The army is telling us half-truths! embarassed
The COAS should be held responsible by the president for the conduct of his troops and he sure know who to hold responsible so as to bring in a swift result. Else, his head should roll for others to learn from.

If I may have to counter your explanation a little bit, yes under cover corps do not necessarily need to wear uniform, I agree with you, but in a dicy security challenge that the country is undergoing, where every potential human being is a criminal, you have to identify yourself, the army from their own point of view stopped them on three different occasions, but they refuse to obey, rather they choose to open fire back @ them, tell me, is this how a trained undercover police office is meant to act?
I may not be in the best position to explained what actually transpire..it a very unfortunate incident.. but why did cuffed suspect escape unhurt..

The president must get involved in this by giving the COAS a matching order to capture the Hamisu guy alive within Seven days or face harsh disciplinary measure.

I smell a huge conspiracy here to free the alleged kidnapper by all means necessary.

Do you have a president?
Yes, I do.

The police men on a covert mission never opened fire on the military, I can bet on that with my left scrotum.
Then, the suspect escaped; WONDERFUL!!!

When did you stop thinking all kidnappings is carried out by Fulani herdsmen....... Yeye

But most of those kidnappers are often seen on camos...probably the police felt something was wrong, or just simply didn’t want to take chances

Just a quick one, as an undercover police officer or military police, you are still expected to identify yourself if need be, but I have seen an undercover police officer without any trace of identification, but just with a gun, to understand better what I am saying, ask most of the sars officials, for identification, most do not have any.

Maniagist1:
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday offered explanation for the killing of three policemen on covert duties in Taraba State by its personnel.

The explanation was offered in a statement by the spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank Mba, had earlier in the day said three operatives in the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, headed by DCP Abba Kyari, were killed by the soldiers in Taraba State despite identifying themselves as being on covert operation to arrest one Alhaji Hamisu, a suspected kidnapper.
Hamisu was said to have been involved in several crimes, collecting N100 million as ransom during one of such operations.

However, Mba said as Hamisu was being driven to the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo, they were engaged in fierce shooting by soldiers, resulting in the death of three policemen, a civilian and the escape of the suspect.

But Musa countered Mba, saying the IRT operatives refused to stop at three military checkpoints and then engaged the soldiers in a shootout.

He said some villagers had raised the alarm that the operatives were in an unmarked bus and refused to stop at the checkpoints, which resulted in the soldiers giving them a hot chase.

On the unfortunate incident that occurred on the 6th of August 2019 in which troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum pursued and exchanged fire with some suspected Kidnappers who indeed turned out to be an Intelligence Response Team from the Police Force Headquarters Abuja on a covert assignment from Abuja resulting in the death and injury of some members of the Team.

On the 6th of August 2019, the said Nigerian Army troops, while responding to a distress call to rescue a kidnapped victim exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State.

The suspected kidnappers numbering about ten (10) and driving in a white bus with Reg No LAGOS MUS 564 EU refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points.

The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops.

It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadically thus prompting them to return fire.

In the resultant fire fight, four (4) suspects were shot and died on the spot while four (4) others sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and 2 others reportedly missing.

It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed Policemen dispatched from Nigerian Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja for a covert assignment.

Good for the NPF. If this explanation by the Army spokesman is true then the police officers were obviously at fault. How will police officers dress like kidnappers and be operating with private vehicles and still refused to stop at checkpoint. Who una be?This is sweet karma dealing with them. That is how we all complained about SARS operatives dressing like touts and kidnappers and operating with unmarked vehicles harassing people on the streets yet the police leadership did nothing about this.

Yes, I stand with the Nigerian Army on this one. They were treated squarely as kidnap suspects for their refusal to stop at the army check points, three for that matter. And moreover, the dead policemen and those alive were not on uniform, mounting the suspects talk to high levels.
It is well with my country Nigeria.

Yet 3 well armed police men were shot dead.
How fast can a handcuffed man run please?
The joke is on the army officers. Dumb ass, silly and unprofessional jokers. Smh
