Technological societies aren't always utopian. I'd even argue that there is a great tendency for an advanced technological society to become dystopian. There have been many well acclaimed dystopian books about futuristic societies with advanced technology. A very popular one that everyone knows due to it's adaptation into a movie is Divergent by Veronica Roth. Aldous huxley's Brave New world is another one.

Technological advancement might seem like an upgrade, but it could easily lead to unforseen catastrophies.

Another one of such "dystopian" book/movie is In Time, featuring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.

Just like when people put on jeans and then wear sandals on their feet is considered a gay dress culture in the USA but here it is a fashion trend and not seen as gay.
