THE STORY

Dele has been unemployed for three years after service. He finally got a job and was told to appear for a simple, short screening and he must be at the place by 9am. The salary was 30000 naira.

That day, Dele woke up around 3am and by 6am, he was through. The venue to his residence was just about 30 minutes. He boarded an okada. On the way, around 7am, he saw a car hit a little girl and the driver ran away. Dele jumped off the okada and managed to get the girl to a hospital.

By the time the hospital could assure him that the girl would be alright, it was 10:30 am. He lost the job. He saved the girl’s life but lost the job.

A month later, he got another job offer. He was to report to the venue by 10 am. Salary was 50,000 naira. That same morning, around 6:30 am, he witnessed a robbery. The owner of a car was shot and his car stolen. Dele got the man to a hospital. Time flew by and he lost the job also.

Lastly, a few months later, he got another job offer. Screening time was 9 am. Salary was 100,000 naira. His friends and family were ready for him. Some even threatened to kill him if he stopped on the way to help anyone.

Around 7 am, he saw a mentally challenged woman trying to cross a less busy road with a heavy load on her head. A speeding car hit her and she was left on the road. Dele got her to the hospital and also lost the job. He could not return home for fear of the ridicule and abuses he would face.

In the hospital, the woman’s next of kin was found. He was a very rich man who had been searching for his wife for a long time. He was very grateful to Dele and offered him a job as his manager in one of his companies overseas.

That was how Dele became a ‘big’ man. His salary was more than 300,000 naira.

LESSON

Money is not everything in this world. We should endeavor to do good to others. You will notice that Dele lost two jobs because he saved two people.

He got nothing from helping them. What if he hadn’t helped the third victim? What if he had gotten angry at the unfair treatment or consequences he got from helping the first two people?

When we are being kind, we should not do it because we want to get something from it. Let it come from your mind.

So if you have a car and pick up people and they steal things from you, don’t stop helping people because of that.

Finally, remember that what you do for others, you do for God. Even if we get hurt helping other people, we should not stop being kind as a result. There is a reward for that.
