Please what do you mean yusuftosin: I was at the embassy today for my interview, and a lady provided information about a scholarship she didn't get. Embassy couldn't go on with the interview.
She just wasted an AD slot |

Chriswazo: Let me paste this here:
Hello Guys! Visa Approved this morning at the US Consulate, Frankfurt. The consular officer allowed me to finish my sentences so I was really free to express myself.
VO: Passport and I-20 please Me: I did as I was asked.
VO: What are you going to do in the US Me: I am going for my Master’s degree in Ocean, Coastal and Earth Sciences at UTRGV
VO: How did you find out about this school? ME: I got to speak with one of the lecturing staff of the University and my intended department during a geoscience conference in Lagos, Nigeria in 2018. He told me the department was looking for graduates of Geology for the new phase of their research and when I shared my Geology background and interests with him, he told me I would be a good fit and that I should apply. So I did further research on the school via Princeton review, usnews and other search parameters and I was satisfied so I applied.
VO: Your bachelors is also in Geology? Me: Yes it is.
VO: You got your bachelors from Germany or Nigeria? Me: Nigeria please.
VO: When did you come to Germany? Me: April this year.
VO: What are you doing in Germany? Me: I am currently studying Sustainable Mining and Remediation Management at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
VO: Why don't you want to continue this programme in Germany? Me: I put in for the Sustainable Mining programme here so I could research on the remediation of wastewater and heavy metals from mines but apparently the mines in Germany have been closed including the University’s experimental teaching mine where I am supposed to conduct my research. So it is no longer feasible to continue the programme. I believe going to the US at this time is a good call for me.
VO: Who is paying for your programme? Me: Myself and my elder sibling
VO: What will you do with this degree? Me: My career focus has always been in academia so the acquired training from this degree will strategically place me to take on a lecturing position at my alma mater (the University of Benin) as a researcher of environmental hydrogeology and I do have a competitive advantage here due to my recent work experience as a research assistant in the Department of Geology and also because the department only has one professor of hydrogeology that is aging and close to retirement. He would be glad to mentor me once more like he did as my thesis supervisor.
VO: Sorry did you say you finished from Benin? Me: Yes, the University of Benin, Nigeria. Me: Sorry the Benin I mentioned is different from the country called Benin. Benin is a city in Nigeria as well. VO: Oh thanks for the correction. I actually thought you were referring to the country Benin. I'm sorry I'm not so familiar with places in Nigeria. (We both laughed). VO went ahead to tell me that it's just like that in the US. That Springfield is another confusing term that is up to 35 in the US. I quickly said "oh so you need to specify the particular Springfield you're going to in the US". To this, the VO said YES. We laughed again after she told me one of her Springfield experiences.
VO: Alright your visa is approved.... VO: You did a good job answering all my questions. Please answer the questions same way at the port of entry okay. I smiled and said I will.

Let God be praised! And a BIG THANKS to all Nairalander who have contributed with one question or the other, answered or responded with a meaning. They all had, and is still worth awhile, though, I hardly have time to read thoroughly. My journey to Deutschland started in August 2015, after my mother's visit and gave me the info. I made some contacts and started applications to Oldenburg for summer 2016 via UniAssist. Got UniAssist confirmation letter, but Oldenburg had shifted my summer application to winter decision with reasons only known to them. Also, I had applied for winter 2016 session in Bremen, with multiple applications when ever possible. But got all rejections for ALL applications in 2016, with the option of appeal for Bremen (even, I didn't use it). Though, I had challenge Oldenburg with series of email, demanding the reason for the late rejection after promising admission in summer for winter. Final response for all emails was a NO. Because, I didn't want to spend money for UniAssist anymore, I had to focus on applications without in 2017, still with multiple applications when ever possible. ALL applications again, was a rejection. Yet, I didn't up but to try again in 2018. ALL applications, yet returned negative. But this time I summoned courage to appeal for Bremen. Only to get an admission email on the 2nd of October, 2018. Rushed to booked visa appointment, but got 28th November AD. Informed Uni-Bremen, but the course coordinator refused on the ground that I can not meet up with start up programmes. I had requested for a deferment, but never granted. YOU WILL HAVE TO REAPPLY AGAIN NEXT YEAR. YOU ARE ALREADY AWARE OF THE APPLICATION PROCEDURE was the statement from the course coordination. Seeing that I gained admission, anyways, boast my hope. But thought, I can use the opportunity of the AD to an advantage for a German Student Applicant Visa. I applied in a language school and made all papers ready (with an SL). Got to the embassy, cleared in, and see me, see the V.O. The man just looked at my documents and smiled, cancelled one doc after the other, and said, "should you are to continue with the interview, you can only get a SHENGEN VISA and not a STUDENT VISA. But if you push for a Student Visa, you get a rejection. So my advice, withdraw your visa appointment, you need not pay any visa fee, but just cancel you appointment or you go for the SHENGEN".Thought critically, with the Shengen, man will have to resign his job, leave his family and go for enjoyment. And at his return, man will start counting ceiling and cracking brain on how to get a job. Thank you very much for your advice, was my next statement, and then retreated with ALL my documents and cash intact. At coming out, I had informed concerned family member, yet disappointment greeted me. But after much explanations, "OKAY, let's hope for next year", was the conclusions. Immediately, I started negotiating for the refund of cash for the German language payment. I finally got the refund on the 24th of May, 2019. Meanwhile, 2019 I had spread out my applications for 7 schools without spending for posting application documents (though, this was possible because, I happened to know someone travelling back to Germany, so I made 4-sets of certified credential, bind up, and deposited them with a family member) with multiple applications pal school when ever possible. ALL 6 schools rejected me (including the ones with multiple applications). Except for Uni Jena (though, I applied for 2 programmes, and was rejected for one). I applied on the 22.04.2019. Application deadline was 31.05.2019. Got admission mail on 17.06.2019. Booked appointment Cat A on the 18.06.2019. Got AD for 01.07.2019. Got AM on the 22.07.2019. Sent the needed docs on the 23.07.2019, and got my VISA with me on the 01.08.2019. It just has been God. Forgive me, if my writing is too much and my write may also not be correct, kindly manage it , only I feel, I could encourage at least one person in the house. Many thanks Pecky, she has being of great assistance since 17.06.2019. I pray for her (she knows why). And I pray for everyone yet expecting, the God that has done my own will do yours in Jesus name (this was my pastors prayer on Sunday, 21st July 2019 and he asked us to mention our expectations to someone, I did mentioned it to two people who already known my plan ( dem no dey tell people say u wan go Italy ooo ). The Name of the school is ISFOP-Benin University located in Benin Republic . I graduated with a CGPA of 3.64 in Microbiology. Before you apply to any school, ensure you mail the course coordinator ahead to clarify the school's state on the accreditation status of the University you graduated from. We all know Houdegbe graduates have had their Applications rejected due to this accreditation stuff. So, spread your tentacles very wide and send lots of emails. They are kind enough to reply. As an alternative plan, you can enrol for 100L in Nigeria, complete the session, get your Transcript and apply for a BSc in Germany. |
