4 our electrical engineers that can't wire a house or fix anything. Even d CJN couldn't explain "technicality" in law during his screening despite his proficiency in English. D lawmakers themselves who are also proficient in English went ahead to confirm tanko CJN despite him showing that he didn't have d competence for d job of CJN. So being proficient in a language is good. It will enhance communication. But many in Nigeria can but where has it gotten us? Just look at buhari, oshiomole & osinbajo with their English. Competence& productivity is d koko |
