which of the world cup qualifiers did he score 5 goals, which stats are you talking about, by stats, he was not our best player, it was emenike

Good,
So if Emenike has 4 goals, 3 assists and you praise him why are you talking down down on VM who has 2 goals, 4 assists in the same tournament? Is there much difference between their achievements?

Ighalo’s wife Sonia celebrates husband’s retirement from National team

Joan Igbava 0 July 23, 2019 7:05 pm

Wife of ex-Nigerian footballer, Sonia Ighalo has opened up on the struggles of the Former Super Eagles star, Odion Jude Ighalo during and after the 2018 World cup famous last group game against Argentina which Nigeria lost 2-1.

In the Aftermath of the game, Odion Ighalo came under serious criticism and backlash from angry Nigerian football fans following his missed chances, who also took it personal sending threats to the family of the footballer.

Ighalo’s wife in an appreciatory post on her Instagram account recounted the journey from the 2018 World cup to the 2019 Afcon,

“My king my hero a true born king… I could write a long epistle about the journey and battle we fought before and after world cup… I remember the famous Nigeria vs Argentina match when you called that morning crying, telling me how you woke up with heavy pains on both legs… my first thought was, why today when you have a crucial game…my heart was heavy to hear you cry.. because I have known you to be a strong man even when in pains you always try to hide it from me to avoid me panicking.. to hear you say “HL I cant move my legs” I knew it has come to worst.. I went on my kneels crying and praying to God.. fast forward after the famous match, right from the stadium I started asking God why… because that wasn’t his promises.. everyone around me tried to console me… few min later I started receiving death threat, keyboard warriors cursing my children, they called me witch and all sort of names… I remember someone even made a comment on instablog saying how I lost a child etc… some so called celebrity actress, musicians posting trash on Twitter to insult u, knowing fully they are on the same table… so I said to myself ENOUGH!! You ain’t going to play with the super eagles anymore… Few months later, you got a call from the coach, I was so pissed and I said if you go there, you ain’t seeing us anymore your MOG had to call to convince me that God is preparing a table for you in the presence of your enemy.. Fast forward TO the AFCON qualifiers we prayed and God heard our prayers, the world celebrated u as the highest goal scorer for the qualifiers…and today we celebrate you as you have left a blue print in the just concluded tournament in Egypt… Winning the golden boot isn’t just what I’m happy for, but proving to the world no one can FIGHT GRACE. You are blessed my Hero IN & OUT football you’ve proved you are a destiny child on assignment ❤ NENE gave birth to a true Champion

I also want to use this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to coach Gernot Rohr who in all never gave up on you”

The story which shows a transition from pain to joy, also gives a hint to the reason behind Ighalo’s retirement. Ighalo called time on his national team commitments after finishing as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations’ top scorer with five goals.

So Ighalo was injured before the Argentina match? Showed no signs to me, true warrior.

Guys I'm sorry but I have to say this. Go back to 9:40 and see Nacho send Harvey Barnes through with a pass. He takes a shot but when the keeper saves it he had the option of returning the favor to Nacho who would have scored into an empty net but he refused and went for glory. This is what we have been complaining about from his teammates. They are either selfish or they just don't look up when they are in front of the net.

Oga gala Don win uel oooooo, Pana were strong before but nowadays they are struggling. Dem start to fumble when players like Ajagun joined them cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

I know but Panathinaikos reached UEFA Champions League finals . What Gala never achieved.

However, Panathinaikos came 2nd once in the league and won the Greece cup after Ajagun joined them. How does that tantamount to fumble?

Ighalo: How can Nigeria replace departed striker?

The Afcon top scorer has retired from international football, and he won’t be easy to replace

Farewell Ighalo
Odion Ighalo called time on his international career this weekend, drawing the curtain on a four-year tenure with the Super Eagles in which he scored 16 goals in 35 appearances.

Despite being criticised during his time with Nigeria—notably when he missed a decisive sitter as the West Africans fell to Argentina during the World Cup—Ighalo goes out on a high following the Africa Cup of Nations.

He scored five goals in the continental showpiece in Egypt, earning him the Golden Boot, and now goes out on a high.

However, how can Gernot Rohr replace the striker in whom he’s shown faith throughout his time at the helm?

Here are five options…

Kelechi Iheanacho
The Leicester City striker has struggled to adapt to life at the King Power Stadium since being sold by Manchester City, and has paid with his place in the Nigeria squad.

He was cut from Rohr’s selection after netting just once in 30 Premier League outings last term, but at only 22, he has time on his side.

If Iheanacho can rediscover the form he showed earlier in his career, at Leicester or elsewhere, then he can return to his rightful spot as Nigeria’s leading man.

Paul Onuachu
The towering forward may have—inadvertently—become Nigeria’s leading man following Ighalo’s exit, having been one of only two other strikers on Rohr’s list.

His goalscoring record in Denmark is excellent, while he also took to life as an international instantly with an early goal in a friendly against Egypt.

However, he’d change the style of football Nigeria play—being such a towering target man—while his relatively meagre playing time at the Afcon suggests Rohr isn’t completely convinced.

Victor Osimhen
The only other striker on Nigeria’s squad list for Russia was Osimhen, although he received even less playing time than Onuachu, managing just 45 minutes during the course of the competition.

The attacker is only 20, and while highly rated, can’t yet be considered a viable leading man for the national side.

With more regular playing time at club level, for Sporting Charleroi in Belgium, Osimhen can refine his craft, while Ighalo’s retirement should raise his place in Nigeria’s pecking order.

Henry Onyekuru
Unlike the other players on this list, Onyekuru isn’t a natural striker.

He’s made his name as a wideman during his career, while he was also trialled—and excelled—as left wing-back during a loan spell at Anderlecht.

However, what Onyekuru does have in his locker is goals; he scored 14 in the Super Lig for Galatasaray last term, and 27 across three seasons in the Belgian leagues with Eupen and then the Purple & White.

He’s found gametime hard to come by out wide—playing for just 12 minutes at the Nations Cup—and with Samuel Chukwueze and Samuel Kalu only likely to get stronger, a move to a more central role could suit all parties.

Tammy Abraham
Nigeria tried to recruit Abraham before, only to have their fingers burned—in somewhat humiliating fashion—as the Chelsea striker rejected the NFF’s overtures in order to represent England.

However, two years down the line, despite having featured for the Three Lions in friendlies, he’s yet to make a competitive debut and hasn’t been called up since.

Now back at Chelsea after a productive loan spell at Aston Villa, Abraham may find himself back in Gareth Southgate’s sights, but if not, he could be a replacement for—and even an upgrade on—Ighalo.

Henry Onyekuru is not a striker.

Am not even sure of the four assist of Moses. Am not saying Moses is not a good player but begging him out of retirement does not worth it as the current will fill in his shoes in the next two years
