izzou: 1. You set up a rental business and I came to rent your car, I am not your employee but a business partner, abi you will give me employment letter? and pay salary whether there's sales or not 2. "I see uber guys get serious accidents, and I ask myself...."What's the fate of the car owner" Why not also ask what's the fate of the driver? (If he dies or gets handicapped) and the fate of the family that depends on him 9 Likes 1 Share |

izzou: I will use the analogy of the food canteen and 2 cooks to answer this question. What they bring to the table is expertise. Cooking for the public is not something u can just stand up and start doing. They go to school and pay to learn. Likewise drivers, they learn how to drive and bring that expertise with them. If you remove the 2 cooks, your food canteen will just be a shop with chairs and tables. Of course, U can decide to cook the food yourself but if u can handle it, you wouldn't have thought about involving anybody else. Secondly, driving is considerably more dangerous than cooking. Apart from expertise, drivers put their lives on the line every day just to meet that target. And the owner of the car will be in the safe confines of his home waiting for his weekly cashout. If there's damage to the car, it can be repaired. What if there's damage to the driver's legs in an accident or worse, his life?? 8 Likes 2 Shares |

deedee44: And if something goes wrong, what part does the driver play as a partner? Someone here talked about collecting a car on 25k rental, and the same car owner will service and repair..... And you still see it as a partnership? As for issues concerning death, anyone could die. Because I drive doesn't mean I will die through driving. My point was in the case of losing the investment(the car), who bears the brunt? Who loses? 2 Likes |

pharod: So if he shop gets burnt one day, what do the two ladies get to lose? Absolutely nothing. We can talk about expertise, but the investment is the car. What is the driver bringing into it?.... Maybe HP would have looked more like a partnership sha... Maybe 3 Likes |

izzou:But we're talking about drivers having accidents here. Anyone could die truly, but anyone who drives long hours every day is exposed to more risk of death. It shall not be our portion in jesus name insha allah 3 Likes |

izzou:Izzou, sorry i have to disagree wit u on this. When i was working in a company(name witheld). A particular logistics company supplies us with vehicles(staff buses) and our company remit monthly to the logistics company. The question is; Do we call that relationship between my company and d logistics company a partnership or employer-employee? If i walked in to izzou auto and logistics to rent car for a purpose. Irrespective of what my purpose is on d said rented car whether uber, taxify or personal use. The relationship between me and mr izzou auto and logistics is partnership. He did not employ me. Does it mean that the logistics company employed my company for supplying them staff buses? Just my opinion 2 Likes |

deedee44:but you are not a business partner if u didn't pay upfront. I mean your ability to pay your rent is dependent on the car he gave you. i.e your ability to feed is because he gave you a car which gives him some kind of right of say. Drivers on hp with some down payment could be considered as partners because they have some amount of stake in the business. Drivers on hp without down payment can best be described as a boy who ( pardon my choice of words) serves his boss for some certain years to be settled at the end of the agreed years. Contracts signed also determines if you a partner or not....most drivers on rentals have no contract aside pay me 30k...I will handle repair and all... Drivers on rentals should have some kind of insurance to their lives which should be funded by the partners...but then again most drivers are desperate to drive and earn and would take any deal as far as they get d car. 1 Like 1 Share |

Epphy:YouTube video would help on how it's done. Look for a competent mechanic that has the right tools and knows what he/she is doing for diagnosis and subsequent fix (if suggested). Cost of proper overhaul to proper factory spec might be intimidating though. So keep that in mind mind if anyone tells you overhaul is cheaper than engine replacement. 2 Likes |

Dbossmanager:" your ability to feed is because he gave him a car which gives him some kind of right of say " is false. Car might be rented for another purpose aside ehailing. Renting of car has been in existence for ages. There was a dj....( forgotten his monicker) that was seeking a car to rent some months ago here on this thread. Ofcourse, its clear he needed it for a diff purpose aside ehailing. If he eventually gotten a suitablè rented car deal, is he employed or partner with d car owner? Irrespective of what d rented cars are used for, its partnership 3 Likes |

shollywendy1:you are right bro...car can be rented for different purposes but I was more particular about ehailing.... but in anyways contract would be signed...and 99.9% of the time...some agreed amount would be paid upfront....in that case the ability to pay for the rent isn't necessarily attached to the car...so we could say they are partners....but not the case with ehailing rentals without down payment.. |

For me o though....every human being must be treated with respect no matter the hierarchy.... and both drivers and owners are partners....but the owner is the boss... let say he is the CEO....and d driver is the manager.... The CEO can fire the manager....the manager can resign from his position....not fire the CEO... An owner can collect back his car...some even go physical.....but the driver can only walk away and be back here looking for a new partner.... who else was in magodo this morning....the traffic in there was terrible.... 1 Like 1 Share |

izzou: I like to think partnership is more about the deed legally binding the partners. It is also errorneous to think that every partner must participate in the work or share in the assets/liabilities of the business. There are different types of partners, depending on the level of their participation or liability in the business. 5 Likes |
