I write from my New York City perspective. This is more for those who are planning on living here illegally. Do not do it... don't jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Not discouragement.... but enlightenment. Don't count on people to help you...it is a dog eat dog situation. Sooo many opportunities would not be available to you.... for jobs... for housing... for transportation and for certain medical attention... you will have to pay out of pocket.
Today ICE is making sweeps to arrest illegal immigrants. The thing is... wherever they swoop down... they will drag not only their target... but everyone else around to check their status ...then off to the overcrowded detention centers.
Continued...actually...I did not even know I posted the above!

The fear I see while doing my rounds is alarming. People are soooo az fraid of ICE.... they been opening their doors for me at first knock...but now I have to convince them that I am who Insaid I am. If someone wants to host you.... their fear would be what if ICE raids and have them hauled in for harbouring an illegal? The situation is tense here. I know it is worse in other States where the residents are generally supportive of kicking out illegals. It is not surprising that we no longer hear much from those who always advise to stay away from Black areas... settle in White areas. Since Trump.... those people have been silent.
All the above... is just about fear.... fear because one is not legal.

It's a pity that those who are stuck here ... trapped... do not share their experiences... nor tell others of their pitfalls. Somehow... I have the feeling that misery loves company.

On vacation I'm not....status changed. For me.... to begin with... I was pressured to come by family members resident here. Feeding...clothing... housing... all transportation.... going to interviews... etc..... I had tremendous support. ...but that was my circumstances ...I didn't even have to look... my landing was well prepared.... all I needed to do was leap. What is your circumstances?...is your landing prepared? That's what this is all about.
My advice to anyone...visit first... before making a decision. You will see things from a wider perspective ... and be in a position to make good decisions.

I pity any Nigeria that's living in UK or planning to move to UK, they are better in Nigeria or elsewhere.

They tax their citizens so much. So it cancels the nonsense free education and healthcare cos UK citizens pay for it through their heavy taxation which make them poor and almost living from hand to mouth.

You can hardly see a Nigerian living in UK and doing very well financially, very rare, and if you ever see one, he or she is either a doctor or a nurse

My friend's wife works in financial compliance sector in uk and earns 90 thousand pound a year. The amazing thing is she works from home....

Right now in the USA, the system is designed in such a way that if u are rich u can never become poor.... and if u are poor, it's going to be extremely difficult for u to be rich....

This is 2019, there's no perfect country anymore...
Even most developed western nations have come to accept that reality....
America has its great side- good career progression, better opportunities in most career fields, strong IT sector, good universities, great centre for innovation n creativity....
But don't make it look like other countries are shitty or lags behind...
America is not even among the top 15 most prosperous nations anymore...
It's number 17 while uk u claim is shitty is 7...

There is no need to scare people away from going to the US legally on a visiting or student visas.

After their three months legal stay in the US they can get an American to fall in love, marry and then can change their temporary status to permanent status via adjustment of status to obtain a green card. Unfortunately this is one of the weak US immigration loopholes that most visiting and student immigrants have used and are still using.

... Hmmm! Presently, you can not change your status as it is if you came in on B1-B2 Visa. That era has gone for now, take it or leave it. Even now, no extension again and no more students visa like before. I live in Bay area, California I am saying the real truth of what is going on for now!

I think that why our people tilt towards america is that they have that hustling spirit we have in the Nigeria . U can start small and build up. No strict regulations(I might be wrong) and there is this wide spread believe that the only problem is to enter America. Once u enter, u can find way to legalise unlike some other countries.

As canadian Citizen and canada being number one in quality and standard of life, i will never dreamt of living in usa. Atleast i can sleep very well, knowing fully well that my next door neighbour doesnt have a gun. I dont even visit usa on vacation not to talk about living there. I prefer places like Paris, switzerland, neitherlands etc.

I was in Toronto last two years and couldn't wait for my vacation to be over so I can return to New Jersey. Forget Canada and any country, if you have lived in America you can't dream of living anywhere else in the world. I was bored to death in Toronto. The largest city in Canada only have few African restaurants. I couldn't even find where to eat isiewu or nkwobi. In Brooklyn we have fresh Tombo that comes from Lagos everyday when Arik airlines was operating direct flights to New York. I work in New York City and can't imagine being far away from it. Life ends in America nwanne. Forget the zoo.

always good at making derogatory remarks everywhere, always with a mind that nothing good can come out Nigeria too, even the canada you calm you know is not as fantastic as you think, you mention free-health, do you really think theirs is free-health? you must be joking my dear, someone is paying for it, and then at the end of the day you only get to be attended to ONLY when your case is super urgent or very critical. Besides their is a long waiting list if you need to see a specialist. like someone says may we not suffer cancer. Most of our health (Nigerian) professionals come here and can not get into their systems easily, some have become healthcare Aid worker, whilst our people back home are suffering, where is empathetic here. I know we have a very bad government , but please like an adage says only a Mad man would use is left finger to describe home. And finally learn to use tend words to people when responding, you often sound bitter and harsh.

The husband has Deportation orders. He was scheduled for deportation a while back due to credit card fraud. He went to court and lost the case and then was scheduled for deportation but they went into hiding. I have done my homework.

And no, you don't need to have deportation orders to be deported. This guy in this article didn't.
