I might be wrong, but I feel most successful directors in Hollywood can be classified into 3;

The ones that make highly rated, artistic, poetic, Oscar bait films that are continually lauded by critics:
Dennis Villeneuve, Barry Jenkins, Steve Mcqueen, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese etc

The other ones make highly budgeted pop-corn flicks and crowd-pleasers; huge advertising budgets that are sure box office winners for the studios/distributors: sad(Reviews don't matter)
Jon Favreau, Justin Lin, Mel Gibson, James Wan, Michael Bay etc

The third group make films that lit up the box office, impress critics and take up silverware on Oscar night
Though the catch is that they're very few.

Saw 5 minutes of inception while having dinner and concluded that Nolan is a rare breed that belongs to the third category. Same "Inception" was nominated for 8 Oscar awards and went on to win 4-after having made over 800 million on a 160 mill budget.

Skip over the bat films right down to "Interstellar":700 mill on 160 mill budget, nominated for 5 Oscars and won one.

Then comes "Dunkirk" in 2017; 577 mill on a 150 mill. Same was nominated for 8 Oscars and won 3.

At this point in Nolan's career, dude can command a 350 mill dollars budget for a film: no questions asked.

Which begs the question: What's he doing that other aren't? What makes him so special? Is it possible to impress both sides of the spectrum (Audiences and critics alike)?

What other directors belong in the same category as Nolan?

I'd say Steven Spielberg; check out Jurassic Park, E.T, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan and then we can talk.

Pardon my writing... smiley

Idiocracy-
I laughed and laughed and laughed. After Undercover Brother, this is the second most ridiculous movie I have watched in the 21st century.

Despite the silliness of the movie's premise, the message is a clear- humans need to get back to reading books.

8/10, for the theme and bucketsload of laughs.

The King of Comedy 9/10

There's something about satires that makes them so appealing to me, making fun of ridiculousness is such an enticing prospect, this picture does that to celebrity worship and American media culture. Rupert Pupkin goes from crazy celebrity stalker to world famous by taking advantage of a hostage situation. grin

If done well, black comedy can be hilarious.

Without Scorsese and de Niro this movie wouldn't have been any good, but with any thing Scorsese all you need to do is pay close attention and let the movie lead you. De Niro's performance again was outstanding, I mean this man puts the method in method acting, one of the greatest ever.

Slenderman 3/10 stupid horror movie with various plotholes and shit talk. Total waste of time resources and MB

Train to Busan. 7/10 nice storyline, beautiful writing. Probably the best Zombie horror film I've ever watched. Thrilling story and emotional characters. True and honest depiction of human instincts in a bid to survive; everyone for his own only. Never thought I would see a zombie film this good, moreso coming from South Korea.

The wandering Earth 7/10 decent sci fi movie. Brilliant visuals and CGI. Never thought the Chinese were gonna be good in sci fi, they got their science right.

Patient Zero 3/10 interesting storyline but fvvked up by it's plotholes and poor writing, poor acting.

Wow watched the first 4 episodes of the boys. I was blown away.

The story is tight and the background is lit. J like the fact that the supers cant do anyhow and also have to watch for backlash of their actions.

The series made them real.people with real people issues. So far so good.

I recommend this for anyone needing series.
