Far be it from me to pray for this dream killer. A blood sucker like her is second to non. Onyeopobo, Do you have any ideas on how we can strengthen the relationship of opobo people with the rest of Ndigbo?

In a general sense, most people from Opobo town are generally very open minded and laid back because of the multiple ethnicities around us, more like most communities in Rivers State, Because we're a multicultural state and tribalist undertones will get you no allies, hence why most notable igbo politicians from rivers state are not usually at the fore front of any Pro-igbo anything to avoid issues with our neighboring communities. But deep inside we know ourselves and where we belong to should there be an eventual collapse of nigeria and that's what most of my input in this thread has mostly been about. I'm sorry I can't sound fully tribalist as I am not that type of person but i have become sentimental about our tribe and how badly we have been sidelined in Nigeria even though we are a staggering majority.

To be honest Opobo people are basically hooked on everything igbo, and I don't think this is done because we do it for tribalist reasons or to prove anything to anybody but it's a natural evolution of life for any igbo person born in an igbo community and because what we speak is central igbo ours is even stronger. If you walk around on any given day what you would here playing in the backgrounds are igbo songs like you'd hear in any other major igbo city or town. In church we preach in igbo and sing igbo and kalabari songs like most rivers state communities.

When an opobo man is accomplished and is ready to marry we usually end with an igboid or opobo or bonny woman. I'm very sure if you look around you might find an Opobo man who married a yoruba or edo woman even though I can't think of one myself, but 80% percent of opobos end up with an igbo speaking spouse. Again I don't think it's done out of tribalism but as a natural progression of life of an igbo person. Because when you meet fellow igbo speaking person and the relationship gets serious, it usually more likely ends in a marriage as there is not going to be any tribal friction from family or close relatives about who you're marrying. So i guess with that high percentage of igbo marriages, opobos are unintentionally strengthening ties with inland igbo communities. So as an Opobo person, you are most definitely at a lot of times in your life doing some sort of in-law visiting or partying in inland igbo communties.

Also a lot of people from opobo usually travel to Amaigbo to participate in activities because king jaja was originally from there, i guess you would call that strengthening of ties too. Our current king has been to imo state to participate with activities with other igbo kings i think a couple of times, but again in order for him to maintain peace with nearby communities it's best he doesnt appear to maintain a Pro-Igbo only agenda. Which I know sounds bad because Yoruba elders usually hold pro yoruba only agenda, and edo's usually meet on pro edo only basis but when anything "pro- igboid only" is planned people make it look like something bad is being planned.

I think the biggest issue in igboland is lack of a reasonable Ohaneze, that pan socio group is so useless, A serious pan igbo organization would be sponsoring yearly beauty pageants like Miss Igboid, or sporting events where only igbo clans and communities are allowed to participate with huge cash rewards for winners and participants. Our tribe took a reputation hit in nigeria and In order to undo the damage brought upon our tribe by kaduna nzeogu and his boys and the loss of the biafran war, any pan igbo group's first mission is to fight the stigma in most igboid communities that cause it's indigenes to say they're not igbos.

What makes you an igbo person is not whether or not your people fought for the biafran army or supported the biafran army during the war, The igbo's existed before Nigeria and before the biafran war. What makes your community an Igbo community is whether or not you can understand an igbo person on a basic level without translation. The similar traits in the language is akin to a DNA evidence that our fore fathers have left for us so we always know who our kinsmen are, and can track ourselves back to our root. They may not have left a library or a book, but they left a language as proof of who we are.

Here's a quick story, a friend of mine from imo state who has a business at creek road market in ph recently got married to an Idoma girl, most people were asking him why he is marrying a hausa woman and the guy being someone who is not articulate always responded with "Oh it's love, love found me". I went with him open minded for the traditional wedding in benue state and I was shocked, not just myself but most of us igbos who went from PH, we could (speaking for myself I could) understand at least 50 percent of everything being said at every point, So basically put I could get the point in every conversation without translation. I always thought of Benue state as hausa land and thought of Tuface idibia as hausa guy. And also whenever I heard about fulanis killing people in Benue State, I always thought when are the hausas going to stop killing their self. But then again if you're old enough to know tuface's first album with african queen in it, you probably heard since that fully idoma song and back then I was thinking why is this hausa guy singing an ikwerre song. Now I know.

I'm a workaholic and may not have enough time to input alot in this topic, but i'll try my best, but on a final note most opobo people are igbos at heart, we bear english and kalabari names (because of our history with kalabari), a few igbo first names but we speak crystal clear central igbo and unlike most other igbo clans we have a very clear documented history so we can't say we are from sudan or benin or fell from the sky otherwise anybody at point in time who wants to make a case can come back and point our history and it's case closed.

Thank you for taking out your time to break things down. You have given me a whole new perspective on things. You said a lot of things I will analyze especially when it comes to the relationship of non igbos living amongst your people and the dynamics of suppressing the pro igbo stance to maintain harmony. Thank you once again.

Lol. It certainly is not your concern but it has become your problem. Igbos do not seek your land, people or resources. They seek to control their land and develop it as they see fit. The don't need your advice. Keep it to yourself. The best you can do for them is to shut up. Hypocrite!

Thanks nwanna for writing clearly to the understanding of all. Your history is crystal clear; no one can change it. I'll try and visit Opobo when next I touch down. I agree with you on the creating of programmes that will bring Igbo and Igboid communities together. Ohaneze have failed in this regard. Our problem is actually lack of cultural leaders. What we have a politicians and political leaders. Igbo have been attacked more than any ethnic group and we need to stand up to our numerous enemies. Jisie ike!

Like I wrote earlier, it's non of your business whom we choose as a leader. Focus on your own leaders. As for leaving the South West, that one is no problem as we have our own lands. However, that will be after Biafra has been established. Do you feed the Igbos residing in your area at present? Do you give them free accommodation or transport? You hypocrite! You send the Igbos away by supporting the creation of Biafra after which you can do whatever you feel like to those who refuse to leave. I don't care about what becomes of your land or people after we've left.

I agree too. I am an igbo guy from opobo and I love and respect all my fellow people of the niger-delta tribes but in other for the world to take the agitation seriously and in other for it to materialize it should first be an only igboid issue for starters.

Afterwards only people of the Old Aro Confederation can be allowed in as we all have thesame forefathers. But for any of these tribes to be included there has to be a vote within the community and minimum 95% vote by all of the people within the community to join. Because for a country to be loved by it's people, the people within should first accept that they want to be part of that country, and that can only be done by voting - That is the civilised way of doing things.

I say this because the a lot of the other tribes of the niger-delta that are non igboic are either kind of for it or on the fense with biafra or against it or playing politics with it for their own agenda.

An Igboid Nation of over 55 million igboid speakers with a seaport at Opobo, oil in central and south igbo communities and overall igbo business working spirit (whether our other Aro brothers join or not) would be one that would be bound for greatness.

Core igboland has yet untapped oil, ikwerres/ogba's have oil right now that is being pumped at over 200,000 Barrels per day and nothing to show for it in ikwerre and ogbaland other than death and destruction.

Biafra should be an igboid affair for starters, after it's is achieved and working a lot of our "Aro Brothers" would definitely want in as they themselves can not tolerate/stand or survive in this forced nigerian contraption.

We deltans? there's no tribe called deltan, Why don't you state your tribe in Delta state and then speak for it. And yes, a couple of the tribes within Delta state were not part of Aro...And we know that you're not from the tribe that was part of it, so no one's talking about you, friend.
