People also watch tv shows to learn/stimulate their mental faculty. Shows like Westworld, Dark, Legion and Sharp Objects are primarily engineered to force one to focus their thought processes towards one goal. Their plot lines are arranged in non-linear fashion in that you'd have to be on your toes to piece together the jumbled pieces. They're like a jigsaw puzzle. Basically, these tv shows encourage one to concentrate. They are cognition stimulants.
