I have been active (reading lol)on the sister thread but was pregnant then, it was a means to pass time then, and I told myself I will definitely give back when I have put to bed and landed too.

So below is my landing gist.

Airport waka: before leaving for the airport I have packed our bags and weighed them with the hand held scale ( it isn’t accurate so always weigh your bags to be below the 23kg) I did but when we got to the airport our bags were weighing 27kg,
26kg etc somehow the guy at the counter over looked it. Maybe because of my crying baby, I don’t know but the total number of bags that we were entitled to as a family wasn’t complete so maybe he did the total number of kg for our family. Anyway we got to the airport 3hours before departure so we had enough time to drop off our bags at the counter since we checked ourselves in already from home. We went outside to spend one hour with our family before going in to wait for departure time. N:B come to the airport early so you don’t rush things and get confused.

We waited for a couple of mins and pre boarding started, we weren’t much on the queue, it was a 12am flight so the airport was quite and I loved it. We boarded our Turkish airline to Istanbul the flight was small.

Flight: The food was not good for me I have never liked any airline cuisine though. Turkish is known for good food but anything that isn’t Nija food is not a good one for me lol. The inflight entertainment was good. Their air hostesses were kind and good, my baby slept all through but the bassinet was just on top of my husbands leg which wasn’t good he kept on complaining.

Layover: when we got to Istanbul, my stroller was waiting for me at the gate. Turkish Airline services were great. Istanbul is a big airport and the largest I have ever seen. Very beautiful and a lot of shopping area. Your layover time will pass so fast because you have a lot to do.

Flight to Toronto: this time it was a bigger plane, the bassinet was way up high and my husband was comfortable. The inflight entertainment was great. The food was ok for people that enjoy inflight food. The flight was smooth.

YYZ airport: we landed by 8pm, it was still very bright like 3pm. The airport was so busy with a lot of people, we saw that everyone was rushing towards the same direction, we followed the arrival sign and low and behold all those people rushing were all forming a line to pass immigration, at this point I was so tired because we have been on this trip for over 20hrs with an 8hrs layover(our flight was delayed at Istanbul) finally we joined the line and my baby started crying. Baby was also exhausted, it took like an hour to get to our turn, the lady asked us for the list for accompanying goods and goods to follow we handed over our typed document, she was so happy and told us that we just made her job easy attached it and sent us off to the immigration section to get our Copr signed. We met a little line there and it was signed and we went over to pick our luggage. When we got there it was the only bag left there. We just picked it and went to customs to check our bags, at this point we were so tired and it was 11.30pm, we met yet another line and the custom people were opening their bags and searching. I wanted to start crying at this point because we had four big bags and I was like when are we going to get home if this people open these bags, my baby at this point was so irritated she hasn’t had a bath apart from the sponge down bath I gave her at Istanbul. She was just crying over and over, when it got to our turn the lady just looked at us and said are you with milk, or any goods not allowed in Canada, we chorused No. she said welcome to Canada. I gave her a tired fake smile and we walked out to go look for my husband’s friend that came to pick us up. By now it was 12.15am. We tried calling him through WhatsApp and he couldn’t hear us. I almost started crying, my husband kept trying coz he already spoke to him when we landed and we knew he was around. After about 15mins someone tapped my husband from behind and it was him we hugged and packed our luggage into his car and he drove us to our Airbnb. Luckily for us we got the one we could check ourselves in. It was a lovely place with the entire backyard to us. Very private and quite. I couldn’t wait to hit the bed and we slept till 11am the next morning.

Next day after landing: My husbands cousin picked us and took us to get our Sin and we also opened our bank account same day. It was a straight forward process.

So far so good Canada is a beautiful place. I have done my G1 driving license, will be going for G soon.

It is good to have someone on ground to help you out.

Please for our landed seniors in the house I want to go back to school and do nursing. Any Rn in the house to guide me or any Lpn. I need suggestions for schools in Brampton, Bramalea or Mississauga. Thanks

Nice one!
Please kindly throw more light, I just saw where you wrote that you were asked if you have milk and you said no. Does that mean both liquid and powered milk isn’t allowed?
I am asking because my friend told me t come along with my powered peak milk because it’s very expensive over their.
Thanks

Milk is not allowed into Canada, you can also go to the CIC website and see other things that are not allowed. Safe trip.

Thanks Hotstepper, yes I have seen Shedrian college. Then for UFT in Mississauga they don’t offer nursing program. I was hoping there are other schools that I am missing that offer Bs.N in Brampton. Thanks so much. Are you a Registered Nurse?

Hi, so you can order from AliExpress to Canada? hope its 'almost free' like in Naija - or do you have to pay plenty tax?

You don’t get to pay taxes since the sellers aren’t in Canada

But you would most likely be required to pay import duty.

Hi guys, someone mentioned sometime ago about an online store you could get very discounted winter jackets during the summer months. I would be very grateful if someone could respond to me with the link. I've been searching the threads since and cant seem to find it.
This depends on your location. Currently, Mountain Warehouse in Edmonton are having clearance sales.

I'm not sure which website you have in mind but this strategy is quite common for clothing stores. Summer clothes are typically on sale in the winter and winter cloths on sale in summer. They get rid of inventory faster this way.

Just check any fashion/clothing website and go to their sales section. Or just search for "Jacket" on their website and filter by price.
June/July are the best months for this but you aren't late.

I don't remember which website it was but I just saw a really good ~$200 winter jacket going for maybe $20 - $50.. can't remember the exact figure. Just search around, I'm sure you'll find something.

Good luck!

On the milk matter.

I did take milk for my toddler AND declared it. The CBP officer actually said that although milk is prohibited, they understand that children can take time to adjust so they (CBP officers) can (at their discretion) sometimes allow some quantity of milk especially for young children.

Pardon me to ask this question - is it that they don't drink milk in Canada, or what? grin

I think there's some luck or a spending limit involved here. No import tax on the purchase I made.

If you are still in Nigeria enter market and buy travel adapter. Also buy compliant chargers and computer power packs (aka charger or cord)

In any case one regular Nigerian extension and one or two travel adapters should serve a family. Connect all your things to extension then plug to wall using adapter.
