There is a gsd in my compound. She barks at every moving thing rat, paper, birds, goat just anything she sees moving. Sometimes I come out in the middle of the night to pet her. Just last week I decided to always keep her in the toilet till the following morning till she learn not to bark aimlessly. on the 5th day I kept her in the toilet, some thieves broke into my neighbour's poultry and stole her Turkey and broilers.even while in the toilet she even barked cos she heard foot step but I neglected her barking. Now I respent every of her backing. Her name is BEAUTY.
locking the dog up won't solve the problem a German Shepherd is a working dog give the dog some work to do.

Also the dog jumps on my body a lot and tries to bite. This is my first dog. Don't really know how to react. Don't want to be mistakenly bitten. Lol

Lol the dog doesn't have teeth that can harm you yet. Nice pup. If you have some extra cash around you can get a GSD. Doesn't have to be pedigree but a very decent one. Trust me you'll appreciate the barking because people won't even near your home talkless of trying to break in.. I have two GSDs and ever since I got them I've not had any issue with thieves. We got robbed twice before we got them. A female first and a male about a year later.. Female rarely barks. But once she sights a stranger she'll start.. Male barks a lot even at the slightest knock on the gate. You'll also be able to decipher with time when there's real danger the two dogs will start barking at the same time.. Most of the time when the male makes just a bark or two we just ignore till it becomes frequent or the female joins because she's more mature.. Enjoy your new pup

You may read up on raw feeding plans and make your judgement. Its a viable healthy alternative.

Its a puppy and it must play. However remember that Caucs are a large breed so if this behavior is not nipped early the dog can knock you off or your kids later. One way to stop this is by disapproval. When we reward the jumps with rub downs they become more exited and so continue. So show disapproval by turning your back to the dog and saying no....starve the behavior of reward and attention. Then when it sits with eyes on you reward with a treat and rub down. It will now recognize this is acceptable behaviour.

On the nibbling pups who leave before 12...16 weeks to a new home might have lost the opportunity to learn an important lesson...it hurts. This behavior becomes controlled when they get nibbled by siblings and parent while growing up before going to a new home as they know it hurts. Again what do you do? Train to stop behavior by doing the treat trick whenever its next known behaviour is to nibble...say no but reward it when it stops and stays in sitting position with eyes on you to realise that's expected behaviour.

We hope this helps.

OP you really need to consider what this person is saying here, he’s right you need a GSD for a complete job in your compound doesn’t have to be pedigree just a good one

why are you people still suggesting gsd tho?
do you mean Caucasians cannot bark or guard a house too?

It was a suggestion sir. I don't see any wrong in that.. Also I said if he has any extra cash around or if he's going for another dog. I'm not taking anything away from Caucasians. I admire them also. If I'm going for another dog I'm going for a bigger breed maybe a bull mastiff, Boerboel or Caucasian

Also OP I advice all members of your family get socialized with the dog especially if there's anyone who doesn't like dogs. My reason for saying this is so that when the dog is grown he will consider them his alphas also. I know of someone who his family can't enter the house without him because he has this crazy rottweiler that only listens to him..

Feeding:
Usually a mix of can food, dry food and indomie

Vitamins daily

From this week will start

cod liver oil daily
More of meat and fish. The protein content of all these dry/can food is actually quite small.

Indomie makes the poo really watery and hard to clean so I don't think it's good for the dog. Unfortunately I bought a whole bag of it for 8.5k

Anybody who will want the bag for a discounted price can come and pick it up. Location, Rumuigbo Port Harcourt

Thanks for the tips. You've really been supportive.
I'll encourage anyone I know who wants to get a gsd to patronize you.
You will definitely show a lot of concern and attention to your clients

ranger looks good
looks like he's going to be big when he's an adult grin
start socialising with him now that he's a puppy.
you said you leave early and come back late, make sure you play with the dog the few times you have to spend with him because when he's mature, he might chase you away from your house one night.
dogs don't know who provides the money for food, they only know who feeds and trains them wink
try and create a bond with the dog now he's still a playful puppy and let your family do the same, as he's getting bigger he'll start trying to cross boundaries and if they show that they fear him he might start trying to be dominant in the house.
make sure everyone bonds with the dog, even if they don't like him at least let him know them well, don't keep him chained or locked up now let him be free around the family so he can study and sniff you guys well enough.
good luck

Thank you for your kind words. We actually do have a litter around the corner but they have been booked. Over booked in fact. Cash backing even. grin

Now back to ranger. I can see the development is in the right direction. I do get your busy schedule and would recommend if its possible to engage a trainer. A trainer that will come around your place to train and also have your family participate so everyone takes responsibility. I don't know if any one mentioned this but Caucs are strong willed and so need the right firmness, attention and love in the right balance of the mix. They are also Shepherds so will look out for the herd/pack.

We have never been convinced about indomie waste apart from it being a filler. We do also note the economic considerations especially if one is not a breeder and therefore plan with a balancing budget on feeding plans.

We wish you all the best with Ranger.

I hope he gets big too. That's the reason I got him.
I spend time with home every night I come back.
I try to feed him by myself at least once daily.
Hopefully the family will join in.
I walk with him around the compound, make him run around too.

You're welcome
I need to start training but I'm a little low on funds to pay the trainer. He's asking for 30k monthly but things are really tight for me this period.
If I had the time it's something I would have watched videos and done by myself.
Yea, I'm actually done with indomie.
I know so many people do it but I don't believe it's healthy.
And all these foetus, restaurant waste etc I really don't have time for it.
Can I feed the dog on just dry food mixed with eggs,Titus fish, can food, ONLY? No unnecessary going to market looking for scraps and unnecessary combinations?

Is there a special cod liver oil for dogs or can I give it this?
